- A critically ill patient is brought into the emergency department after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest whilst in a local cafe with his wife. Meanwhile, doctor Bharath Reddy treats Maxine, who broke her wrist when she slipped de-icing the car, and another patient is treated after fracturing her shoulder.
The doors of the Barnsley A&E department are open every hour of the day. The reality series allows for a peek inside the hearts and minds of the medical emergency teams, and how they deal with critical situations revolving around people's lives and illnesses. The close-knit team exchanges typical Yorkshire banter and humor to aid them with getting through their often long and tough days.

Man I love all of there accents.its calming to listen to them talk and how sweet they are. If I had the money I would move there from Washington united state's.
Me too.
I catch about half of what the locals are chattering about.
Really?
It's great that they have a volunteer to support staff and patients.
I tried to volunteer at our hospital and they told me I’d be taking a job away from a paid person. You guys are amazing
Ev Palfy.
Then you should have said, "well pay me then".
AMEN
@@redblade8160 Nope!
Its true. Volunteer should NOT be a thing!
So sad the ninety year old woman had no family to care for her. Good job she had neighbours.
Jane the volunteer is such an amazing person.
I am from Queens, NY and I am amazed as to the size of the individual rooms. Our rooms are tiny. You could fit 3 to 4 beds Into your rooms. Wow, they are huge.
We have huge Hearts 💕. ENGLAND 🇬🇧.
@@elizabethkuchta5097 fkcn get in Ladsss yesss 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
In Omaha, it is just the opposite! I look at these UK rooms and they are so tiny, with just a sheet between. We have large actual rooms. Space issues aside, I think the kindness and desire to curb people’s pain ASAP is better in the UK by far.
Queens NY is probably 3-4 times bigger than Barnsley. Therefore, you have 3-4 people to Barnsleys 1 person.
So your hospitals need the space!!
I find it ironic she is worried about getting home in time for Emmerdale, when the narrator of this series is actor Dean Andrews who has played Will on Emmerdale since 2019.
I wonder why the US doesn’t use gas and air?🤦🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️
Drug companies
I always think the same thing. Seems much better then strong opioids
Neither do the Germans, unfortunately 😒.
@@jamescarpenter8068 yes they would rather make money dispensing pills than being practical. We also have a drug crisis in America. Sadly.
@@irishrose7053 sadly but true
"theyre all out of date, dont look too closely" LMAO
20:25 I'm no doctor, but from unfortunate personal experience alone, with those symptoms, I would be deeply concerned about a dissecting aortic aneurysm.
I really hope I'm wrong but it just appears far too familiar.
I feel so bad for him and his poor wife. That's so incredibly terrifying to go through and it seldom ends well.
A big thanks to front line workers
Great patient care
We don’t use it in Canada either, it seems like a good thing!
"Quite Barnsley" I love that!!!😍😍😁
That lady(jane) has a hart of hold ,she don't have to be what you what to be,she dont get pay for it ,she just be use full
I love sweet Jane!
I was a paramedic for about 10 years and an RT (respiratory therapist) for about 5 years so I was on the ambulance responding to 911 calls and as an RT I worked in the hospitals. I hated working EMS in a snowstorm. I worked in the mountains as well and in one county we had a steep grade and if it was snowing we couldn’t respond to calls if they were at the top of the grade. When I worked as an RT you couldn’t call out due to a snowstorm or you would get written up because the hospitals would either pay for us to stay at a hotel or we could we could stay at the hospital if there were either patient rooms that were empty or maybe stay in the pre op area. I never chose that route. I lived fairly close to the hospital so I always chose to stay home and drive in or if it was snowing after my shift they allowed us to stay at the hotel across the street and they paid for it HOWEVER, if you chose to stay at the hotel on the hospitals dime then you had to cleanup the room and make the bed before you left. There was also one other thing. If your department is shorthanded and you are not scheduled to work then they can mandate that you must work up to 12 hours since they paid for your overnight hotel stay. Uh yeah. I always chose to go home even if it took an extra hour to get home because if I was off the next morning I didn’t want to have to be required to work on my day off!
Thank you for looking after us x
My girl their accent is difficult to understand but it's so cool sounding and energetic !
Please give the personnel better chairs
The Romanian doctor is very good! My neurologist is Romanian.
Great hospital!
Bless
Why can't the USA have medical like England----NHS
CANADA----- OHIP
IT JUST MAKES SENSE.
Uk nhs is broken ..its a huge mess and many people are dying
Uk is overpopulated and beds are almost non existant
Water plants on an icy day?! ROLF!
Amazing TV show
Health professionals in England seem a lot…kinder…nicer..then in Canada. Over here, they’re all business.
well....they are on camera, so......
Not all. I live in Ontario and been in ER a few times and had both nice and all biz. We have less resources and ER staff are way over worked.
I live in Alberta and been in and out of hospitals for the last decade. Mostly really good and kind staff, but the occasional bad apple.
Agree 👍.
I live in Saskatchewan where our healthcare system can leave a lot to be desired, however that is mainly due to mismanagement at the upper levels.
I have spent enough time in hospital to recognize we have some amazing nurses, physicians, techs etc. A combination of business and caring!
I thought we did. I've been gassed before
I love women with a Scottish accent.
It's not a Scottish accent. It's a Yorkshire accent.
@@Teresa-L.2024 The Doctor, Ashley, has a Scottish accent.
Me too
Wait - did she say spit blood before they went out ???
Fire
I agree the volunteer is annoying
Give me some of that Morphine.
Temp in F or C?
Probably C. It’s Europe.
Yeah minus 20 is not minus 20 in the US.
Only America uses F
Dr. Romanian can take my temperature any day. 🥰
Love his Irish twang he's picked up 😊
here is a fact or fiction most doctors are left handed and the higher up specialists are higher chance of being left handed rare thoughts as i watch this
At 90byrs old, the elderly woman earned a head ct. Also, I'd have put in a staple, not glue. - I'm ao⁷⁷
"I sampled a few of these drugs!?!"
Yes, I also was "studying" for those 20 years.
The whimsical music does not suit a show about an ER. More appropriate for “Too Cute” on Animal Planet than about people experiencing medical emergencies.
Its better than a morbid depressing tone.
Is there no privacy with the elderly gent with heart problems....why is the neighbor sitting there as well..they've just given out tea, when is the popcorn 🍿 coming round? .is this a new spectator sport?
The neighbor could be good as family. I wouldn't hesitate having our neighbor sitting by my bed in the ER, they are practically family. She was there to support not only the patient, but moreso his wife, and Bless her for being there for her friends!
Are you really annoyed that people are allowed support and the hospital cares for everybody being hydrated?
Very sad and unprofessional of some in the health care profession who believe that most who are seeking medical attention in ER's are only attempting to receive some sort of narcotics. This is why when I have gone to the ER in the past. From the very beginning I inform them that if needed for pain I don't want anything stronger than Tylenol. This seems to prevent the profiling that most seem to do.
The volunteer is sooo annoying. She acts as if shes crucial to the hospital. I couldn't stand her if she was at the same hospital as me.
I love her.
Too much chit chat on this show, not enough medicine
The UK has the best hospitals drs and nurses. Best treatment ever
Volunteer Jan needs to go.
What? Why?
She is so annoying and chatting
I agree
She’s a VOLUNTEER! You try it.
I think she is hilarious !
Drug users and Capitalism.
Poor gentleman comes into resus immediately following a cardiac arrest and during initial assessment the nurse is literally standing there texting on her phone...
How unprofessional! Especially given the fact you're being recorded and broadcasted to millions! Where I live, she would have been fired on the spot. Smdh.
It's not her phone. It's a hand held computer. She's getting/entering data.
She’s doing her JOB with a handheld. Not texting. You insolent child.
Yeah its not a phone silly, it's related to the patients care, kind of like electronic version of charts
They use iPads all over now, it goes into the system immediately as opposed to loading notes.
She is documenting information on a pad, but they also carry phones where they are contacted about patient calls, calls from doctors, order changes, lab results, call lights etc. It isn't rude, it's work.
