this stuff got me thru the 80's......nothing has ever come close.....emotions flood in like no other music could conjur....LSD or straight sober...this is the stuff
I bought this album as soon as it came out, and this was my favourite song. Last track on side 2. Still love it now. At the time I was doing O Levels, and my English teacher gave me a book to read called Brighton Rock by Graham Greene. Kolly Kibber was the journalist who is killed by Pinkie Brown in chapter one.
Brooding, black fire of a melody - The Cope approaching rock but giving it the pop finger at the same time. Brilliant song from a lost album of brilliance.
One Of The Greatest Albums In The World Of All Time. Crazy Album Reviews, Put Downs, That Can Only Equal Jealousy. Julian Cope Is A Music Legend. Jealousy Won't Change That At All.
I need to listen to Julian Cope more today then any other as my head takes me to places I wish were more happy,by focusing on the lyrics of Julian's songs nothing seems so very bad that I'll get through the datkness and into the light always.
I can't decide what I love most. The 16 beats to the bar drum machine. Rhyming Liverpool with junior school. Or the two note gutar solo. No it's the completely opaque Graeme Greene reference.
+InParticularNobody Look i'm British, but not Welsh or English, like Cope. Just proud to from the islands this album is from. Sincerely, The Laughing Boy : D
Like JC, I was born in 1957. Graham Greene's Brighton Rock may well have carried a particular significance for people of our age as it was the chosen reading for the English Lit exam the year we did our 'O' Levels
For some strange reason, I always associate the lyrics of this song with Leto II, The God Emperor from Frank Herbert's novel...Heck alone knows why, though it's probably to do with the line 'my heart's chemical incendiaries' along with the song's esoteric motivations. Herbert himself was something of a righteous visionary in many ways, so perhaps Julian would approve? In any case super-spectacular track, deffo one of my faves from the early period.
Well, as a 53 year old, I've got to say that this was one of the key albums of my youth. Love it! His best album? Who knows? My personal favourites are this and "Wilder" (Teardrops). Cope's music can never do anything other than make me feel better.
This is a very clever Track from Julian as it's set against the backdrop of a very fast BPM but he manages to counter that beat with his guitar playing. He's a one off Musical genius. Julian is unique Big fan for years and met him twice. Lovely Man eccentric as in real life and very cool guy . Love Julian
I think I remember reading that this was an influence for Oasis' massively overrated - and vastly inferior - 'Wonderwall'. I'm sure Cope wouldn't of wrote it had he of known that was going to be the case!
Theres a mention of a song by Noel Gallaghers on his early tapes that sounds much like this. anyway, i can't see any Wonderwall resemblance, but it does reminds me a bit of Headshrinker
Julian is one of the 80s greats.
One of my two favourite albums of all time, I’ve always been Kolly Kibber ✌️
World shut your mouth and Fried, both classic albums.
post-teardrops psychedelia; a frantic drum machine, a casiotone organ and cope's nonsensically deep wordplay. perfection.
i owe debt to my brother for introducing me to Julian Cope.......love you bro xxxx

Too good for top of the pops.

My first and favourite Julian Cope Album.
One of Cope's best tracks, without a doubt.

@@transmitterdown1670 Pah! What does he know!? ; )

@@modmadom7592 don't forget 'Fried'.
Agreed. A very fine album
Well put
got to be one of the best if not the best album of the 80s
THANKYOU!! This is an elusive little bugger and my favourite Cope song. Bloody brilliant.
Julian Cope is brilliant. He cheers depressives like myself right up. He's as quirky as he's aggressive. I can't get enough of his stuff tbh.
I need to listen to Julian Cope more today then any other as my head takes me to places I wish were more happy,by focusing on the lyrics of Julian's songs nothing seems so very bad that I'll get through the datkness and into the light always.
Just a genius. Only in this country could we have Julian Cope. The most prolific of planets.
unbelievabily beautiful, Julian has this way with the melancholic/optimistic mood
...just plain astonishing...
A Tower of a song, lyrical brilliance.
The greatness and perfection of love also stands out ad a very impressive song for its lyrics and vocal skill of Julian Cope.
one of my all time heroes, what a creative talent.
Fantastic song. Love that pounding rhythm and the spooky sample. Can't believe I've just discovered it after being a fan since the early 90s.

Tricky 1
All of the above, plus that 1 note organ drone, and getting the word 'pyrrhic' into a song. One of the most eloquent songs I can think of.
pretentious dick.
Ahh come on. We're on a Cope page mate. Pretentious dicks r us.
Brilliant ,excellent track , love the guitar .
As big a fan as I am of Cope, I hate to admit I've never heard this album, so thanks kindly for posting this.
another fantastic track that i discovered through my big brothers influence.......love you bro xx
I do the same for my younger bro. Keep him off the awful music that he would have grown up with otherwise lol
Great track, lets keep music like this secret between us, It's so great I don't want to hear it on TV advert or film back ground music...
Been doing that for 40 years, dirty years don't deserve good music!!!
@@AlexAlcyone He had a couple of opportunities in the early 90s to completely sell his arse, but dodged out.
Agree, my favourite Julian Cope song ..
Aye.
Love the song and would love to hear it on an advert or film, spread the genius

Stunning song in every possible way.
My life is a delicate balance - the distance - tween town A and town B .. still secret for us..
Masterpiece.

best two note guitar solo ever, bar none.
Second to buzzcocks boredom
@@finelinebuildingdesign8943 three notes in that if you count the end one :). genius though, I agree.
I agree with you.
Searching for this one for ages...cheers. Up there

Cope at his best.... This track was always pure genius!
Kinda neat rhythm guitar. Copey knows he's great..........and he is !!!!!
+Tony Mack he's not always 'great' he just doesn't give a fuck when he isnt

The Magic of Cope
Great JULIAN COPE!
Bloody classic! I still have the album I bought in the 80's The album minus the track World shut your mouth! Still a banger though!
For some strange reason, I always associate the lyrics of this song with Leto II, The God Emperor from Frank Herbert's novel...Heck alone knows why, though it's probably to do with the line 'my heart's chemical incendiaries' along with the song's esoteric motivations. Fantastic!
yep great song and album, as for delicate balance its on a knife edge. listening to j cope and the rest of the 80s music is like so so good.
Pure f*ing genius
This is a favourite Cope song of mine
My war is a Pyrrhic victory; my strategy cuts like a circular saw. such a great line.
fantastic!
Is this record 40 years old soon? Loved it when it came out, reminds me a bit of Stereolab and others when I hear it now.
The creative magic of LSD.
Plenty of ppl into LSD create NOTHING

Great song's Cope ! I remember Soft Cell's sound !!!
+gdfidio Julian Cope had no involvement with Soft Cell. You're probably thinking The Teardrop Explodes...
@brotherjohnno agreed - was and will always be my fave!
I have got this on vinyl but sold my deck last month - back again -
How mad am I - the last three comments have been made by me - this one is at 3 in the morning
Young Frank's opioin

Pure Class.
pure genius indeed!!!
GREATEST
This album is damn good :)
@KARLITOS61 World and Fried would make a great double album lol! Same year.
a genius!
fucking brilliant song
Exactly like that! Pure genius!
World Shut Your Mouth is an incredible album. Fried too. And Peggy Suicide. And Jehovakill...
Haha...yep...he's pretty fucking awesome
Shit, he nearly did as much acid as me....fooker :-)
There's only one Julian Cope.
Immense
who?
💣
Best thing he's done since King Minos.
BON SANG
At this point, I discovered that psychedelic did not mean wah-wahs and hippy lyrics. This album is 3D!
Head!!
always proud to be the 666th

Blaming Julian Cope for Oasis is like blaming modern Germans for Hitler.
Music for brainiacs.
Weak and emotional, YNWA
