My main motivation for studying comes from this Lemony Snicket quote: "They say in every library there is a single book that can answer the question that burns like a fire in the mind." - Therefore I feel like the more I study, the closer I am to finding that answer.

So, I have do defend the muji pens, for there is one use-case where they are actually the best (but still not worth the hype): At my university you are allowed to take one page of handwritten notes into your exams and there is nothing that can beat the .38 muji pen there. They don't smudge and I can write up to three lines in one grid without losing the ability to read them afterwards. I have been using the .4 Pilot G-TEC-C4 before and mujis are simply a bit better.

    • @ninamarie177
      @ninamarie177 2 роки тому +43

I don’t know if they still do them, but Muji used to offer a .25 mm gel pen that is even better for those handwritten Formular sheets as they’re noticeably thinner than the .38 mm ones.

I also really like them but because they are only available on Amazon and are shipped from I think it was Japan, it did hurt a lot to pay so much for shipping and also on top of that an additional 15€ for oversea shipping. Shipping nearly did cost as much as the mildliners themselves.
So although I really do like them a lot and I use them everyday (for me they are nearly everything I could want in a highlighter) I probably wouldn't buy them again. But if I could purchase them here in a shop I would definitely buy them again.

I LOOOOOOVE my Remarkable. I’ve had mine for almost 4 years and I couldn’t live without it. I like that I can’t do anything but write on it. I also write in cursive most of the time and it even does about 95% correct conversion with my cursive.

Exactly. As time went on I even got rid of more and more as a student. I stopped using special paper or notebooks and used plain, the cheapest I could find, notebooks. During my time as a student the biggest game changer was an extra monitor to use with my laptop when writing at home. Buying a good keyboard and mouse can also make a huge difference. Getting those documents up on a bigger screen makes a huge difference and doing research online is more efficient and a monitor doesn't have to be expensive at all.

Just incase someone was looking for a cheaper alternative to the Remarkable -
I was looking into buying a Remarkable (because it honestly seems incredible), but the price was just so far out of my budget it was almost laughable. I ended up getting something called a Boox. They have few different models, some of which cost the same as a Remarkable but some that cost hundreds of dollars less. I got their cheapest one, which is obviously less advanced than the more recent/expensive models, but all of the key selling features remain the same (it feels like paper and basically functions as an e-book - e-notebook combo). I've been using it for over a year now for both reading and writing and I really do love it.
My only critic is how easily worn out the pen nibs are. I am quite a heavy writer, but the pad comes with multiple spare nibs, which suggests to me that they are expected to be worn down.

It depends I guess. For some people it’s storage. I personally prefer writing on actual paper, and most of my notes are on actual paper notebooks, but some classes utilize power points and I find it easier to download them unto my iPad, annotate them there, then rewrite them on paper. I also use the iPad instead of a notebook on classes that are not very extensive in note taking and may require me to move info around, but any major studying has me rewrite them on actual paper as nothing really beats the feel of real paper for me. It’s also satisfying to flip through all my notes at the end of the semester.

I find it so invigorating when I can adapt what I have learnt to my daily life and being able to sit in an exam knowing every single question because I was so intrigued by everything I have just consumed from studying. The giveaway question was so personal to me because I never needed a reason to study, I did it because I had exams and it was part of the system. But now I realize the importance of having motivation so I thought long and hard about it a few weeks ago, and my motivation is just knowing stuff. So many people spent a huge chunk of their lives to find the answer to a questions, to do research. So many people have written their advice and life experiences in books and papers. There is infinite amount knowledge we can get get and educate ourselves. And this very knowledge is such a gift, once you make it yours no one can take it away from you! it can be used to improve lives, help others, improve the environment, discover and invent new things and so much more. For me studying has always been a chore which I dread, but while writing this I realize how much I actually enjoy the process. I love learning just for the sake of it, to feed my curious mind and help it to grow. Learning really does bring us joy. I've always disliked the idea of doing something so you can capitalize it later instead of truly enjoying the process. I hope that this fire for learning always grows in all us!
edit- I have a tip for all those who want to have digital handwritten notes without an iPad, you can use a graphic tablet which is soo much cheaper and you can connect it to your laptop without having to look down straining your neck. Here in india,The books are the main source of education.. Nowadays many study vloggers are buying iPads in our country too but still the main thing we do is read the subject books..All the notes are to be made on paper or a separate notebook..We have different notebooks for different subjects in school.. Unlike in america as I have heard they choose subjects in school from grade 1 I guess, here in india studying all the subjects till class 9th is compulsory (science, maths, social science,an additional language, english, hindi, computer,gk etc). After 9th I.e. from 10th class we choose some main subjects and some additionals. Then from class 11 th we have to choose amongst 3 categories or subjects to study that are arts, commerce and science..And then additionally buying an iPad just to make notes in not worth it here because we are not allowed to take any mobile or tab or even smart watches with us to school and this rule implies on all schools..I personally use pens of ₹5 I.e. £0.049 to ₹10 and I would say that they are the best whether you buy a dot or gel pen. They are smooth on paper and everything..There are a lot of more expensive pens but what's the need..And we children don't get our separate phones until we are old enough (18 or so) cuz that's considered a distraction..Only during this corona pandemic because of online classes we did get phones and tab but otherwise we mostly don't..But ya I love your videos and I m also a big hp fan

I love how you decorated your room, but thank you so much for your honesty about reviewing these products. Paperlike is actually sooo bad it wears out quickly, it’s expensive and it’s honestly not that good. You can easily just buy mat screen protector that is supposed to feel like paper for way cheeper and some last way long. Aside of taking notes i’m drawing a lot so not having glassy feeling is a big thing for me especially for details, luckily I bought mate screen protector on magnets that can be cleaned and used over and over again, it’s not as perfect for drawing as normal one but it’s way more comfortable when you need to watch something (you just take it off and then put it on when needed) in higher quality of just your screen and personally it’s enough for me as i don’t draw professionally (it’s just a hobby).

The iPad is amazing but I think there are definitely some down parts as I‘ve seen from some people in my grade. They have to scan all the documents handed out in class first which takes a while if it‘s a few pages worth of information. Plus they completely rely on the iPad‘s battery, if it dies, all your notes and digital textbooks are kinda gone. Plus it definitely distracts if you have other apps on there as well and school wifi. I speak from experience.

A tip for some people that are planning to get a laptop because your school/university requires it but still wants to write notes by hand and draw you can always buy a laptop that has touch screen and if it doesn’t have a pen included you can buy a stylus or something similar to the Apple Pencil as a alternative

I have a product on my screen similar to the paper like, just a matte screen protection from amazon, was a fiver, 6x cheaper…. But i noticed my pencil tip had worn down to the point where my pencil stopped working, after what i can say was about 1 year of ‘light to medium’ use, so if you’re a heavy sturdier, maybe stock up on tips or get a tip cover etc if you want a matte screen protector.

But I want to be one hell of a nurse, when I finish. I'm taking my education in Denmark, but the fact that my education is in many cases a one way ticket to different countries is also a motivation. That's what studying can do, bring possibilities. No matter what you study, it can truly open doors for us.

I really don't understand the hype around the Kanken backpacks. Having padded straps is the bare minimum for a backpack... My North Face Vault may look boring, but it's much more comfortable (and comes with 2 bottle holders) than a Kanken and much more fairly priced for a student budget. I also travel with it, it's a bomb ass backpack. AND it's waterproof 😏

I've always loved learning and could honestly spend the rest of my life hunkered away filling my brain with new information about the world around me. I love nearly every subject and consume a near obsessive amount of books/media on various subjects (often at my own detriment when I very well should focus my attention on more important matters haha). Because of this, I'm studying to be a doctor, since it is a field in which you never stop learning (and requires a lot of schooling which I also enjoy). As a music student, the iPad pro 12.9 is a big game changer compared to the regular iPad. It’s way too small the read sheet music and for me it is very important to have a big screen, so that I can see every note, every dynamic, every little articulation (especially the staccato). The rest can be achieved with a regular iPad, but if you need to see a full page of scores from a distance, while you play your instrument, it is hard to read sheet music from the regular iPad. If the regular iPad had a big screen, I’d be buying it, but it’s simply not the case.
So for music students the IPad Pro 12.9 is not overhyped, I just think it’s overpriced.
P.s. Sorry for my English, it’s not my first language 😅

I also tend to only buy Kipling bags, which last years and are washable, unlike kanken's. I've got a weekend Kipling bag I've had for years and its like new, plus an across the body one, they also have lots of pockets and are cheaper than Kanken.

About Muji: Something most people don't know and I've also only recently heard of is that Muji uses Xinjiang cotton, produced through the forced labour of the Muslim Uyghur population of the Chinese province of Xinjiang .
By buying products from Muji, and especially cotton products, this practice is supported and continues. Personally, I have stopped buying from Muji because I want to oppose the genocide of the Uyghur population. Most people I've talked to hadn't known about this, so I thought it'd be worthwhile to share so everyone can form their own opinion and position.

I bought an iPad three years and the Apple Pencil last year and these two products together work bomb. That of course if you are going to use it a lot. If you buy the pen but you just watch UA-cam/play games then it doesn’t make sense. For me personally this combo is great as I use everyday my iPad to take notes at university and the pen lasts so long! I was genuinely surprised at how fast it charges! And for me it’s worth it just for the fact itself that it’s responsive to pressure, which helps when I draw on procreate. I bought a yellow kanken but it was a fail for me, it wasn’t bad but the color choice was unfortunate as it gets dirty very easily.
Last but not least, I bought a screen protector that is also paper - like for way cheaper and while I love Tombow pens I also found good cheaper dupes

The brand Seventeen of London has dupe of the kanken bag that is maybe $40. It's waterproof, a good size, has a padded laptop pouch, and inside pockets. It's hard to say how well it holds up over time because I bought mine in October 2019, so it hasn't gotten as much use as it usually would have because I've been online almost exclusively since March 2020. However, I have used it for travel as well as some long days outside (hikes, theme parks), and it has held up well through all of that. I don't know much about the brand (if it is sustainable, ethically sourced etc), so that might be a draw back for anyone looking specifically for those qualities, but again I don't know for sure that they aren't sustainable.

I really was thinking about buying the remarkable but the main problem is that its not only just the expensive main price, but also the fact that you have to SUBSCRIBE and pay monthly to have all the features that the device offers. It means, not only it's expensive at first, but also you simply never stop paying to use it!!!! Maybe it's more useful for people who can actually afford it, not like most of students. I mean if I had a great job in which reading PDFs is so important and I have a lot of paper work to do I would pay the price I guess... But in my case -i study architecture-, maybe its not that great.
Also, does anyone recommend having an iPad if my notebook is windows? Im worried about compatibilities...
