PS: I just noticed, when sliding from the 15 to 14, you should add an 11 on the B string for the dissonance. But not too much, the 14 on the G string is the predominant sound.

This is def your bread and butter clearly but I think that high b note actually makes the riff, I hear a very fast slide down from the G15 to the 14 and then he ties in that high b string immediately to really give that tension sound. And that’s the heart of that little hook I feel. Maybe it’s just me tho! :) well done sir
@@xXpapercutsXx Yep, that's exactly how I play it now. Play G15 and B11 and then slide down to G14 but keep the B11 :)
I love your epi's color! I have the tangerine burst gibson lp studio but an thinking about those new prophecy lps from Epiphone. Specifically the Olive, cause it resembles a silver burst send has those fluence pups! Super dope guitars!

@@LucasGonzalez-du9qd very true...as a guitar player...some of the first songs I learned to play along with were Hush, cold and ugly, Jerk off, then harder stuff (to learn/memorize) undertow, crawl away, H, eon blu apocalypse-the patient, Lateralus, Wings for Marie 1&2, vicarious, jambi(on a good day)...just getting that pull thru technique to sound like Adam makes it sound....and after learning all that tool, playing ANYTHING original in drop D, is reeealy hard, to make it sound original, and not like a cheap tool rip off...so much so I really only go to drop d for tool covers....so many other tunings to still sound, "original," In
I think Max and Cameron should both be gifted an Adam Jones Signature model. I can’t think of two individuals on this platform who are more deserving of that guitar. Thank you Cameron and Max for all that you do. Two absolute legends

This is probably the closest we'll get to having an Adam Jones solo album. And it's GLORIOUS
When I had a kemper I stumbled upon some awesome Hagen profiles and thats all I ended up using. I finally managed to get a Hagen last week, its crazy how close the kemper is. My favorite amp ever, ive had VH4 and everything else.. Amazing work

Edit: I don't think you need his guitar. You're your own musician and have your own take on his sound with what you have. And you do a hell of a great job at it

Nicely done. Used this to noodle around with the riff in my own way. Chose to move that open harmonic on the high D at the beginning of the opening phrase to the 10th fret on the B string. Not quite the same tonality, but a little easier to execute.
I figured out the main riff soon after hearing it, but I played the first dissonant part with two strings, 15 on D and 12 on G, nice dissonance, and the next part with three strings ringing, 12 on D, 11 on G and 14 on G. Everything rings out nicely with my rig. Anyways, I was waiting for you to cover this little track, which I absolutely love and keeps me hoping for another album. Awesome cover and interpretation. Much love

@@MaxNiessl Anything from Tool is awesome and an instrumental album would really make up for 2020 so far. While I really enjoy instrumental tool there is nothing wrong with some light maynard imo. I thought about something like disposition when I first heart it. But who am I to judge, everything Tool gives to us is god sent. :b

Hi Max, hope you read this! Big fan of your content and Adam as well :)
If I can express an opinion on this cover, I saw a thing that doesn't work: the A with A# that create that wonderful cluster in The Witness should be played TOGETHER, I think.
Because Adam is pretty used to do so (7empest, Aenima, and many other song), I think in The Witness he plays A on the 4th string (the d string) and A# on the 3d string (the G string). With this set up you achieve the cluster better than the A bending that you do in the cover :)

1. When cover songs, do you leave the original track as it is or do you EQ it or something else to make the original guitar quiet?
2. Your guitar pick preference?
3. Do you listen to Porcupine Tree/Steven Wilson? (there doesn't seem to be lessons or covers with play-along tabs)
1. Yes, I quiet down the original track a bit and pump up my guitar track. But no effort to cancel out the original guitar since I'm playing the same notes.
2. I'm using either Fender Heavy White or Dunlop Jazz III (red ones).
3. I love both to bits, definitely considering doing some :)
I agree with @Allessandro Morastica. If we are here, we play guitar and we understand that Adam Jones does not write/play 4/4 basic riffs. You have a time-pocket or something, where time passes by slowly and you spent weeks in there to figure this one out. This is my explanation and I will stick to it. Other than that, thanks a lot!
