The best way to prevent socialism, communism or anything of the kind, is to have no parties at all. All things should be decided democratically, without representatives to subvert the people's will. Power should be splitted as much as possible so no one can take power and install communism. The banking institutions, army, even large corporations have already been infiltrated and are beyond saving: they should be abolished. Truly, it is the only way to prevent socialism ;)

Half of the countries in the West tried some form of Prohibition after or even during WWI. The US was by no means exceptional in this instance.
