I think it's not fair to compare your old and new tools Jeff... If you're going to ask me what I would buy? I'll buy the Skil since it's straight forward on their product specially on this snips. SKIL has a USB charger and it's also convertible unlike WORX.
I just bought tbe Worx WX082L. The safety button is now on the side not the top, and the charger is a standard 6.5mm barrel end 6volt charger. Any universal charger will have an end to fit it.....yes, a usb would have been nice, but they use 6V not 5V. It is very easy to use, reasonably priced (the same or a bit less than the others), and it cuts thru a LOT of different things. I bought it specifically for those dang plastic packages and for carboard boxes, but I have used it on canvas and other material. I love my Worx tool!
It’s funny, I have one of these cutters that my wife bought me several years ago. It is a Skil, but mine looks just like the Worx design. I recently used mine to cut 100 foot of 1/4” hardware cloth for our chicken run. It was a life saver!
Enjoyed your Video.-- Great that you used so many different materials. -- Question -- How do you know if the Worx is as good or better than the Skil since you were you using a Skil that had a lot of past wear on it. --- Do you think one cuts better than the other if they were both brand new ?
They had the radio version of this one not at Home Depot when I was doing my Black Friday walkthrough, but we didn't have it in stock it was only a picture of it on the display I do want to score one however and do a comparison video
Just curious how old was the blade on the Skil? I've the little skil screwdriver that's identical to that cutting tool and think it's neat. Would you say the skil cutting was well worth it?
Nice video and comparison. Were you comparing an old work out tool to a new tool fresh out of the box? I guess Skil didn't stand a chance but was it because it was old? BTW, when you cut the 3 ring binder, it was quite scary seeing your other hand directly in front of the tool. Yikes, be carful!
Thank you so much for this video. I was thinking about getting my husband a tool like this. He has lots of power tools, but definitely not one like this.
I get what you were doing. Old verses new plays no part. But I need to know how to compare tool verses tool. Which one might be the best one to purchase so I don't feel like I'm wasting money on one when the other has a little more kick to it. I only have one question about both tools, do they both provide the same quality and functions?
The charger on the worx zip snip is precisely the reason that I am shopping for a new tool. I see a makita model likely kicks ass on anything you are showing us here.
the vinyl tile is what I really needed to see. I need to make small rounded cuts. It seems like the tool worked but it would be a struggle to use several times. hopefully I can find something.
@jeffostroff Tuesday we'll be 90° and probably around 80-85% humidity. We're headed for 95° by the weekend. That's Southwestern Michigan and Northern Indiana. Our humidity can run 95% at times. We need it to turn into rain. The ground is very dry right now.
Could this cut 1/4in wood? I noticed it's not a toothed saw blade so I assume not. I'm looking for a CHEAP EASY method to cut 1 foot wide detailed decor with curved edges out of thin 1/4 inch wood squares without it splintering or snapping. Hand saw takes forever. Jig Saw requires a table but can slip via human error if not mounted (maybe upside-down?), i.e. an EXPENSIVE HEAVY DUTY table saw. Good video btw, thank you, still might buy this lol.
This will not cut 1/4" I tried to cut 1/8" wood cabinet panels that we us eon the end of a cabinet and kickplate, and it bogged down as soon as we tried. But 1/4" will not even fit into the bade guard.
What I do to cut blinds is , use a grinder with a thin metal cutting wheel , and cut the whole stack at once , but do it outside ! I also use a clamps to keep it in line after I align square ! Try it for yourself , let me know what you think ?
Looks like a great tool, For me, I fold all of my boxes and use no power. It's so easy, just cut along any tape that's holding the box together.............and fold. Saves a LOT of time and energy and battery power. Unless you deliberately have to get the box into small pieces in a very small recycling bin, can't see any reason to cut it into such small pieces unless that's purely for demo purposes.
@@jeffostroff That's the thing, I'm on the DeWalt platform but what I've seen so far, the Milwaukee & metabo HPT seem to be more powerful. But up their at the Depot they have the old school pneumatic DeWalt for $60. I believe I saw it somewhere else for $40.
@@justingries819 -- before Black Fridays Matter HD had their Husky pneumatic framer down to around $90. Afterwards it went as low as about $70 and then went to well over $120. I just purchased the zip snip but after watching your video I think I like the skil better I like how the head comes off of the skil I'd take it off & pop it into my impact drill & really get it flying, if the guard on you're skil is tweaked why don't you just bend it back? You seem mechanically inclined just clamp some visegrips on the edge and bend it back in place a little
I've tried it, just seems the alignment is too critical. Canadian company sells them for $50 but it's $25 shipping to FL. I woudl buy a new one if the total cost didn't come out to 3X my original $24 price.
I learn many things through folks' comments. Hook blades on utility knife works great on golf grips & cardboard. Gonna see about a hook blade for my oscillating tools. Thanks!
@ approximately 16 minutes into the video, where the Skil could not run through the carpet that just been cut, you ought to run have ran the Worx for a second pass to really demonstrate its cutting superiority...since the cutted carpet tension was reduced. Overall not bad video. Subscribed!
If you're going to test both of these, you should have used a new skil. If it's old, then it doesn't really allow you to compare it against the zip snip fairly.
It was not meant to be a fair apples for apples. As I mentioned numerous times in the video, my old Skil was old and worn down but it was all I had. AND you can't get them new anymore you can't find them. You need to pay attention better
But will it cut pizza by the slice? I think every lazy pizza shop owner should have one - or two! Hopefully Milwaukee or DeWalt will come out with with an 18 volt brushless pizza cutter.
I had watched for the first 10 minutes and then there's a thought came to me: Is it worthy to continue watching? I don't get the idea about comparison between a new sharp tool and an old powerless tool. Sorry, but I really can't see the point
