That aluminum chassis is WILD. It's like they took a rollcage and turned each tube into aluminum extrusions and castings and stamped and ribbed sheetmetal of equivalent size and strength. There's so much chassis bracing EVERYWHERE that it basically doesn't even need a rollcage.
Too bad it ended up weighing nearly 4,000 pounds. Part of the design should have been focused on getting the weight down closer to 3,000 pounds.
3,000 pounds and 1,064 horsepower would be bad@$$!
@@425superRocket no, it would be borderline suicidal. The weight doesn't matter - the Z06 already proved that. Almost 3,700 pounds - a full FOUR HUNDRED pounds heavier than a 992 GT3 RS with active aero - and it still absolutely destroys the GT3 RS on most tracks. GM added two turbos, even more chassis bracing, and a ton more cooling to that package. Frankly, I'm quite amazed that the dry weight of 3670 for the ZR1 is quite close to the wet curb weight of the Z06. And, as usual, we know that GM underrates the shit out of its forced induction motors, and that there is more torque coming out of the end of this crankshaft than damn near any other non-hypercar production car EVER.

Not if they went all out with a special edition of the upcoming Zora. AWD and full carbon body.
After the scamming dealers jack up the price on the ZR1 to a quarter million plus, the transition to a high end Zora could be feasible.
Love the ZR1, as is. I'd have to sell my house to be able to afford one.
@@spdcrzyExactly this. People really don’t understand exactly how difficult it is to take significant weight out of a car. It’s a resource intensive, obsessive, and expensive process that isn’t a straight forward net positive. A sub-3600 lb ZR1 with 1,064 hp, and more importantly, 828 lb ft of torque would be terrifying.
The Z06 with Z07 already goes tit for tat with the 992 GT3 RS, and has even *beaten* it twice on two separate tracks, one of which the Vette being in convertible form. Weight has never been a problem with GM performance cars, that goes for Corvette, Camaro, and Cadillac, and it certainly won’t be a problem here with the ZR1.
The fact that they managed to have the weight of it with all fluids likely around 3900 lbs for a coupe is just insane. This car makes more torque than anything north of a Bugatti or Koeniggsegg, yet the weight is still quite manageable/reasonable with it not having a carbon fiber tub. The engineering is on another level, which is nothing really new for GM’s performance division.
@@425superRocket it's already mostly carbon. It just doesn't look like it. There are LITERAL racecar CF parts on the road car now, FFS.

Since I didn't make it to Carlisle this year, I appreciate your coverage. ZR-1 looks very interesting, did you hear any HINT on the base price? I really like the E-ray and am shopping around for one. Think I'll wait for a 2025 so I can get the comp yellow.
What I actually want to see is people driving it point of view all of that stuff we've seen enough pictures of it.

They’ll stabilize but not tumble. Your choice for a 700 hp sports car in this country is limited. And below $200,000 it’s almost non existent. The ZR1 maybe out of reach for some leaving the Z06 market fairly healthy
They won’t. It’ll be a similar case to 458 vs 488, or GT3 vs GT2. Not everyone will want the forced induction car, and having the most powerful production N/A V8 still makes the Z06 an incredibly special prospect that will get it to hold its value.
Prices will simply stabilize like the other commenter stated.
