  • Paso A Paso (step by step). . . LIFE IS A DANCE! 💃🏽 Felicidades, participantes de Paso a Paso!
Originally slated for the spring of 2020, KDA is proud to have finally launched and completed Paso A Paso in the spring of 2023!
Paso A Paso was a FREE after-school confidence-building program developed by KDA Board Member, Diana Delgadillo, who was passionate about creating a system of support of sisterhood for Kern County high school girls.
Paso A Paso empowered girls by teaching them that life is a dance and it is necessary to learn the right steps to achieve success. Girls utilized dance to create a support system of sisterhood while becoming empowered through life skills workshops.
    GOALS:
    -Confidence building
    -Cultural awareness
    -Life-skills training
    -Learning a new dance
    -Self love
    -Independence
    -Sisterhood
    -Guidance for success
Paso A Paso featured female leaders teaching specific life skills including resume writing and interview training, STEM subjects focused on auto repair and mechanics, sound financial practices like building a budget, monitoring credit, and mitigating financial scams, and promoting positive mindfulness and health practices.
Through movement and dance, Paso A Paso also inspired confidence and cultural acceptance as the participants learned to express themselves through Bachata, taught by Latin dance professional, Karina Villarreal. Thank you, Karina!
Initial results show that Paso was a SUCCESS with 80% of Paso participants reporting that they had low confidence at the beginning of the program compared to 60% of girls reporting an increase in confidence and stating they feel very confident in themselves after completing the Paso program!
Congratulation to the Paso A Paso participants who successfully completed in the program! We see you. We believe in you. And, we are so PROUD OF YOU!
A special thank you to all of the incredible volunteers, sponsors, and donors that helped to make Paso A Paso a reality including our guest speakers and Paso Program Director, Diana Delgadillo.
Bravo to KDA Filmmaker, Adam Welch, for bringing Paso A Paso to life through his captivating storytelling and videography.
Stay tuned for the full Paso A Paso final report released this winter!
