Zachariah carefully taking his new snake out of the enclosure and saying Hallo to her is the loveliest thing in the world 🫶 such an entertaining and helpful video idea for beginners, as well 🎉
Your nephew is the best guest you have had! He is so cute and smart! The joy and pure happiness he has over Luna is so special! What a great ambassador for snakes.
I wish that all children were taught like this child has been taught or innately has the ability to be empathetic and loving towards all creatures. He seems like he’s going to be such a wonderful young man and I congratulate your sister so much on raising him and everyone around him he’s influenced him because he seems like such a good boy. Thank you for sharing this video. I totally made my day even though I’m watching it a year later
Nephew co-host Zach is everything precious and wholesome. It's heartwarming to see the next generation of reptile keepers and he's off to an outstanding start 🤍
Luna is such a lovely snake, and Zachariah is awesome! I love that he's into reptiles at such a young age. Many of my favorite memories from childhood involve my beloved pets. 🥰
His giggling is so precious! And he is so knowledgeable. He is obviously a smart young man. Tell him thank you for the help! I hope my niece can do the same with me one day 😁
This just makes my heart happy. Zachariah is so gentle with Luna and will have a friend for many years! What a wonderful thing to grow up with a pet that has such a long lifespan. He's very lucky to have a knowledgeable uncle and a cool mom to help him along his snake keeping journey! I love seeing kids excited about snakes ❤
Oh my gosh! You three boys were so entertaining! Well we still have some work to do with Kent. But Zechariah, I'm so proud of your know how! Good for you. Bob, great demonstration. And Shan you are a natural - along with you very cute son. Love you all!
Luna is beautiful! And Zachariah (sp?) handles her with such care. She’s a lucky girl to have such a wonderful care giver. It’s also nice to have an Uncle who knows what’s he’s doing. I wish Luna many happy years with her amazing family!!🐍❤️🐍
So sweet when he took Luna out of her tub! I was almost shedding tears 🥲 And I’m telling myself that I need to be a lot of braver lol don’t want to get shown up by a 7 3/4 year old!!! 😉
Sweet sunglasses Bob! I built my black box cage based on your videos and your sweet discount code as well. I have been experimenting and I planted a pothos in my coco chips in the corner and it has been thriving pretty good. I also found that my enclosure isn't perfectly level so I pour water into the side that is slightly higher and less the water work it's way down and it seems to do a good job of keeping the humidity right where I want it. I used your trick for making walls on bioactive to fill in the top of one of those really large corner stepped pyramid hides and topped the foam with moss and it's created a really cozy hide that my snake seems to love the best.
Okay, Zachariah might be my favorite person ever. He did such a good job helping you set up the enclosure for Luna! And watching him handle her just melted my heart. I wish he didn't live so far away from you so he could be your cohost more frequently! Next time you see him, tell him I think he's the coolest. I mean, how could I not think that? He loves snakes, he's seen every GRP video, AND he likes karate?! Me too!
Thanks for making the journey to your nephew - I loved seeing you work together!! I'm currently updating my two ball pythons (Soba - a rescue, almost 2y and very small for age; Pancake - my princely banana bp who's about 18 months) so this video came at the perfect time.
🥺💙 Thanks for being such a great uncle. I think this video just healed a little bit of my inner child. Great job on the enclosure guys, I know Luna is going to live a long happy and healthy life, and he's such a smart young lad I know he's going to take the best care of her.💙
This is awesome. Luna is a gorgeous marshmallow. BLESS YOU for probe placement and thermostat info, when I first started keeping it was my biggest confusion moment because no one correctly states or shows where it goes just that it goes (would love a breakdown on that just for my sanity and new people!). I wish I could afford a blackbox cage (saving up is so slow!), they look so dang sturdy (and they have sliding glass ones!) you picked a good brand! And I was SO HAPPY KENT SHOWED UP (I never thought I'd say that XD)
Oh my goodness, your nephew is just so adorable! It is so nice to see kids excited about snakes. Luna is a very lucky snake to have found a home with him.
Omg❤❤❤ I absolutely love this one with your nephew assistant! The love he has already for his snake comes through the video so clear and heart warming! ❤❤❤ hopefully I can bring my girls 7&8 yrs to see your snakes 🐍 we've been to Clints room before he remodeled.
I just got my first ball python after watching your videos she already 2 years old when I got her 3 1/2 feet long her name is lilith awesome videos man keep it up
Great video! So I was watching videos of people working with terrifying venomous snakes when your channel showed up in my feed. I tried to get a snake about 12 years ago..a cute little rosy boa. However, he was a bitey little asshole, so I ended up giving him away. After watching your videos, I now realize all the mistakes I made, and that maybe he wasn’t an asshole after all. Anyway, I’m thinking of trying again with a ball python and I have a question. I want to start with a baby snake. Is it best to go ahead and get a 4 x2x2 enclosure, even when starting with a smaller snake? Or should I start with a smaller enclosure like you had in this video and upgrade to a larger one later? Thanks and keep up the great work.
Love the channel 💯 great video. I’m going to a show soon 4 hours away all I good to transport a snake back home that whole time ? What’s a good way to do this? Thank you.
Great video Bob! Your nephew is super cool! But I am confused about the heating setup. I am getting a 4x2x2 PVC enclosure for my nearly grown ball Python and I ordered a complete kit that has all the bells and whistles. I’m wondering where to place these lights and deep heat emitter. Why did you glue the probe on the hot side? It surely wouldn’t be an accurate measurement of the average temp in the enclosure, would it? I would think to put it on the cool side and one of those little hygrometer/thermometer things on the hot side. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
You definitely want the probe on the hot side because that's what you're trying to measure. You're going to use the heat gun to measure the temperature where the snake is at and then you will set your thermostat to whatever it needs to be to get your temperature correct where the snake sits. That might mean that your probe has to read a much hotter temperature or a much cooler temperature depending on the setup but your temperature gun is what tells you the temperature that the snake is going to feel. My ball python care guide explains this as well.
Much obliged to you, Bob! I’m sure it will take some tweaking in order to dial in the correct temperature and humidity, and ensuring there is a temperature gradient. I ordered an expensive enclosure kit with all the bells and whistles, including a deep heat emitter and a Pro T5 Shadedweller, an Arcadia 50W deep heat emitter, and a 75W halogen lamp. It’s the same thing Emily uses and endorses from Snake Discovery. I just began using Forest Floor as the substrate in my current tub, and it keeps humidity very well. Should I put all or some of those lamps on one side only? Makes sense, as I need the temp gradient. Thanks again for your help and timely reply. This is my first ball python. Got him from the exotic pet store as a rescue. He’s a 4-foot male named Oreo and I just wanna do right by him. 30 years ago I had a boa constrictor and none of this stuff was available for proper husbandry. Once again, thanks and keep up the fantastic work! Say hi to Kent for me! 😂
Good video, really enjoyed it. Had a quick question about facial hair? Do you use beard products oils and such? Or is it harmful to snakes or only certain products to stay away from. I'm not sure could be a whole separate video just curious on your thoughts.
He did such a great job helping design Luna’s enclosure! And she’s super pretty 🤩 I just ordered my first Black Box Cage enclosure and should be here by the end of the week? Are you able to put a heat mat underneath the enclosure? Or would you just recommend using a heat lamp. My BP will be getting a 4x2x2 set up. 😊
Hey Bob, I could use your advice. I have a Kages 4x2x2 enclosure that I’m setting up. I opted for two 9” cutouts on the right and left side. On the warm side (right) I plan on using a DHP on a thermostat and on the cool side (left) I plan on using a Halogen to keep that temp at 75-80. Is that setup for success? In my current enclosure Im having a hard time getting my temps right so that’s my logic for going with this route in my new 4x2x2 enclosure. Thank you for your time.
Hi Rikki, I wouldn't use a light as a heat source because you'll need to turn it off at night and and your temperature could drop lower than you want it to. I would just use a CHE on the cool side if you need something to bring the temps up to the 78 to 80° range.
You say tape isn't good in a snake's enclosure? What about duct tape? Can I duct tape the probe up? I all ready have one corner of my wooded enclosure sealed with duct tape inside and out so water doesn't leak out when his dish over flows when he soaks in it.
You don't want any kind of tape inside the enclosure because your snake will find the sticky side of the tape eventually and you'll be spending a lot of time trying to remove the tape without hurting your snake ;-)
you should go into more depth about wetting your substrate, how wet is too wet and all that. i have to have the humidity of the wood substrate at 90% for the air in her tank to be in the 70's. does it matter if the substrate is super humid if the air is at the right level
The substrate should not be dripping wet but it can be damp. That should be enough to get your humidity where it needs to be. If it's not, use more substrate
Hi. Loving your content and am in the process of setting up a new enclosure for my daughter’s soon to be first snake, a ball python. What do you recommend to cover the screen top with where the light reflectors aren’t positioned? Thanks!
Awesome video, your nephew is a pro! I am not, lol, and have some questions. Can an enclosure be too large? Why do some ppl use lights? Do you prefer an overhead heater over an under enclosure heater? Thanks so much!!!
1. Potentially, depending on the snake. 2. Many different reasons to use lights but I don't recommend using them as a heat source. 3. It depends on the type of cage but if it's pvc, overhead heat is better
Awesome video ! I’m thinking of getting a black box cage cause my room can get pretty cold at night and I don’t think glass contains the heat well enough… I’m trying to decide what would be the best way to heat a pvc enclosure, what wattage of ceramic heat emitter did you use for this enclosure set up?
You should email them and talk to Clint at Black Box cages about what you're doing and see what he recommends. I would have a heat panel installed rather than doing cutouts on the top
Hi Bob! Thanks for all you do for the reptile world and all the knowledge you’ve bestowed. Im a new ball python owner and am perplexed at the radiant heat panel. I bought my 4ft normal a 4”2 Black Box enclosure (Ty for the code). I bought a 225W radiant heat panel to go with it and everything is installed and running. Under her hot hide now is only about 4 degrees different from her cold side. It’s about 82 in the hot hide and 78 in the cold. I am shooting the laser into the hides. On top of the hot with substrate is about 90. Ever since I moved her from her bin about 10 days ago she has been heavily favoring her cold side and I’m worried there’s not enough of a difference, but I don’t know how to change the cold lower and the hot hotter utilizing the rhp. What do you temp your sides at? Should I be worried/ especially for digestion? She hasn’t had a meal in her new enclosure (set for Monday) Help?
Hopefully your heat panel is connected to a thermostat. You can change the temperature of the heat panel using that thermostat. The inside of your hide might be slightly different than the outside but as long as you are around 90 on the warm side and 80 on the cool side your snake will be just fine. Many snakes favor the cool side of their cage. They don't need warmth all the time but if they need it while digesting, they know how to find it.
Zacharia giggling as Luna licked him is just pure Joy.
Awww the way he giggles when Luna tongue flicks him 🥺💕
Zachariah carefully taking his new snake out of the enclosure and saying Hallo to her is the loveliest thing in the world 🫶 such an entertaining and helpful video idea for beginners, as well 🎉

Luna is such a lovely snake, and Zachariah is awesome! I love that he's into reptiles at such a young age. Many of my favorite memories from childhood involve my beloved pets. 🥰
This was delightful :) One thing I like about keeping live plants in an enclosure is that watering them helps keep the humidity up.
Your nephew is AWESOME. This video will make anyone's day brighter. Thanks for making this!! ❤
He is a firecracker! Zacharia is a reptile god in training!
His giggling is so precious! And he is so knowledgeable. He is obviously a smart young man. Tell him thank you for the help! I hope my niece can do the same with me one day 😁

Great video Bob! Your nephew is super cool! But I am confused about the heating setup. Yes, I use beard oils. They're not harmful to the snakes.
Also with two cut out spots above like Lunas enclosure (:
Heat mats don't work well with PVC enclosures. You'll want to use overhead heat
If anyone remembers the PVC bar that looks like a branch where to get it from? Thank you so much!
Hey Bob, I could use your advice. I have a Kages 4x2x2 enclosure that I’m setting up. I opted for two 9” cutouts on the right and left side. I have several videos on this including the very first video posted on the channel
She hasn’t had a meal in her new enclosure (set for Monday)
Help?
Hopefully your heat panel is connected to a thermostat. You can change the temperature of the heat panel using that thermostat. The inside of your hide might be slightly different than the outside but as long as you are around 90 on the warm side and 80 on the cool side your snake will be just fine.
