While the Memphis Grizzlies may be enduring a difficult season this year, there was a time where they were one of if not the most feared team in the NBA. They boasted one of the toughest and most skilled groundouts in the NBA with Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph. While their backcourt of Mike Conley and Tony Allen would terrorize the guards and wings of other teams. This Grizzlies teams was one of the most iconic of the 2010s and lived by a simple mantra, Grit and Grind…

As a depreessed Grizz fan, Synthetic Sports dropping a 1h 20 plus minute vid on us is the highlight of our season
Let's rejoice
We’ll be back next season
And the Gasol Jersey Retirement 😂
Relax y'all gon be back next season and this time a title contender
Thought y’all were fine in west?
As someone who didn’t gain an appreciation for basketball until Covid, I appreciate getting these retrospectives on team eras that i am clueless about.
Idk how old you are but that actually cool as shit you have SO MUCH to learn bro enjoy 🙏🏽
If you want the NBA UA-cam channel has full length classic games like 75 of them where you can watch full games and they cut out the commercials
This is how I feel about about Football and Baseball. There are some great documentarians on UA-cam. Synthetic Sports is one of them for sure!
@@spliffsforbreakfastbaseball especially. Baseball Doesn’t Exist and Made the Cut are two baseball youtubers i watch every time they put out a video. and the amount of work that they put in each video shows, it’s getting me back into paying attention to baseball again. i recommend watching those two when you can!
Same with me. I learned 77 years of NBA stuff in the span of 2 years.
The Grit and Grind Grizzlies is special because by all means, this team feels like they threw together some of the best 2nd and 3rd championship options on a single roster and said “show us that dog in you” and they did
This team was dawg mentality personified
if the 2000s pistons and the 2000s spurs had a baby it would be this team.
I love this comparison
this is spot on
Spot on
😂😂😂
Imagine this Grizzlies team in the mid 2000s.
The fact that these Grizzlies were as competitive as they were for a pretty long time despite the ridiculous amount of boneheaded draft picks, trades, and signings by their front office is kind of impressive. If they even got half of those mistakes right, it's not far fetched to suggest that they would've at least made it to the Finals once.
I mean they get Kawhi(and alternate version Kawhi finds a way to shoot) and Harden like they might honestly be a dynasty. Gasol, Zbo, Kawhi, Conley, Harden would win 2 chips at least as a 2000s team.
it's why drafting is so important, especially for a team that is not in a popular area
Xavier Henry, Tony Wroten, Jarrell Martin, etc. Bruh didn’t we trade a 1st for freakin CASH CONSIDERATIONS?
One hour and 20 minute video from synthetic sports and it's about the grit and grind Grizzlies?
Let's Go
As a grizzlies fan who lived in Memphis, the city got behind this team so quickly, they embodied the toughness of Memphis and it was amazing to see, a shame they never got a ring
We need a 2011 Bulls retrospective
YES
Why? You had a good guard for 2 years that didn’t deserve to win the mvp he got, and he was never an all nba player again. Get over D Rose dude, I’m a pistons fan and yall need to move on. He has been a better player after the bulls than he ever was trying to lead a team. Every franchise has that one player that COULDVE made the difference. Yall already had MJ I don’t wanna hear no crybaby bulls fan
@@noonookinz4560 If DRose didn't 'deserve to win the MVP he got' in 2011 the only acceptable alternative answer is Dwight Howard
@@chrisuncleahmadfor real, people don’t stop and consider how James had 2 top 10 players, one being an mvp candidate as well but still finished lower than an offensively inept bulls team with their starting lineup dealing with injuries all year. Did I mention he was 22 yos?
@@Quentinthemudkip As I said, if not DRose, then Dwight would have been a perfectly fine MVP in 2011
I’m from Memphis and used to go to these games I’m so glad this team will always be remembered by true nba fans
The Redemption of Zach Randolph . Best comeback story after many off court issues.
Fellow OKC fan here. I used to hate seeing them in the playoffs almost every year, but those were some good and thrilling series nonetheless.
I can’t believe I never realized how much of a defensive headache Memphis was for other teams as a kid
Holy shit i didn't realize how many insane playoff series they had
Sonsitant every year and those series were amazing
Sat and ready. Love you guys hour long videos
Same
People forget how good Gasol was. If Lebron had Gasol in Cleveland for his first stint he is winning multiple rings.
Both Gasoline brothers were pretty damn good but Pau had more success for certain.
Gasol not gasoline sorry autocorrect does NOT like foreign players
MY GRIZZLIS MENTIONED
YES
This era of the Grizzlies was great and they rlly had that grit and grind identity which definitely was a change from the pace and space teams
As a Grizzlies fan, thanks for this video to tide me over until draft season.
Not even a grizzlies fan but this team was one of my all time favorites. I remember how all the attention used to be on teams with high profile stars like the thunder clippers and spurs, but this Memphis team used to beat their asses consistently, and did it with such pride, loved seeing that, and that’s what the nba is missing today. Great video as always and about time there was a video like this on the grit and grind grizzlies
Yao Ming Rockets Retrospective I NEED IT
As a young teenager growing up with season tickets during the Grit N Grind era this was so refreshing to watch and reminisce. I don’t think my father and I would have the relationship we have today if it wasn’t for these teams. 🐻Ⓜ️
Even though I’ve grown up on the East coast I watched a lot of West coast ball growing up because I usually put games on before bed and fell asleep to games, and the West games were usually on at like 8-12 here. SAS, OKC, LAC, and GSW were definitely the A side of the matchup that I was tuning in for but I always enjoyed them going against the Grizzlies.
Listening to the end scores of these games brings me joy…it took 3 overtimes to get 130 points…you can do that now with 7:36 left in the 4th quarter
I Iove all of your videos, especially your long ones. Watched the "Downfall of the Blazers" Video easelly six or seven times. I just love your interaction with each other, it just feels like a normal conversation instead of reading of some script, thats why this channel is so great. And i love both your voices. My favorite NBA Channel, please keep going!❤
Sorry for my atrocious english and greetings from Munich in Germany!
This is so surreal. Im almost 30, recently truly dived into the NBA as a lifelong Blazers fan-ish, getting heavy into this channel especially after the big Dame video. My wife grew up near memphis and her family are die hard grizzlies fans, and by chance the 1 NBA game i drag my wife to while visiting her family is Marc Gasol's jersey retirement, and you guys drop this banger.
I was at game 3 against San Antonio. One of the greatest experiences of my life.
I started watching NBA back in the 2013-14 season (like at the start of it) and by the end of it, Grit and Grind Grizzles caught my attention. Every game they played or in every playoffs series they would play, it was for me exciting to watch how one of THE BEST defensive teams played the game. This era of Grizzles made me a fan of them and the whole game overall. Even today I throw some remarks to my friends on how THIS team was just super good overall. (like "back in my day this team was...")
(Now time to watch the video)
You guys make these long form videos feel like 15 minutes
31:19 you know it’s out of hand when Malachi Flynn is getting 50 points.
This team was the perfect mirror of the rockets and warriors at the time, a kind of throwback to the older days during the hight of three chucking and iso scoring(not calling Steph a three chucker)
Yes an hour video! Fricking love y’all’s videos!
Love the early post. Thanks you two!
The grit and grind era was amazing to watch. Especially those battles with the Lob City Clippers.
Love your retrospective, keep making vids like this
Love these videos
YESSSS!!! I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!
Bro ask for it and they gave us a whole movie😂
Grizzlies getting swept in 2013 hunts me still today, and I’m not even a Memphis fan. That team deserved at least one Finals appearance.
Grit and Grind made me a Grizzlies fan and I miss it soo much even though it was slow as hell😂
This is as good a recap of the Grit n Grind and Core Four era as any I've seen or read. Signed: a native Memphian and huge Grizz fan. Well done, guys!
I have lived the Grizzles ever since this era. They are my 3rd favorite team in the NBA.
Fire vid please make more like this favorite/ best nba channel these style of videos you guys chemistry man everything about your channel rocks
This video really made me happy, first because that grit and grind era finally got the respect they deserved. I’m from Tennessee and I was in the military around that time so I was repping the grizzlies hard!! That squad did some amazing things together and for them to stay together that long was an amazing thing to see. I really wanted us to win one but we wasn’t beating that San Antonio team 😅
This is the team that made me fall in love with basketball and my hometown
Just thank you, I didn't know how much I wanted this video
This is why I love your stuff
Your long videos are the Best You got!
Y’all dropping this the day before Marcs jersey retirement was incredible planning. Life long grizz fan that loves y’all’s content!
Definitely needed this video as a Grizz fan
I love these long videos
love the long videos hope for more... plus this chanel is super undrated hope you guys get more subs
love you guys ❤
Finally!
The most underrated channel got a sponser. About time!
Great video guys! Please do a video on the history of load management!
love the longer vid
hell yeah a retrospective!
The grit and grind grizzlies of the 2010s are the equivalent of the going to work pistons of the 2000s minus the title. Love watching the physicallity and togetherness of that team.
These boys dropped a whole movie 😭
(Not complaining tho)
Memphis has always been my second home outside Chicago. This era was so great and the Grizzlies truly embodied what it meant to be a dog.
It hurts even more that OKC stole the Grizzlies’ _”Thunder”_ and just immediately lost it to the Warriors
I’ve been waiting on this
AN HOUR VIDEO dis bout to go HARDDDDD
Smashin down on dese wings while watchin this😂‼️ perfect timing
Only 23 minutes in already an awesome video as usual
ayeee a retrospective!!!
Begging you guys for more long videos
Best NBA channel rn easily
I love your videos can you guys make a long video about the d ros bulls thanks
goated content
all those games going to overtime is crazy
We need more longer videos ❤
I hope I dont ever go from "Master class to Disaster class"
I like these retrospective vids as a Mavs fan I need a vid on them
needed this now more than ever as a depressed grizz fan
The grind house.
YAY RETROSPECTIVE!!! would looooove a 2011 bulls vid one of these days
Love the long video please do one on my miami heat you guys are are 🔥
Let’s go I was going to comment if you can do a forgotten team on them but we got 1 nd 20 min video 🥳
Love these retrospective videos! As a San Antonio native, I'd love to see you two cover the San Antonio big three era 😁
Boring Franchise. Nothing worthwhile or entertaining to cover
If the shorts were yellow, and the waistband detail was green, those unis are 🔥
I still have a Pau Gasol grizzlies card from back in the day. Didn't really follow the NBA as a kid so imagine my surprise when I find out years later he went on to play for the Lakers and became a household name, thought he had been with them longer than the stay he had in reality.
As a lifelong Memphian/ Grizz fan, this was the best video i could’ve possibly woken up to during this Godforsaken season.
Crazy that the blazers picked who’s considered the biggest bust of all time while the grizzlies grabbed their best player of all time and they were teammates which makes it that much freakier
Those baby blue Alternates they wore were so fresh
I do want to push back on the Pau Gasol not being the worst trade in Grizzlies history, since if they had any idea Marc Gasol would be good they wouldn't be picking Hasheem Thabeet second.
The only thing that is close to as bad is giving up their 2003 1st round pick for old Otis Thorpe (They're lucky that Detroit then picked Darko).
Hell yeah guys got yourselves a sponsor
Thank you. 🙌🍺
As a Thunder fan, i hated this team but damnit you had to respect them.
The timing of this video is crazy! Marc Gasol’s jersey got retired a day later! 😂
i need y’all to put these videos in podcast form on spotify or any podcasting app 😭
The multiple Reggie Evans mentions is so funny to me bc I just realized I'm working with his daughter 😂
Mike Conley was absolutely a dawg💯‼️
Synthetic sports the movie lol let’s goooo
People actually giving my Grizzlies their props🤧
Wow a whole hour of content dedicated to the Grizzlies 🙂
FRESH BANGER ALERT OH MY GOD
It’s ridiculous how much better the Spurs got between 2011 and 2013 even though their core was older.
An hour and a half video, letsgo. Makes sense to get a sponsor for it.
GOATED
Wake up babe a Synthetic Sports video just dropped
sick
came out today that that trade involving OJ Mayo that didnt end up working out would have sent him and picks for ray allen. Trade was fully accepted by both teams, but for whateve reason fell apart at the deadline
