These 10 golf ball secrets will show you some inside info that manufacturers don't want you to know. Ever wondered how much it costs to make a dozen balls? What about a ball that's around 30% less than major brands, but performs as well or better. I go over that and more in this video.
I look forward to working with you much more in the future with Top Speed Golf. Good luck with your golf.

Joe Sternhagen lmao
Hahahah, your right about that.

Best video of this type I have ever seen. Clear, concise. Great information and I learned a lot.
Thanks Robert!
I thought this was clickbait. Instead, it's the best advice I've ever heard on golfballs, and it's exactly what the title said it would be. Thanks a heap!
Thanks Charles!
FINALLY!!! A sound explanation to all the confusing marketing in golf balls! Another quality video; thanks Clay!
Thanks!
very cool video. helpful. the best bargains are found when you go hunting thru the woods to find your lost ball, find 6 more. but now I know which balls to look for when mine goes screaming down into the gulch.
Haha...you can find some real bargains in the woods for sure. Happy hunting :-) Quentin | TSG Instructor
I just picked up a Snell ball on the course the other day, and tried it out from the tee box. This thing flew like a champ, and felt really nice.
Thanks for the comment. I agree, they are great ball and go just as far if not further than other premium balls. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Vice ball is good for the price
Thank you for the most informative video I have seen on the golf ball for a long time...
Glad you liked it. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for that for something I’ve never thought about !! Usually pick up Callaway supersoft now time maybe for rethinks 👍🏼
No problem David! Glad you liked the video. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Great video. I already suspected most of this, but it's nice to hear a knowledgeable pro lay it all out clearly and concisely. The other day I heard a guy talk about a new ball that goes over 20 yards farther than a Pro V1. I just shook my head.
Thanks Dave!

How can I get the product from Snell???
Excellent review. Agreed with your assessment of Snell and Kirkland. Very professional presentation.
Thanks Lance!
Great info, I kept waiting to hear what the third layer was for. I'm assuming mid irons? I'll be giving the Snell a try once my Callaways run out.
Thanks Scott, the 3 and 4 piece golf balls are typically for those with higher swing speeds. The extra layers allow for lower spin with the driver while still being able to get the normal spin on approach shots. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Scott Manthey Scott look up the comparison between the Kirkland golf ball that’s $15 a dozen to the Callaway golf ball which almost $40 and the Kirkland was just as good if not better bang for the buck I was shocked
best video ive seen on explaining golf balls. learned so much from this thank you
Thanks Conor!
Great video, Clay. Stayed consistent and on-message, and the message was spot-on!
Thanks Dave!
Been playing the Snell balls since they first came out and find them to be equivalent to the ProVs, etc for a lot less money. The new MTB Black is terrific and you can't beat the personalized thank you from Dean when you order them. Still appreciate the other balls but why pay more? Good review.
Thanks for sharing Jim! I agree 100%. Hope you're playing great! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Awesome info and great video. Thank you so much for the info. Snell is my new golf ball.
Thanks Javier!
Been playing the MTB black for 2 years and love them. Great video.
Thanks Jesse!
Great video best ever on the golf ball! Thank you Clay!
Thanks Seve!
Been playing Bridgestone for yrs. Now the new B330XS. 7 hndcp at my home course of approx 7000 yrds. . Just ordered 2 dozen of the Snell Black. Cant wait until the snow is gone to compare them. Great explanation on golf ball info.
Thanks Mark! Those are good balls too. I'm sure you'll find them comparable. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Great video with incredible information. I learned a great deal and it makes me reconsider the ball in play. I must admit I have fallen for some of the marketing hype before about low compression great distance junk just to find out they dont go any further than any other ball. I am completely with you on finding a ball that feels good around the greens to you because that is where the advantage of a ball will make a difference. Thanks to this video I understand a lot better what to look for.
My pleasure!
THIS!!! Very good information- I learned a ton!!
Thanks Clay for the info, your videos are really good.
No problem John!
Been playing snells for 3 years. Great ball!
Clay, best explanation about golfballs I have ever heard. Thank you so much
Very welcome.
I miss the Wilson True Tour (my all time favorite), the original NXT was my second fav.!
Great video Clay a fantastic insight into Tour balls vs Cheaper brands
Thanks!
My two favorite balls are Titleist DT Tru Soft and the Srixon Soft feel. I'm 58 and my drives on average are around 250 yards.
Hi Tom, thanks for sharing. Hope you're playing great! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Great information! I use Snell MTB-X because to me they basically act just like a Pro V1X and are about $20 cheaper per dozen, your video confirms why this is. Quick question though:
What's your thoughts on used golf balls? I recently bought 98 used Snells for super cheap, so cheap I couldn't pass it up (was free shipping and it worked out to about $10/dozen for a mix of MTB-X and MTB-Blacks). Undoubtedly I believe a lot of these will be lake balls because that's where the money's at for these used golf ball sellers, but do you think there's a real difference in performance between used (likely lake) golf balls that are still in really good shape vs brand new? I have a hard time telling a difference, but I'm not very good at golf so it's hard for me to detect these kind of differences.
Anyway, great video, and the honesty is appreciated!
That’s so good to know...I’ll order some Snell golf balls to try. I’m a TP5x guy and would like to compare them myself. Mahalo sir!🤙🏼
Hi, I think the TP5 balls are great too. You might be able to save a little money if you switch to the Snell. The performance will likely be similar but it's different for everyone. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Great explanation, thanks. Quick question on winter golf, I switch to a softer core to allow the ball to compress more (I switched from chrome soft to super soft). It certainly felt better off the club face and appeared to give me back some of the lost distance. Any views? Thanks.
Hi Tony, It's really not going to make much of a difference. I would just stick with whatever you normally play and try to keep the ball as warm as you can. A cold golf ball makes a much bigger difference than the compression rating. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

Great video. One question I would have is how about dimple patterns. I notice a difference in distance and I have often wondered since balls are so close what effect do the massively different dimple patterns make?
Hi Michael, I'm not an expert on this but I did find a great article on Snell's website regarding this subject. Here is the link: www.snellgolf.com/blogs/news/dimple-patterns-and-their-flight-effect. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Great review - agree With all you say - for me it’s all about the short game - end of story 👍
Thanks!
This is a great description of the ball debate and understanding. As my game improved, I wanted to see stopping power power. The higher spin on the urethane covered ball does make a difference. By the way, as the game improves you lose less golf balls also, so buying the higher performing ball is okay when they stay in your bag longer. Still, the price points are too high and I'd rather put that money toward greens fees. I tried Snell, Vice and landed with Cut Golf. The Blue and Grey are considered tour level balls. The blue landed on the Golf Digest hotlist and spin chart with a gold award. I now play the Cut Blue for $20 bucks a dozen. Unless they change, I will not. The price point is too attractive for what I've seen on the course. Thanks for the review. Great stuff as always Clay.
Hi Eddie, thanks for sharing. I haven't had the opportunity to try a Cut ball. Glad you found something that works for you. We'll have to give them a try. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
That was so informative. Thanks.
Thanks Greg!
The Snell golf balls are cheaper than the ProVs but it's still quite expensive in Canada. I used the Callaway SuperSoft and it's long, soft and it does bite on the green. Not as good bite as the ProVs but close enough.
Great video.. thanks for info
My pleasure!
Thanks for the great information & video!
You bet!
Hi Clay, your bottom line is pretty clear; Get the best performing golf ball at the best price. I absolutely agree, the Snell golf balls perform as well as any other high end golf ball, and the only reason pros aren't using it is because they are not being paid by Dean Snell to play them. After trying a few sleeves this year, I will be playing the Snell MTB black next season.
Hi Frank, thanks for the comment. Glad you like them. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
In the cold, I always carry a couple of balls in my front pockets--great explanation on ball technology and yes, some hype we all hear.
Thanks!
This is why i haven't bought balls in over 25 years. Soft cover balls i find go in the bag. Done deal. :) Also your video on stop flipping the club may have saved me, Hit balls yesterday and i was amazed. Playing today and see if i got it ? :)
Hi, thanks for sharing. Glad the video helped. Best of luck! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Thank you for the video, have you tried the Vice Pro Plus balls?
No problem Humberto! Thanks for watching. I personally have not tried them but I know Clay doesn't care for them. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
I love Snell golf balls...I normally play with ProV1's, and I can really tell the similarities around the green.
Hi, I agree, they play about the same. I can't really tell a difference myself. Hope you're playing well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
great video, about snell balls I have a few didn't know anything about them
Thanks Joe!
Thank you for very good information. It would bee interesting also see on cource testing. How much couple thousands rpm effects wedge shot in real life. What i have test my self prenium ball have more spin and stopping power offcource. However the difference is not much. I think it all comes to how much money you want pay some extra spin couple shots per round 😉
Hi Jukka, thanks for the comment. Glad you liked the video. I agree that would be good content for future videos. Hope you're playing great! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Thanks!
Nice explanations.
Thanks Robert!
Great stuff Clay. Anyone who wants an idea on what ball to play can choose to pay attention to what you distill for us here or spend hours crawling through UA-cam, like I did, damn it.
Thanks Jim!
Again, thanks Clay! Ever tried Cut, Vice or Pearl balls?
No problem Abel! I haven't ever tried those but I have hear good things. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Hey Clay, when you were talking about playing in winter and a cold ball, what about keeping golf balls in your pocket, and switching between two golf balls every hole?
Hi Pat, yeah, you can do that as long as you're not playing in a USGA event because it's illegal to switch balls like that every few holes. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Great information in the video. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Best info ever on golf balls. Thank you.
Thanks Rick!
Great video . I actually use the a soft compression ball just cause I like way it feels especially when putting. I dont spin my chips shots either so high spin isnt a big deal for me
Hi, thanks for sharing. Keep up the hard work! Quentin | TSG Instructor
@@TopSpeedGolf you are welcome and thanks
I've been playing Snell MTB's for a while now. They are great balls. I let my friends try them and they say the same. The distance and feel are the same as when I played the more expensive Titleist balls.
Hi Billy, thanks for sharing. Glad to hear you're enjoying the Snell balls. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
I'm in Belgium, never heard about the 'Snell' ball. I'll be the Orlando-Tampa, FL next month, where can I find them to buy a couple to try them out....
Hi Frank, they are only available online on their website (snellgolf.com) or Amazon. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
@@TopSpeedGolf Thanks a lot...let me see where to get them, and I'll tell you in all honesty about my impression !!!!
Really great! I want to study this even more, where have you got the charts/data from? Thanks Nicklas
Thanks Nicklas! I think the charts are from Golf Digest. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
@@TopSpeedGolf thanks! I look further at The Digest
Thank you for m,aking this video!
No problem Steve! Glad you liked it. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Great into. Thank you.
Thanks!
Clay, Enjoyed your video. Sorry I just found you on You Tube. Srixon Q Star was not in your test which I play along with the TM project A. Where do you think they would fit in your test> Thanks again for a very good video.
Hi Virgil, the testing was not done by us actually. I believe we got this from Golf Digest. It's been a while so I'm not really sure. I imagine those balls would have similar characteristics to the green ones in the chart. That is a total guess though. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Out standing review, and content!
Thanks!
Thanks Jordon Speith for the advice!
My pleasure!
Very informative Thanks
Thanks!
Great explanation!
Thanks Juan!
Ill try those Snell golf balls.. Im a huge BRIDGESTONE B330 guy,but anything for great performace and a cheaper cost
Hi, Bridestone makes some great balls too! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Enjoyed that Clay 👍👍👍
Thanks 👍
Occasionally we have to wait for the Snell balls to arrive in Oz. I watched a TXG video that tested the Inesis 900 Tour ball and it seemed to perform as well as the premium balls and at a similar price range as the Snell
I've picked up some of the Snell MTB Reds to try next spring...I have been playing the TaylorMade TP 5x this season....Clay, you may want to update your graphs, those are a few years old.
Hi Paul, yeah, I think those are from 2016. If you have been playing the TP5x then you'll likely want the MTB Black. The MTB Red is going to be more like and Titleist NXT Tour. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Been playing Snell for a year now and love them!!!
Awesome! Thanks for sharing. Play well! Quentin | TST Instructor
I play in the cold in South Carolina in the winter. I am aware of the problem with the balls getting harder. Should I buy a ball that is softer even in the cold? Which one would that be?
Hi Phil, I would recommend just playing the same ball year round. The difference in distance is going to be minimal. Just try to keep the balls as warm as you can. That will make the biggest difference. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
I did a test a while back between Pinnacle Gold and a few premium balls. I saw way more than a yard difference in distance. I may have been from "roll" opposed to "carry". After discovering this I thought about the human factor especially when comes to the price of the balls. I was probably wailing away at the "Pinnacle Gold" because I didn't really care but when I hit a Pro V1x I'm trying to keep it the fairway. LOL
Haha...thanks for sharing. Hope you're playing great! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Its true when they say golf is 90% mental.
Can you please test out the mg golf ball? I personally like them a lot but would like to know how the match up to the ones in your video
Hi mo mo, if they want to send us some then we'll be happy to test them. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Hi Clay
Love all your videos but slightly disappointed in this one as Vice Pro isn’t listed which is a direct competitor in the premium ball market. I would have loved to see the actual test itself as the vice ball is a great ball. I’m really curious to know what Titliest do in their quality control that Vice don’t...I’m actually genuinely interested as my son has shot a 63 with a Vice recently in the UK.
Hi, thanks for watching. I don't believe we have tested the Vice balls. Vice is welcome to send us some balls. Snell did and we really liked them. Hope you're playing great! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Now u tell me!! I just bought 6 dozens vice pro soft 🥴! Great info though 👍🏻
Hi Sulley, thanks for the comment. I haven't had a chance to try those but a commentor on this video said those are good too. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
My golf spy did a detailed head to head comparison of the Vice pro & the Pro V1. The test results were virtually the same in all the performance categories
I love my Snell MTB Reds!
Thanks for watching Bret!
wish i was good enuff to have a good FEEL for the ball!! i just knock it up there and try to get it close !!
Hi Larry, it just takes practice and a lot of golf to gain a feel for it. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
excellent video, here's my two cents' worth: i play the Bridgestone E6, and while I don't notice a difference on driver, i DO notice a difference on mid-irons. Maybe it's just me, but i'm consistently 5-10 yards shorter with the premium balls compared to my E6 (i'm a single-digit handicapper, and i'm fine with the mid-range balls because I have a hard time predicting when the premium balls will bite or just spin ridiculously from 150 yards out). I'd really like to see some tests done with the mid to short irons with the different balls because these are really the scoring clubs.
On a side note, what I do in the wintertime is get one of those handwarmers in my pocket with 3 golf balls. I change out on each hole. It definitely helps.
Thanks Chris! Also, thanks for sharing your experience. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Clay, I know this is an older video, but if you see this, I am an 11 handicap, trying to get in the single digits. I am deciding between AVX and Chromesoft X with Triple Track (love it for putting). Do you have any thoughts on those two balls? With being an 11, will I see much difference in the ball? Or does it not really matter until you're getting closer to a consistent 70's golfer?
It doesn't make much of a difference. Find something you like and stick with it. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
@@TopSpeedGolf Thank you! I am trying to lower spin on the driver but still keep the feel around the green ... but I wish those Triple Track lines could go on other balls. Damn Patents!!! Thanks Clay...you're videos are helping a lot! Keep it going!!!
Hey Clay, Thanks for this video. I just received an order from Costco the other day. They are only available online at Costco.com. I paid $24 for 2 dozen.
No problem Gregory! That's a great deal. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Clay a lot of good information. I believe the lawsuit was Titleist versus Cosco not Taylormade
My experience is pretty much in line with what you have stated. The differences I am a older, moderate swing speed (85 to 95 with the driver) golfer.
What I have found is the low compression balls do not go as far with the driver as far as a regular premium ball. The older distance balls such as top-flite and pinnacle among others.
Golfers assume because they have slow swing speed’s are better off using a cheaper distance ball. As you pointed out distance is about the same among all the balls.
A shorter hitter even more than the long hitter needs a better ball.
A long long hitter is maybe hitting a pitching wedge into a green often I am hitting a 7-iron.Due to the angle of flight and spin rate variation who needs the more spinning ball? I do not the long hitter
The biggest difference for myself was with putting. The hard balls I just cannot putt with as the clicking sound they make screws up my feel
The same is true with the low compression balls the feel while different then the premium balls I find inconsistent most of the time I hate them too long or not hard enough. They too have a clicky sound it is just not as pronounced.
I live in Texas and if anything in the winter the variation between the Fairway and the green can be even more pronounced so I always play the premium ball
Very good advice. Thank you. UK
Hi, thanks for the comment and all the great insights. Hope you're playing great! Quentin | TSG Instructor
thank you so much for all this info. I play the Callaway chrome soft Truvis and loving it
No problem!
Hi Clay, what's the best ball for slicers? Thanks!
I would recommend a low spinning ball. The Snell MTBX is a good one.
Personally i like the tm project a i felt like it performed for my game distance ondrvs and comfortable control around the greens
Hi Javier, thanks for sharing. Glad you found something you like. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Thanks for the commercial ;)
No use looking for Snell outside the US it seems
Hi, I think they are only available online. I'm not sure if they sell outside the US but I imagine they would. I think you can get them on Amazon too. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
This is a breath of fresh air surrounding the truth about all golf balls. I'll pass this along to my other buddies that have been gullible enough to buy the marketing, not the ball itself. Now I can say to them; "I told you so". Thank you !!
Very informative video, thanks. Have you ever tried Rife (formerly Innovex) E Motion or V Motion balls? I ask because if price is not that much of a factor, they are fairly inexpensive online. *Those that think this is a Snell advertisement have missed the whole point of the video. Enjoy losing your $50 dozen balls in the lake!
Hi, we have not tried those. We usually don't seek out balls to try. It's usually just people sending us balls to try. Snell sent us some and we really liked them. I wish it was an ad for Snell because that means we would have got paid for it :-) Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
How refreshing to hear honest unbiased opinion on golf equipment. Thanks Clay
Thanks Jim!
I enjoyed this video about golf balls however, one ball that I've never liked and is cheaper, is the Top Flight XL. It sounds and feels like hitting a rock off the clubface. I seem to never get any feel with the ball and just don't like them at all. I noticed the Top Flight was not in your list of balls. Why?
Hi Jerry, it wasn't apart of the study. We didn't do the study. I believe Golf Digest did. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Tom Watson in his book "Getting Up and Down" adovacated playing the short game with as little spin as possible. After all, it's only "predictable" on the surfaces with the same firmness and granularity. We tend to remember shots when backspin works and forget when it doesn't and causes problems. No wonder Tom Watson won 5 British Opens.
I quite like the feel and feedback of the "cheap" soft balls currently out there. I've often thought backspin was as much an enemy as a useful tool, especially watching pros suck back off greens into water like at Augusta or at US Open's. Many modern pros have one-dimensional technique which is why they fail on such courses and in such conditions. They are too used to playing golf like a game of darts.
Greg Norman's shots often screwed the entire length of the green! Is that really something to go after? I think not.
Hi, in many situations around the green you don't want spin such as for chip shots that you want to get rolling toward the hole. You can't really play pitch shots like that though. The spin is much more predictable then a chip type shot from 50 yards out. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
@Scott ?????? Do you have a video of that toe chip shot? I'm interested in learning it.
I used to hit the pinnacle straight distance. It was a little heavier, and had a slick cover. The spin lowers your distance. So you will pick up distance with a very slick ball. And weight is a big deal if you can swing your club with a lot of speed.
Theres a reason the long drive contests use hard, slippery balls. And smooth club head faces.
Hi, thanks for sharing. Hope you're playing great! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Great video, but I'm really missing the topic about the balance point of golf balls. I test some of my golf balls floating in salt water and in some of them there was a huge difference between the light and heavy side. If I tee one of them up with the heavy side to the left of right, shouldn't it fly a curve just by getting sidespin out of is wrong balance point? And also wouldn't this ball roll a curve on the green? An expensive golf ball should have a perfect balance point in my opinion.
Hi Christian, I think they have to be in a certain range. I'm not sure but I think a small amount of off balance won't make much of a difference. If you are buying a ball from a big company then they are likely meeting those tolerances. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
thanks i will give them a try.. new balls for the price of premium lake balls is a no-brainer :)
Yeah, we like them and it's nice to save money. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Thank you. Very informative data n review. I loved the story behind the Snell golf balls. I have heard great things about it and have switched from the ProV1 to the Snell MTB. The four-layer MTB red seems to work well for my short game.
Thanks Chad! Glad you liked the video. Hope you're playing great! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Always found this to be true in practice. I've got a bag of decent practice balls that I'll go hit in a field fairly often, some of them top-line and a lot of them more mid-line, a few from the $25-and-under list, and there's pretty much zero difference in height and distance on a 6-iron or wedge hit the same way on the face.
Same with on-course practice, with the possible exception of a marginal difference in total distance off the driver sometimes, although I'd say it's more than a yard or two with some balls, but maybe that's only at a scratch-or-better level (I've been as low as plus-2 as an amateur and a little better than that as a pro, and was probably top third or even top quartile in length among good players, disregarding all long-drive gorillas).
When I was playing competitively and the ProV1x came out, I tried it. My experience testing it under various conditions was that there's no doubt it was a little longer off the tee (I'd say an average of seven or eight yards), maybe up to half a club with irons (usually less), but it was so terrible on feel around the greens (IMHO) it wasn't nearly worth it for the difference between hitting 6 and 7 from the fairway. There's just no appreciable difference in scoring potential when we're talking about just a one-club difference, and not that much even with two clubs. Much more important to have something you like around the greens and that fits your feel (part of which is sound) with the kinds of shots you hit.
Also, I've certainly knocked around with lower-priced practice balls just for the fun of it when the course was empty, and there's almost no difference at all in performance other than, as you say, in the ability to hit certain kinds of shots in the short game and with short irons. If it's a super-cheap ball that doesn't spin, there are certain difficult situations -- downwind, hard greens, etc. -- where you're going to have trouble trying to stop it.
But in general, amateurs tie themselves in knots over this stuff in the same way they'll absolutely ruin their games and swings over being able to hit a 5-iron instead of a 4 or a 3 from a specific distance, like it matters what number is stamped on the club you need to cover certain distance reliably. It's just strange. But it's also profitable for the manufacturers, I guess.
As for Snell, I tried a couple of their lines (I think they had only two at the time), and I agree there's essentially no difference in playability between them and the big names. In fact, I haven't met anybody yet who wouldn't tell you the same.
And in cold weather, of course you're right. Good players who grew up in places where they play in the 40s for two or three months (or more) out of the year have always gone low-compression in the winter. As for keeping them warm, I haven't ever found that the "warm" lasts anywhere close to nine holes, and anyway, you have to gauge the drop in distance as the ball loses its heat, whether it's two holes or nine. I _have_ found a difference in going to low-compression balls once the temperature gets much below 60-65.
Hi Stephen, thank you so much for sharing. I agree mostly with what you said. There isn't much difference in the flight of quality balls. Usually it's just a few yards at most. The way the ball spin and feel really makes the biggest difference. You're exactly right, most people would benefit more from improving their golfing ability rather than fretting so much over equipment. This is why we do very little videos like this. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Everyone talks about Snell, Vice, and Kirkland, but I believe Cut Blue and MG C4 are the best for the money. Around $20/dozen and they are every bit as good as the Pro V line including the durability. In my own testing, I've gotten the Cut Blue to spin back more consistently on wedge shots than any of the others, so that's probably going to be my gamer going forward.
Hi, thanks for sharing. I haven't every tried the Cut or MG C4 balls. Glad you found something that works great for you. If they perform just as well as the ProV1 and are $20/dozen then that's a great deal. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
In my experience, the Cut Blues do not spin nearly as much as the Snell MTB. They are more in the mid-spin range, similar to the Vice Pro line. Haven't tried the MG C4.
I bought 5 dozen Snell MTB Black balls for $27.50/doz.
I like them. A lot.
At least as good as ProV1s at my level of golf. Half the cost.
Thanks for sharing. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Do you guys mind linking where you found the charts and any associated articles with them? thanks
They won't be easy to find. They are ancient. Did anyone notice the old Callaway Tour i and Tour ix in there? They are from 10 years ago so the charts of spin and ball flight are a little old to be worthwhile comparing to balls today. The charts came out of a golf ball test done by Golf Digest from memory.

Hi Henry, we have not tried those yet. I like the BTB Black. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Henry Rodriguez Harder feel, lots of distance, tons of spin.
Extensive testing was done with MyGolf Spy with the Prov1 vs the Vice Pro Plus and the SW results alone showed that the Vice was closer than the Titliest. This is the first video you’ve done Clay which makes me think that you’re being sponsored by Snell and Titliest.
Hi, we are not sponsored by either of them. If we were sponsored by Titleist then I'm sure they wouldn't want us making this video. Snell has sent us golf balls for free but they pay us nothing else. We just like the golf balls. I would also be careful with the "tests" that My Golf Spy does because they typically use real golfers which is too variable. The only people that I know of that legitimately test golf balls is Golf Labs. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
What is your opinion on Vice golf balls?
Hi Jim, I honestly haven't used them but I have heard of some people liking them. If they perform similarly then that's a good deal. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Clay, could you do a follow up video about recycled/refurbished balls? I've been ordering those this year, and i've saved a ton of $$. Like you said in your fluid spine swing intro towards the end, my off shots are because of me, not the ball. Anyway, a friend was trying to explain to me that there's a difference when they sell them as 'refinished' vs 'recycled' vs 'refurbished', is that true?
You want to avoid refinished/refurbished golf balls. The balls are sandblasted then repainted (often with a cheap, non-durable paint) to look new, but there's no telling how long the balls were sitting underwater, or even if the ball is the model being advertised by the new paint job. Recycled balls are cleaned, but not repainted, and they are a viable option from reputable sellers. I recently bought mint condition Chrome Soft for about $12 USD per dozen and they perform as good as new.
Hi Keith, I'm not really sure about that. You would have to ask who you are buying them from. I wouldn't expect the used golf balls to perform the same as new golf balls especially if that ball has been sitting in the bottom of a pond. The water does affect the balls and they can become water logged. This is fine just for practice balls but I wouldn't use them if you're trying to play your best and shoot a good score. Play well! The video references a chart a few times, can you link me to that chart please?
Also have you seen lately people cutting open balls and finding the center core being off center? Apparently there's some pretty serious quality control issues with Callaway balls. I'm interested in your take on this. There's a hash tag on Twitter, finditcutit that's worth looking at
Hi Chuck, I don't have the link to the chart but I believe it was from Golf Digest. Yeah, I'm not a fan of the Callaway balls. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they have quality issues. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
