  • A critically ill patient is brought into the emergency department after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest whilst in a local cafe with his wife. Meanwhile, doctor Bharath Reddy treats Maxine, who broke her wrist when she slipped de-icing the car, and another patient is treated after fracturing her shoulder.
The doors of the Barnsley A&E department are open every hour of the day. The reality series allows for a peek inside the hearts and minds of the medical emergency teams, and how they deal with critical situations revolving around people's lives and illnesses. The close-knit team exchanges typical Yorkshire banter and humor to aid them with getting through their often long and tough days.

In Omaha, it is just the opposite! I look at these UK rooms and they are so tiny, with just a sheet between. We have large actual rooms. Space issues aside, I think the kindness and desire to curb people’s pain ASAP is better in the UK by far.

Queens NY is probably 3-4 times bigger than Barnsley. Therefore, you have 3-4 people to Barnsleys 1 person.
So your hospitals need the space!!

20:25 I'm no doctor, but from unfortunate personal experience alone, with those symptoms, I would be deeply concerned about a dissecting aortic aneurysm.
I really hope I'm wrong but it just appears far too familiar.

I was a paramedic for about 10 years and an RT (respiratory therapist) for about 5 years so I was on the ambulance responding to 911 calls and as an RT I worked in the hospitals. I hated working EMS in a snowstorm. I worked in the mountains as well and in one county we had a steep grade and if it was snowing we couldn’t respond to calls if they were at the top of the grade. When I worked as an RT you couldn’t call out due to a snowstorm or you would get written up because the hospitals would either pay for us to stay at a hotel or we could we could stay at the hospital if there were either patient rooms that were empty or maybe stay in the pre op area. I never chose that route. I lived fairly close to the hospital so I always chose to stay home and drive in or if it was snowing after my shift they allowed us to stay at the hotel across the street and they paid for it HOWEVER, if you chose to stay at the hotel on the hospitals dime then you had to cleanup the room and make the bed before you left. There was also one other thing. If your department is shorthanded and you are not scheduled to work then they can mandate that you must work up to 12 hours since they paid for your overnight hotel stay. Uh yeah. I always chose to go home even if it took an extra hour to get home because if I was off the next morning I didn’t want to have to be required to work on my day off!

Very sad and unprofessional of some in the health care profession who believe that most who are seeking medical attention in ER's are only attempting to receive some sort of narcotics. This is why when I have gone to the ER in the past. From the very beginning I inform them that if needed for pain I don't want anything stronger than Tylenol. This seems to prevent the profiling that most seem to do.
