    Hi guys, so sorry this one took so long to post. Unfortunately after a fierce battle with cancer, Alan’s dad passed away. This happened shortly after we finished filming this.
    We’re still traveling & making videos, but took some much needed time to heal and focus on other things in life. ❤
    Thanks for understanding and we hope you enjoyed it. Let’s us know if there is anything we missed that you would add. 😊

    Oh, also, there are 2 kinds of egg tarts in Hong Kong. There is the cookie like crust and also a more flakey like crust. The flakey like crust is more closer resemblance to the one from Macau and my favourite. Each bakery is also different in their recipe by a little so I like to try lots and lots.
    The Pineapple bun you bought is definitely not the one people are referring it. It's normally round for a start, and you can get it at the place where you got your Hong Kong breakfast, and it will come with a thick piece of butter in the middle.

      @@IfWeGoTo So the original egg tart were invented by monks in Belém at Lisbon, if you go there, the queue to take out is HUGE, but you can sit inside and there are a lot of space and there is often no queue.
      The egg tart in Macau resembles of those in Portugual, being a formal colony. The famous one is made by an English guy and his wife. They got divorce and she opened a store too and then sold the recipe to KFC....if you had gone to KFC in Hong Kong (and Taiwan). You can get those egg tarts. It seems weird that KFC in Hong Kong has AMAZING egg tarts.

    The pineapple bun is usually a round one with crunchy topping, instead of a stick-like one you ate. The best place to taste it should be at a Hong Kong style restaurant, with a piece of cold butter embedded in a warm bun, better still with a cup of milk tea.

    It was a shame as well as good news that the WALL CITY was torn apart and replaced with new buildings.
    If it was restored for public to see it as an outdoor museum, it would have attracted lots of tourists as well as locals who wished to know more about this place.

    • @IfWeGoTo
      @IfWeGoTo  25 днів тому +1

      Agreed! The construction style did sound a bit dicey and like it may not last a very long time
      BUT I completely agree, if they had restored it or made a replica of sorts I think it would be wildly popular with tourists!
      I saw they had built a small one in Japan as an arcade, it looked pretty interesting, but it closed down a few years ago.

      MacLehose Trail, one of four named long-distance hiking trails in Hong Kong. It is 100 kilometre long and is named after a former Hong Kong Governor. These trails basically connect existing paths with improvements made by the government to make them safer for hiking.
      Bride’s Pool is probably too remote to go to for a foreign tourist. Better try any reservoirs on Hong Kong Island or adjacent to Kowloon Peninsula. They are easy to reach by public transport and easy to walk.

    I am sorry for what you encountered in Hong Kong.
    In Hong Kong, if there is construction noise between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. on normal days or at any time on a general holiday, you may ask the police for help. Anyways, hotels are VERY STRONGLY recommended for tourists to Hong Kong for many reasons, and hotels will deal with the unacceptable noises for you.
    Next time, you may consider coming to Hong Kong around November, to avoid rain, fog, hotness and typhoons. Hong Kong is humid and hot in summer, easy to heat stroke.
    Hope the unlucky experiences did not wipe out the good sides of Hong Kong!

      @IfWeGoTo  26 днів тому

      Hotel prices were pretty high, but less than or comparable to many major North American and European cities.
      The hotel actually was the same price as our previous airbnb because they do a great long stay discount! We just made the cut off for it the day we moved!
      Plus the long stays seem to get placed on the higher club floors if there’s availability! 😊

    I recommend you can book the youth Hotel such as Mei Ho, YMCA and and so on, you eat the noodle is not Hong Kong noodle style. That is main land China food. You can try traditional dim sum restaurant that has many carts walk around to showing different dim sum. You ate dim sum restaurant is modern style but the food is also so yummy.
    Finally, I want tell you Hong Kong has many natural view that our government and Kol that do not show.

      @@jstussyer hahaha well we are very lucky that we have a pretty flexible budget and enough saved for scenarios like this! 😆
      BUT we got even more lucky that when I asked the airbnb host very nicely for a refund on the nights we didn’t use, they happily agreed. Plus the hotel and airbnb were basically the same price when you added in the hotels generous long stay discount, which we just made the cutoff for!
      I think all said and done it was about $100 USD out of pocket. Not too bad!

      @IfWeGoTo they initially paid for the tea, silk and pottery with gold and silver. They became greedy and forced the locals to "trade" in the exchange of drugs. They shipped the opium over from India under their own East Indian Company. The history is fascinating and sad at the same time. However, not many people care about the past.
