I don’t think you can overestimate the value of continuity and experience: Cross and Blackman could be outstanding with experience together. It’s almost like the wife who says; “I don’t have a THINV to wear, when she’s got a closet full of clothes. I’m thinking Cross is going to come through.
I wish I shared your optimism, at least about Cross. As shorthanded as the Colts seem, if some other team offered a future 5th round / conditional 4th (depending on play), I would jump at the offer. Maybe even a 6th / 5th. In short, I feel ready to give up on Cross.
I’m happy with how things played out in the draft. How often do you pick at 15 and get a top tier pass rusher. The league qb pool is very young and I’d rather see our defense disrupt rather than give them a clean pocket and put it all the pressure on a rookie DB to lock every game down. We can go db next year and we’ll have a better outcome this year
Nice job! However, I think the sneaky play at FS is Daniel Scott who was drafted last year out of Cal. I also agree that Abraham reminds me of Rodgers, who I regret releasing. I thought Ballard should've sat on him last year and let him come back after the suspension.
The problem with this secondary is going to be their lack of speed. They’re playing WRs that are on a whole other level compared to last season & are going to get torched.
We don't play man coverage, though. Speed is super important in man coverage, but it's not so important in zone. More important is positioning, awareness, and breaking on the ball. In addition, playing well in the red zone is key, and we had too many breakdowns in the red zone last year. The main idea behind our defensive philosophy is going to be quick, consistent pressure, which should make it much easier for the corners to cover and break on the ball.
Ballard has been very willing to sign veteran DB’s in past years, from Rhodes to Mccloud to Gilmore, I definitely think we see at least one veteran DB signing
I'm okay if the Colts stick to their guys. Would prefer if they'd pick up an Ahkello Witherspoon and Quandre Diggs, for example, to bolster secondary depth and strength.
What could the Colts get (maybe a 5th round pick in next year’s draft) for Nick Cross from a team like Dallas, Buffalo or even Miami if a backup player got hurt early in training camp? I think it’s time to give up on Cross. I would not cut him or trade him for a future straight up 6th round pick (it would need to be better than a 6th), but anything else sounds interesting. There must be a ton of players out there who are not meeting expectations for whatever reason. Maybe we could trade Cross for such a player?
Hope damaging to the colts receiving game is only practising against our secondary ever day? Must be such a jump in competition etc when they play against top prospects and proven starters in the league compared to what they are used to internally
I'm so tired of these incessant gambling ads in all these sports vids. How about we start plugging cigarette ads while we're at it? Or maybe guns and ammo?

Best case scenario is Cross emerging this year. Indy needs it badly
