I've got to admit based on several other sail life style channels I've seen, I thought I would unsubscribe from this channel when the boat build was done, but this channel seems to offer a much richer content than typical, I'm really enjoying the content. Keep up the good work please!
Agree. I like how they don’t over glamorize sailing, and aren’t turning it into a scripted reality show.
what, you mean you dont like boobs and alcohol everywhere with about 30sec of sailing?
@@maxlundgren3482 and we're not getting a bunch of bikinni clickbait in the channel either, very family friendly...
You do a damn fine job with the sailing videos.
Its not the winch, it is the wench.. ha ha ha. Thanks for sharing your adventure, happy sailing. Charles
Stay safe.
Mads - I've been a subscriber for years and yours is one of my two favorite channels. A big part of the reason for that is that I think you do a great job!! I just want you to know that I think Ava is really coming up to speed as an equal. I like her sense of humor, her filming, her clear speech, and she's just fun to watch and listen to. I watch a number of "couples: videos and both couples doing a great job with the videos seems to be a key to success. Keep it up and, as always, thanks!!
I’ve also been a subscriber for year but think I’m going to have to stop watching because of Ava. While she seems nice I have watched this channel for sailing and refit not watching her randomly talk about weather, her clothes, ferns, grocery stores, etc.
Ava is great! I really enjoyed her vlog. It's interesting to see new places through her eyes.
OMG!😲 Mads actually left Athena beyond visual range for a considerable amount of time.😁 This episode is starting to get a sailing life vibe (& not just boat work vibe). You should do more of these type of episodes, and show more of the interesting parts of the places you visit has to offer like this distillery & the town itself. Afterall, it's why people sail to these places, correct? Oh that, and to do boat maintenance in exotic places.😁
I am sure Mads has a CCTV camera that he can connect to on his mobile ;-)
@@Madiba100 😁😁
Another great video keep safe
Nice to see Ireland, provides a good contrast to majority of sailing channels that tend to be in the Bahamas, Med, Central America, Pacific.
Great vid 👍🏽
I know absolutely nothing about sailing but could watch your films all day they are amazing ,
This video is a great mix of boat work and sailing life. Ava's video about her shopping trip was great fun!
Don't worry about people just watching boat work, others have started with rebuilding their boats - Uma, Atticus, Evans, Curiosity etc and then went sailing. They didn't lose viewers, neither will you.
You two are doing a great job. Love the DIY solutions and Ava's cool videos on sites where you go is great too. We are going to use your template for some of our videos in the future. Thanks.
Another great video, I was attracted to this channel for the DIY boat stuff but it is really entertaining following you on cruise, with Ava solo expeditions and all 😊 Fair winds to you !
I enjoyed the windy walk. Thanks for sharing. See you!
Anyplace with all those paint colors MUST be home to happy smiling people. Love it.
I would not "fix" the outhaul being too long: it's a classic instance of an item of running rigging where almost all the wear is concentrated in one (or a few) localities. It greatly extends the life of such items if they start overlong, and then the "nip" can regularly be "freshened" (the location of the wear moved to an unworn portion of the line) by shortening the line from the end where it terminates.
Enjoy West Cork guys and the islands, don’t forget Cape Clear island, Schull and of course our beautiful Fastnet Light house ❤️⛵️
Not to mention the Bakery in Schull does a very nice Turnover Loaf
@@johnciall I bet Ava she knew that before they left. 😁
Yea I agree it was the winch lol if you were in training it sounds like instructor fail not student lol have fun and enjoy it needed new line anyway
Mads and Ava, sitting watching your adventures and Irish countryside, sipping my Jack Daniels No7 and scanning google earth of the Irish coast. What more can one wish for....braving winter in Aus.
Thanks for showing us a bit of Ireland. I think I enjoy your postings better now, when you are sailing. Fair winds
You do not need to make every learning error by your lovely wife, part of your video. Lighten up. PBH
Beautiful video! We really enjoyed the tour. (The whiskey looked amazing!) 😎💕👍😎💕👍😎💕👍
Mads, I'm so happy to see you made it to Kinsale. Old Head was my family's homestead for hundreds of years until the 90s when it was sold as a golf course. Everything south of the Bandon is still considered Courcy Country today. I saw Paragon also made it there. I'm a loooong time follower of your channel and am very happy to see your dreams and hard work have all paid off.
Being Irish it’s great to see you guys sailing here and hearing what you have to say about the place. Really enjoying the videos. Well done.
Crookhaven highly recommended for a stopover. Stunningly beautiful and sheltered, if isolated
While the lack of glorious sanding has me worried about Mads, you guys are producing interesting non-DYI videos!
lol Jack & Daniel's. You weren't lying about not being a frequent drinker of spirits!
We say that you’ll get all four seasons in one day, that wonderful 🇮🇪 don’t forget to say hi to all you meet. 👋
Ahhhh, the Redbreast 12 is phenomenal. Nice easy drinker with enough flavor to keep it interesting but not overpowering. Cheers!
The differences include spelling, as you've no doubt found out! Whisky vs. Whiskey. Thanks for your great videos!
with whisky (or wine), all that really matters is if you like it, or not! 🙂
Jameson is definitely a favourite of mine.
WOW! The "To Do" bulkhead was completely bare. Don't think I have seen that before.
Cool images of little ferns growing in crevices of rock walls and stunted trees are just fine. Don't stop on account of me.
And now what do you do with that giant spinach leaf? Salad? Steamed? Or Boil the hell out of it as my mother used to do with all vegetables? If they weren't grey they weren't done.
just found your adventures, thanks for giving me a vicarious personal adventure through my laptop! Definately Ireland spells Whiskey with and E ...
Another lovely video guys and another legendary tour by Ava. You're a pro. Thank you and sail safe until next week
Really digging the new video and music formate...nicely done.
It is just one of those things in my experience, if you use your boat stuff breaks. Best wishes for more happy DIY fun in exotic locations , also called cruising by some people.
Like the history y’all give on the places you visit.
A friend shared this with me. I’m American and I usually have to watch British and even some American channels with cc. You (both of you) speak English so clearly that I didn’t need subtitles 👍👍👍
Great job Ava! I figured when the DIY portion was complete I would move on but I find your travel updates very interesting so thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing your life with everyone
I knew if I hung around this corner long enough, you guys would drive by.
😀
At 10:16: This is not just some random baby tree, it's an olive tree from much further south. They can survive -5C for a few weeks and -10°C for a day or two but usually they only grow outside in Mediterranean climates where there's no freezing during winter. It is definitely the most northernly all-year-round-outside olive tree I've ever noticed.
Mads, a tip for your whiskey. Keep it in the freezer, it is much easier to drink, less heat in the mouth and more in the belly.
Ava, your windswept hair looked fantastic. So not bringing a tieback was a good thing.
Jameson Black Barrel would be a good addition to the drinks cupboard! Nice episode
Lovely vlog, as always. Ireland is a country on my bucket list … you’ve convinced me why! Thanks, guys … 👌🏽💯🎉😎
Love watching Athena and your travels 👍
Certainly enjoyed seeing more of the local area. It's been all too rare to get much of a sense of the local communities where people are stopping. Thanks!
Eva, you’re doing a kickass job👍Way to go Mads throwing Eva under the bus.
My wife and I enjoy so much to watch your videos..your sense of humor and attention to the details sets you apart from the other sailing channels..
Sorry Mads you failed!
The difference between Irish and all other whisky is the "e". Irish is spelled "Whiskey".
Thanks for not missing beautiful Kinsale, I knew you'd enjoy it.
My father is Derry (not Jerry) the farmer in Kinsale who brought you to Cork to get rope. He couldn't bring you oil the next morning as he had offered because my mother tested positive for covid so they both had to isolate; he tried to ring you a few times to tell you but he couldn't connect. I hope you will see this message!!
Loved this Video! nice mix of exploring, informative sightseeing and a hint of DIY/repairs - roll on next Sunday :)
Red Breast is one of my favorites. Good choice. Last time I was at Middleton I picked up a bottle of Green Spot; it’s fantastic!
For a bit of US nostalgia are you going to Baltimore, County Cork. Great update 2x👍
Your honest opinions on the various places, the costs and benefits is very good and useful info for those who sail in your wake. Thank you.
Great to see the downs as well as the ups of liveaboard lifestyle and the little trip hazards it throws you like the power of an electric winch to do damage!! Luckily the line acted as a fuse and no serious harm done.
Have fun and keep it real
You both are so great together. Happy for you both that you found each other.
Glad to see you are enjoying Ireland and our "soft" weather. It has been a miserable summer but hey, it's Ireland.
Ireland always draws visitors in to wanting to stay longer. I glad you guys got a chance to enjoy some of their hospitality. Great video :) loved the walk and the boat talk. :)
Thank you for letting us tag along.
I'm glad to see you let the Eva out to hunt in her natural environment.
Nice episode- good mix of sailing, boat jobs and baby ferns!
Be sure to check out crook haven bay and go diving around there and enjoy some lobster. Fastnet rock is also on your way back or head around mizen head. If you go around have a hiking day in the mountains.
I remember the funny weather from my last visit to Ireland (Arklow) in 1979. "Nice breeze, isn't it?" or even "Nice Rain, isn't it?" people would say.....
Public transportation allows me to really be a tourist, instead of concentrating on who's going to drive into me. 👍
I'd love to take a long trip stopping each night to sample the local Scotch and Irish distilleries and smoked salmon every night.
Great to see you doing justice to the joys of Ireland and West Cork.
Well you certainly selected two of my favorite Irish whiskies. Both are excellent. And while the liquid sunshine stopped falling from the sky, you now have two bottles of pure Irish liquid sunshine. Thank you Ava for the walking tour of Kinsale. Thank you both for the relaxing Sunday afternoon video.
Yes indeed. Redbreast 12 is so very tasty!!!
Welcome To Cork, the real capital of Ireland. Check out some of my vids. Glad you guys stopped off. If stuck for anything mention me here. have transport. Ta Dah!!!
hey guys .. yep some interesting content ..but don't forget to show sailing. Cheers
Nice episode.
Excellent transition into sailing from DYI. Keep it up, you two rock!
I thoroughly enjoyed the sailing format it's fun to watch you guys wonder about. Thanks
I did the same tour some years ago and recall that they pronounced Jameson as Jimison with almost no emphasis on the second "i". Great video and the story gets even better. Thanks.
Kensale is one of our favorite spots in all Europe. We had the good fortune to get stuck in Cork when the volcanos in Iceland blew their tops and shut down all flights in Europe. We were in Cork at the time vacationing and ended up staying an extra week…poor us…😂 We drove to Kensale every day. The shops and food were great.
Great adventures
Rampant alcohalism ? I thought that is why some day I will buy a cruiser sailboat !! LOL ! Yes yes and DIYing also !
Another great video
Don't feel overwhelmed about tastes being described. These folk are the troubadours of today, they tell stories and embellish pretty little ribbons on them.
Thanks to Ava for the interesting walking tour.
I did a race from Kinsale to Glandore, a few weeks ago, and it only took 3 hours 20 mins. We had strong winds behind us the whole race. the return was not so glamourous, taking 13 hours.
Nice video...you guys are doing fine in the presentation of sail travel and local exploration...while not a DIY video, your content is great.
When will Ava steer the boat in/out the harbors, even anchoring? It's crucial that not only one person has these skills (in many of the channels I watch the woman drive most of the time)
I would switch who is captain every day to include all decision making (chart plotting, weather, nav, battery charging, systems, etc etc....)
Mads & Ava, you guys have made a great transition from DIY to Travel Vlog + some DIY + some sailing. It's great, please keep it up! I'm enjoying the details on how to plan, chart, and operate -- just like you've done in this one.
How much did you two practice that ending? I think I could say that for all of your videos. LOL. Great video again, love your adventure guys.
Jameson is lovely in Irish coffee!
You guys are still the masters of video, I like it a lot. 😊
15:17 easy fix is to chop off the loose strands, use some fishing line to wrap around and then tape some textile tape around it at an angle after which you need to sow the whole thing a few times to make sure it stays together. All the strength is in the core, but this makes sure the line doesn't go off fully and it won't snag either. It will get you through and it's easy to perform even in rough sea, faster than taking it all off.
I stayed at Kinsale Yacht Club as a kid. A very welcoming community and a lovely town. Thanks for taking me back
Hey Mads, you’ll not remember me but I was on-board Athena when you got her in Kirkcudbright. I gave you the bottle of Jura whisky so how did it compare to Jamieson’s? Loving your journey and who knows I might see you in a marina soon…… 👍🏻
Your chart table monitor is epic. Is tied into you Garmin chartplotter? Thank you.
Kinsale is a great place I used to make the journey from Larne ( N.Ireland) to go shark fishing on the local charter boat . Enjoy !
men in my family drink just the three W's (water-wine-whisky), and for the last W, we go almost exclusively for scotch. However, after my wife's last research cruise to the north Atlantic I got the redbreast 12 and I have to say it is excellent.
Watching you guys living your best lives makes me smile.
lol, I've been drinking Redbreast for ~30 years, love it and your channel. Thanks
Great storyline and production quality was very good. I think you've found a very good balance of sailing, boat maintenance / projects and destination travelogues. Lot to like here...love Ava's sense of humour (and Mads too). 'Back on the road' metaphor seems weird though 🤔
Great episode beautiful place.. I love where you guys are... Thanks again for sharing your lives with us grateful an Fare winds and following sea's guy's ✌🏼💗😊❣️
in Ireland we have 4 seasons a day...
it rain only twice a week...
first time for 3 days,
second time for 4 days...
😂😂😂
welcome to Ireland and enjoy your stay
If you like Kinsale, you’d love Kenmare.
As most others here I love watching the channel, the DIY parts are nothing short of fantastic, the sailing is good, however, I find the tourist visit parts a little too long lately. That said, outstanding channel, great to watch, so many DIY tips and tricks!!!
Love the travel vlogs! Ava's tours are awesome too 😍
