Carol asks the audience for questions....she invites someone to the stage who offers compliments, gifts, etc. There is no hesitation for a handshake, kiss on the cheek, a huge smile....so beautiful. Today we do not touch one another. I so miss those days....
Today's so called stars have so many bodyguards that you never touch them. They even hired their own publicists who constantly publicise every every movements. They sell their marriage or pregnancy photos taking huge amount of money. They are not real any more like the yesteryear's stars.
This show continues to amaze me. You expect professionals to sing or dance beautifully when they're performing their favorite routines or well known favorites, but I am astounded at how perfectly they also pull of completely new, original material, like this show's Three Little Pigs send-up. I don't know how much time they have to rehearse, but it can't be easy to sing never before heard songs with such accuracy & confidence, as the ladies do here (& Harvey, of course). That whole scene was hilarious, especially when they sometimes drop the classy trappings & deadpan a punchline with a more common delivery. What a great episode!
Amazing. The Three Little Pigs Opera with world-class performers as free light entertainment. It was beautiful, charming, and funny. Hurray for Carol Burnett!
This episode was enhanced by two of the greatest opera singers of all time, Eileen Farrell and Marilyn Horne, both of whom lent their golden voices to solo numbers, two ribtickling sketches and a lovely medley of sacred Christmas carols!
i believe that was Isabell Sanford playing the Maid in one sketch, and sitting with the others at the end to song Christmas Carols. she went on to play Louise Jefferson in the TV series The Jeffersons in the 1970's. The Three Pigs opera had me on the floor laughing.
Can't believe they got these fabulous Opera singer's to play pig's... unbelievable Harvey and Carol doing operetta just show's that actors act and do a good job at it lol
41:51 These dresses remind me of the 2006 Barbie Holiday doll's black and silver dress with a feathers on the neck, also designed by Bob Mackie. Love it!
Yes truly, he was devastatingly handsome man. He had very good comic timing too. In more than one sketches he didn't laugh while others were rolling in laughter.
I don't remember seeing this episode, but I do remember another episode when carol invited Marylin Horn and Eileen again and all three were satirizing the Andrew sisters or was it Marilyn Horne and Beverly Sills? enjoyed!
It was Marilyn Horne and Eileen Farrell again. Beverly Sills was not on The Carol Burnett Show except she was introduced by Carol when she was in the audience along with her husband. Carol tells the audience with great excitement that she and Beverly Sills were going to film a special called Sills And Burnett At The Met which was broadcast in 1976 or 1977. By the way, it is available on UA-cam in a very poor copy...
@@randysills4418 I guess my memories is not clear ,but, by 77 we had a color t.v. was seeing the last of the carol Burnett's show in color from 74 and up. I could have sworn I remember seeing the three satirizing the Andrew sisters in b and w.
I hate Isabel Sanford script on that skit smh she should’ve turn it down cuz it was a stereotypical of how they perceive us .Marylyn Horn wow her voice is PERFECT
This is how Ms Sanford broke into TV... demeaning, I agree...but, in the end everyone knew her name and talent. Just show's, sometimes you must do one thing to achieve the goal before you.
cricket123: That’s a friggin’ rude comment to make. Both Eileen Farrell and Marilyn Horne were never stick figures but the classical musical field, at that time emphasized voices over ‘phisque du role’ and I don’t think it has helped. Eileen Farrell and Marilyn Horne had FABULOUS voices beautiful voices. At the time of her MET Opera debut in 1960 she was the most prominent dramatic soprano in the US. She had a voice that encompassed not only the major class composers but lighter music. She was easily compared to Kirsten Flagstad and Ella Fitzgerald in her range; no mean treat. Marilyn Horne would be a contributing and active member of the MET Opera for over 25 years after making her debut in a new production of NORMA and to the reintroduction of neglected works, especially Rossini and Meyerbeer. She is still active running the Vocal Academy of California at Santa Barbara and with her personal income founded a foundation to advance song recitals. It was enjoyable to watch this program and sad to see/hear the musical decline of music in elementary schools and in homes today. We are much less for the loss. PS: Horne debuted at the MET with another great lady who had a phenomenal voice and good sense of humor, John Sutherland. PPS: The reference that Lyle Wagner made at the beginning of the skit was in reference to Milton Cross, longtime radio commentator of the Saturday MET Opera broadcasts. The reference to the young conductor included the name “Bernstein”. There should be no need to explain that name in America!

Seems to me like everyone hugs each other nowadays, stranger or not.
Carol's shows were always first class all the way. She didn't cut corners but gave her audience the full outstanding talents of everyone involved.
Oh could we use some of Carol right now!!
AGREED!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Amen

The ladies were such good sports to be in this skit. Beautiful voices.
That’s when people could laugh at themselves. Now everyone is offended.
The love the cast showed each other at the end of this episode was so sweet, particularly Carol and Harvey.
There is nobody like Carol Burnett! ❤ I was going to one of her "concerts" in 2020 until the pandemic hit!

I can't get enough of "The 3 Little Pigs" skit! It is so cute!
That's probably the smartest, funniest thing I've ever seen from Bob Hope... . while never saying a word. Brilliant!
My favorite show of all time .Carol always wore some of the most beautiful dress !!!😇

All designed by Bob Mackie.
Wonderful version of the 3 little pigs. I bet they had fun
Best show ever.
Absolutely!!!!!!!💕
Very much so!
This what we need right now, Peace, Love, and Hope For the New Year.
Praise the Lord!!! We love you Carol...❤
I'm not into that kind of singing, but I enjoyed the Three Pigs. It was light-hearted and creative. "Avon who?". "Avon to come in and eat you."

It’s nice to know that Carol Burnett supported the troops in Vietnam

I was so excited to enjoy the beautiful celebration of the true meaning of Christmas at the show's conclusion!
Can't believe they got these fabulous Opera singer's to play pig's... unbelievable
Harvey and Carol doing operetta just show's that actors act and do a good job at it lol
Carol also did some collaborative work with Beverly Sills at the Met.
Carol Is simply the best and most talented comedienne.

That card was very nice
I wonder what happened to it!?
Wow, I didn't know Vicki went to Vietnam. Makes me love her all the more.
At 37:45 the three little pig skit there is a guy stand at the bck of the pig house .I have always loved this show
At 37:39
I could listen to Eileen sing the first song all day. I especially loved the ending score of the Three Pigs. It's as masterful as it is comical.
I always loved her gowns
Bob Mackie!
Nice 👏
Delightful!! Thank you!!
Well, Lyle Waggoner is handsome! Love this show.

Cool
That made me weepy a little, thank you

Now that's entertainment. The unbridled joy before all wok destroyed it.

Ms. Isabel Sanford's "The Jeffersons", like the Burnett show, was one of those rare TV shows that ran for more than ten years on CBS. 😀👍

I didn't even know that Oprah liked Opera...
@@AmyLSacks: Why the crack about Oprah liking opera? What prompted that intended slight against her?
