Amaravati was to be the capital of divided Andhra Pradesh.
When the Telugu Desam Party lost power in 2019, the Amaravati project paused. Under the YSRCP government, Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy said that he would opt for a three-capital formula, triggering a series of protests from farmers who gave up their land for Amaravati.
With Andhra Pradesh set for Lok Sabha and assembly polls next week, the issue of the capital becomes more significant as - according to the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014 - Hyderabad will cease to be the joint capital of the two states after June 2.
But what has happened to Amaravati years after it was proposed? TNM’s Dhanya Rajendran and Anjana Meenakshi explain.

Your correspondent did not cover the fact that more than 100 government departments, PSUs bought land for setting up their offices. 2 private universities SRM,Amrutamayi have established their institutions there. In addition to a number of buildings for housing government officials, MLAs,Ministers, are in various stages of completion. No body would object if discussion for location is before taking a decision. It is obsurd to bring up objections after State legislature approved and thousands of crores spent on infrastructure. All this fuss for what? Does any state India has 3 capitals? Then how many capitals our country should have for development?

This decision really resembles Tughlaq's disastrous decision of moving capital from Delhi to Devagiri.

CBN wanted amaravati bcos a lot of his caste people reside in amaravati. He told various people to buy lands before declaring capital. Govt bought lands for cheap prices and gave it to his friends. Jagan came and overturned his plans.

Capital of AP issue has been there even at the time of 2019 elections, right?
And the current CM had clearly stated his desire for a review of the previous Government's decision that time- on the grounds that the decicions were arrived without considering the opinion of people across the state- and mind you, he did manage to win the elections. How was that possible, unless there are a considerable number of people who supported his views?
AP has three regions- 1. Central/river/paddy belt in which Amaravathi is a part, 2. Uttarandhra- river and sea region, which contains Vizag etc, and 3. Rayala seema the dry arid region (which is most neglected) which has Karnool.
Each of the three regions had and still has different priorities and issues- but Naidu's government chose to concentrate the state's resources in Amaravathi, while disregarding the basic issues in other regions. The more Naidu and his collegues 'talked' about Amaravathi and what they had planned for the capital region, the more had people from other regions got alienated from him. That is what led to the emergence of YCP and the downfall of Naidu.
The sad state of affairs at Amaravathi are condemnable, but you must note that is not the only/most important issue the state is going to vote on in these elections 2024. Each region has its share of concerns, and will vote differently.

Although I agree with almost all points, Jagan winning elections doesn't legitimise the opinion that people of different regions were unhappy with the capital.
In fact Jagan has wasted whatever money the govt spent in Amaravati by just removing it and trying to push for 3 capitals, which remains unsuccessful.

RSS/BJP does not want to relieve Shudra from its slavery. Hence opposing cast census!
Shudra from the Southern States have mostly set themselves free from this Sanatana Slavary and progressed well. All those who don't wear Janeu are the Shudra population.
For Janeudhari Sanatana Hindus of RSS/BJP, Native Indians/Shudra population become Hindus only during elections.

Politicians spend the Public's money to fill their personal whims and fancies and thousands of crores are just wasted.
It should be an ALL PARTY's endeavour to develop Andhra.
Net result FARMERS ARE LEFT IN LURCH, as usual.

All “Parties” had agreed to the Amaravati Capital Proposal on record including the present CM. But later on…… The Ruins are there for people to see.
