Entering arm bar setups from various positions is one thing, but securing and finishing them is is a different thing altogether. In this video, I get across as much as I can, without taking a super long time, on how arm bars work. We look at anatomical considerations, breaking mechanics and dismantling common defensive measures. This is a fairly robust one that hopefully answers a lot of questions.

In the arm bar from guard, when he is over reaching (or any other condition), how do you prevent the opponent from pulling the arm you are attacking away?
Timing more than anything. He is choosing to overcommit, so the arm bar happens from just taking advantage of that. Like so many other things, keeping him committed to the mistake he is making creates the opportunity.
