My favorite thing about this is that Dark Lord Mina AU is pretty plausible. They arrived at the eclipse at the same time after all, it could have just as easily been her
So as far as I can understand -Back Dashing is the key to become the dark lord. If you can back dash, you can become the dark lord. Dario tried this before with his cult, but he failed (because he can’t backdash, only teleport) -In this instance, Mina wasn’t actually herself, but instead a “doppelganger” was possessing her body, who Soma was protecting, probably trying to find a way to get the doppelganger out (hence the “I’m sorry, Mina”) -Dmitrii was working with Arikado to destroy the Dark Lord, but upon finding out Arikado wanted the power for himself, he plotted with Soma to use himself as bait to draw out the power of the Dark Lord to stop it. Which is why he had Soma injure him, so that the doppelganger would take HIS body instead when Celia shot Doppelganger-Mina. Soma could kill the Doppelganger possessing his body. (This is why he immediately knew it was a Doppelganger as soon as he took the power, because he IS Doppelganger) -Arikado basically spent the entire game fighting for the spot of Dark Lord and failed, but he DID try and help Soma kill Doppelganger-Dmitrii. -Unfortunately after Soma kills Doppelganger-Dmitrii he decides that HE should get to be the Dark Lord. And nobody’s there to stop him, so that’s that. -The Mina in the ending isn’t the “real Mina”, it’s just her after she recovered and has control over herself again after Celia shot her and got the doppelganger to flee her body. Also, everyone becomes shopkeepers. thats how i see it at least
Dimitri sacrificed himself and celia to prevent soma from becoming the dark lord. But to no avail because soma is a clever businessman and convinced everyone to start a shop as he gained ultimate power. Once soma became the darklord everyone vowed to serve him with reasonable prices at there shop, while alucard was sad he was useless and couldn't become the dark lord, settled to be a humble merchant for the darklord. After all of this drama and betrayal, julius mode was unlocked setting up a potential sequel. Castlevania Merchant requiem of innocent sorrow 25%off, coming in 2036
Here's my own take on the plot (spoilers below): As far as I can tell, what's going on here is that everyone knows there's a Doppelganger among us who's trying to become the dark lord Back Dash, but nobody has the slightest idea which one of them it is and they're attempting (and failing) to work together to figure it out. This results in Soma fighting and slaying Dmitrii and Dario along the way, since they each thought the other could have been the Doppelganger. In the garden cutscene, it is revealed that the Doppelganger was Mina the whole time! Soma tries to absorb the demonic souls that grant the powers of the Back Dash to get it before Doppelganger, but Doppelganger (now mimicking Dmitrii) pulls a reverso and sucks those souls up instead before running away with Celia in hot pursuit. Soma tracks it down to the Abyss where Celia has just caught up with it, only to get slain by the Doppelganger, which uses its power to transform into Menace to slay Soma, the only threat remaining to its ascension to the Back Dash. Soma triumphs and inherits the mantle of the dark lord Back Dash by default. With the abberant threat eliminated, things can now go back to business as usual with the gang at Club Castlevania - business as usual being the oppression and suffering of humanity, of course :D
The best part about the ending is that it reveals that the true Mina is like Soma's version of Celia. She draws out souls for the true dark lord, Soma, to use! It's the usual good ending just where all the other petty little humans will die! Wonderful!
So, to recap: Soma secretly wanted to become a dark lord, and Mina has been assisting him in his ambitions. Celia wanted to use the story of the dark lord candidates to push her new magazine "UMA News", and followed Dmitrii, believing him to be a candidate. But Dmitrii wanted to stop Soma from becoming the next dark lord, and tried to seal him using his own soul, which failed, instead corrupting him and turning him into a dark lord candidate when he took over Mina, who was a Doppelganger the whole time. Dario wasn't interested in any of this, he just wanted to compare his power to Soma, leaving his cult behind that may have been an elaborate pyramid scheme based on how interested Dario was about pitching sales to people out of nowhere. Meanwhile, Yoko seems to be in a love-hate relationship with Soma, who openly hates her, but tries to reconcile. She receives the unflattering title "heartless wench" from him, and tries to slander Julius, who just seems a bit confused overall, and eventually has to admit that he's become too old for the salesman business. Hammer serves as Soma's right hand, but doesn't try very hard, only giving him a few pointers on how to sell effectively, but mostly stating the obvious. And Arikado goes through his angst phase because nobody takes him seriously, so he tries to pose as dark lord without any skills to back it up, eventually admitting to himself that he doesn't belong in the conflict. "Evil" Dmitrii tries to force Soma into becoming a dark lord, but he pushes back with his blossoming dream of becoming a salesman. However, it's not enough, and at the end, Soma vows to end the human race as the reincarnation of the true dark lord, Back Dash, supported by Mina, the true mastermind behind his re-awakening. What a rollercoaster. And people think Game of Thrones has complexity.
What I _think_ happened is that Dmitrii, realizing that there were too many Dark Lord candidates and that he didn't have the power to stop them all on his own, decided to entrust Soma with the task, and allowed himself to be struck down so that Soma would absorb his soul, whereby his inherent goodness would be able to temper and tame the evil in Soma's spirit-sort of like Yugi and the Pharaoh, only with the roles reversed. That's why after absorbing Dmitrii, Soma seems to come off as more heroic for a while. Unfortunately, when Celia shot the fake Mina and (inadvertently?) caused Soma's darkness to awaken, the ploy backfired and started corrupting Dmitrii instead. He fled to the Doppelganger's body in desperation, but it was too late: he had already been driven evil and partly insane by the experience. With no heroes remaining, the Dark Lord's return was inevitable... But this really was a good ending, because the presence of an absolute evil means that God can continue to be good. That's why Mina is so happy in the last scene.
I really love the dialogue randomizer. It's had some of the greatest moments. Especially an early version where Arikado yelled at me then ran off completely locking the game up.
"Don't try to track down Celia."
"Uh, no."
This is exactly what I needed this morning. Thank you Jupe.
That was peak storytelling, we can finally stop playing Castlevania for the gameplay.

"Hi Soma"
"Hi Soma"
"JULIUS MODE has been unlocked!" was peak comedic timing
Dawn of Sorrow except the Skull is COMPLETELY Creaking
I didn't immediately realize it was a randomizer so I was confusingly trying to figure out what was going on the first minutes
Dimitri sacrificed himself and celia to prevent soma from becoming the dark lord. It's like everybody just drank stroke juice for breakfast, even the narrator in the beginning
34:45 "Well, I get it now... actually I don't."
All of us right now.
Soma wanted to know Arikado's identity but he quickly changed the topic to JULIUS MODE
I wasn't expecting that 🤣
Oh god I haven't laughed that hard in a while. The last 5 minutes were beautiful.
"seal come in" now that your rose is in bloom
Halfway through the video and I am quite liking the "Soma & Dmitrii versus everybody else" plotline that's shaping up so far
"you waved hi to me" *fire fwoosh
I LOVE your commentary on dialogue randos. I’d love to see you run them more often.
Your dawn runs are so relaxing
Fastest Invincible title drop to date
God I legitimately love these videos so much! Arikado constantly trying to make "Hate me!" happen had me in stitches.
This is the earliest I've ever been and ever will be.
Damn, Arikado was really itching for Julius gameplay.
Castlevania: Dawn of Shopkeepers
Here's my own take on the plot (spoilers below):

You have to do more, I'm kinda interested in these
21:04 my father is a cowboy
So it's google translated and randomized!
18:10 mushussu
Now I need a legacy of the back dash game 😂
Dialogue rando is how English sounds to Japanese people.
Wait.... How was the randomized story actually better than the real story 😂
Hey this is the first Super Thanks I've gotten, really glad you enjoyed the video!
The characters realizing the true way to stop the power of the almighty back dash is simply with capitalism. Best lore ever
The best part about the ending is that it reveals that the true Mina is like Soma's version of Celia. She draws out souls for the true dark lord, Soma, to use! It's the usual good ending just where all the other petty little humans will die! Wonderful!
Very interesting
I think Mina might be a dracula

This got me wondering if someone could mod a Mina mode for aria or dawn
I feel like the thing I actually learned is that Hammer has too many lines and is disproportionately represented in the dialogue randomizer.
Julius and Soma's love story took a very odd turn
Can you please do a Google Translate version of Symphony of The Night?
Speaking in third person is somewhat common in japanese depending on the speaker. Maybe translate just latched on to that.
The playthrough where every female wants to be come the dark lord.
why didn't you kill that flame demon from the mirror behind Dario?
🏰🧛🏻♂️♡
That jumping noise is very ridiculous what you are doing
I really love the dialogue randomizer. It's had some of the greatest moments. Especially an early version where Arikado yelled at me then ran off completely locking the game up.
