Philip Bailey’s voice gives you chills every time. Their “Gratitude” live album came out in 1975 and I literally wore it out as a 10 year-old! They were the soundtrack to my childhood.
Thanks Harri for shining a light on this incredible band. If this is 1975 then this is the tour that I saw them on in Sacramento, California. Not only were they incredible vocally and musically they were one of the first r&b bands to have a great stage show. The drummer went up in the air and spun around and the bassist flew through the air on some wires. It was almost as good as any Pink Floyd stage show. This song was a huge hit, at least in my neighborhood.
Absolutely love Earth Wind and Fire!!❤ As a matter of fact I just played one of their albums a few days ago. And the singer from The Stylistics you were trying to think of is Russell Thompkins. He certainly had a great falsetto! Thanks for the reaction Harri!
Yes, Philip Bailey is probably the greatest falsetto singer of all time in terms of his power, range, control and upkeep because he's STILL a great falsetto singer 50 years later.
I've been an E.W.F. fan since the early 70s. Never knew about Devotion until I got the album. It blew me away. The song never got as much play as it should have.To me it's one of their best songs.
The first Earth Wind and Fire album I bought was Gratitude. That album featured "Devotion" (live). I was old enough to know that Earth Wind and Fire made songs that I like. Still, I wasn't ready for what I had when I got home and played it. That whole double album is wonderful music. I know many say that "Reasons" is their favorite, but it's "Devotion" for me. Earth Wind and Fire's vocals are 'heavenly'. Ramsey Lewis had EW&F's vocals on his "Sun Goddess". Take a good look at that audience. The expressions on their faces look like they are in bliss, Harri.
Another song that's up there with Devotion is The Commodors, " Sweet Love". That's another song that never got enough play. It's a great song, you should definitely play it.
Their vocal blending is divine, such purity of sound. Agree about those notes, like ringing a bell and to hold it like that. The sparkly clothes, silver, gold etc were the thing then, quite normal 😂
A friend of mine went to seeSanana in 1975 in Manchester England the next night I saw him and asked about the gig and he said Santana is Santana but I want to talk about The support band they are not known over here but they were amazing I said what were they called he said Earth windand fire
Love me some Earth Wind and Fire, a group that can sing live and those harmonies, can't get enough. Devotion was a hit, it wasn't this slow, definitely a faster clip, you should take a listen to the studio version. Thanks Harri❤️👍
Performances from the Midnight Special are historic, and I'm so glad they were preserved for us all. Earth, Wind & Fire were in a class by themselves. "Devotion" was a minor hit from the year before (1974), the follow up release to "Mighty Mighty."
Phil Perry sings mostly in mixed voice. He does falsetto on the super high notes but most of that stuff is chest and mixed voice coming from Phil Perry. YES. His natural range was that crazy. Philip Bailey sings mostly falsetto

Philip Bailey performed in my hometown Apeldoorn some 30 years ago. I don’t know how I figured out in which hotel he stayed, but I went to the hotel the next morning to get his autograph and he was sitting in the car when I arrived. I will tell you that this wasn’t the best hotel in town. Not bad, but IMO not worthy of a star like Philip Bailey.
The first concert I ever went to was Earth, Wind, and Fire in 1978. I was 12 and my older brother got stood up by his date, and instead of being bitter he took me. It was AMAZING. The production value was off the charts. They were lowered onto the stage in a freaking spaceship. But it was the unique music and those fantastic voices that made me a hardcore fan forever. Serpentine Fire will put me in a good mood no matter what.
UA-cam keeps deleting posts, apparently when i reply to my replies or when i include a link that you never get to see like Philip Bailey and Phil Collins singing Easy Lover
@@iandowney4630 it's probably an anti-hacker law that if you include weird looking things like links they dont take chances and dump my comment in the digital dustbin
so let's say i post something and 1 minute later i try to modify the post, and a copy of my initial post didn't spread to the cloud on which i'm trying to re-work it, it just doesn't work, that's my second hypothesis and i'll charge you a best-buddy price for your call just kidding

🥰🤩😍😇
E.W.F. Amazing as always. Love their pure sounds since I first heard them. "SEPTEMBER". Wonderful memories again. Thank you.
Devotion was one of there, biggest and most popular hits
Blessed the children
NO better live performance anywhere. Sooooo love Philip Bailey!
Hey, that would be a great song review series: Great Falsettos in Modern Music!
Wow! He held that note from Monday to Wednesday!!Fantastic choice! Wonderful vocals! Thanks Harri and Brandon 🌺✌️
I recommend checking out “Summer Moved On” by a-ha. Moeten Harket holds a high note very long. It’s not a record, but it’s extremely long.
Philip Bailey was par-excellence, and in my opinion the greatest falsetto to ever sing the range.
He's the greatest falsetto ever
By far my favorite band and Philip belongs in the conversation of falsetto singers, but he does have some great company in a few different genres.
Falsettos, Eddie Kendricks of the Temptations, and Russel Tompkins Jr. of the Stylistics back in the day. No one's quite like Phillip Bailey.
Absolutely love Earth Wind and Fire!!❤ As a matter of fact I just played one of their albums a few days ago. And the singer from The Stylistics you were trying to think of is Russell Thompkins. He certainly had a great falsetto! Thanks for the reaction Harri!
I always loved the Stylistics! They had so many great songs. So much fantastic soul music back then ❤
@@iandowney4630 Yes, they certainly did!
Let's not forget that beautiful organ keeping the pace of the song

I agree 100% on both your points, Philip Bailey's voice, and Verdine's bass, totally awesome!
Another great falcetto Queen with Freddie Mercury Cool Cat.
Their vocal blending is divine, such purity of sound. Agree about those notes, like ringing a bell and to hold it like that. The sparkly clothes, silver, gold etc were the thing then, quite normal 😂
Wow, they are so young here!
It's incredible how fast those years went by.
It brings me back to the day I bought and discovered this album Gratitude. Philip Bailey's voice is unforgetable. 🎶💜🎶

You look like Maurice White's doppelganger
Love EWF!! FANTASTIC ❤❤❤
Pendergrass with Harold Melvin was great
He’s one of my favorites-especially Wake Up Everybody and The Love I Lost ❤❤
phillip bailey four octave vocal range !
Love me some Earth Wind and Fire, a group that can sing live and those harmonies, can't get enough.
Devotion was a hit, it wasn't this slow, definitely a faster clip, you should take a listen to the studio version.
Thanks Harri❤️👍
I had heard EW &F before the “Gratitude“ album, but that’s the one that made me fall in love with them ❤️ May I suggest “Sun Goddess “ 😌

That was the show to watch if you wanted to see great performances…
Hi Mr. Harri, Close, his name is Verdine White.. U are welcome.. I will add it to your Bill.. ☺ ♠Mr.G..
😂🤣😂😂😂😂
Al Green, underestimated and forgotten
I have another request in for a great r&b falsetto. William Hart and the delfonics
NOBODY who knows music could underestimate Al Green. One of the greatest ✌🏾
Not forgotten by me! But I totally agree that he is under appreciated!🌸
@@HarriBestReactions yes!!!!
People!people! Earth Wind and Fire are jazz and Classical trained, Musicians
Also Eddie Kendricks Temptations.
I love Keep On Truckin’ which, of course, was released by him after he left the Temptations.
Wait, great falsettos in music. Dude, you forgot Robert Plant!
Also Barry Gibb!
Now you're talking
Thank you for the heart, it is appreciated!
I'm a pretty big man but ewf music can make u emotional
There's another Phil that can compete with Philip Bailey.
Phil Perry; not as well known, but worth listening to his vocal talent.
Phil Perry sings mostly in mixed voice. He does falsetto on the super high notes but most of that stuff is chest and mixed voice coming from Phil Perry. YES. His natural range was that crazy. Philip Bailey sings mostly falsetto
On your face, imagination, and now devotion. That's three unheard EW&F songs I've delivered to you Harri. I enjoy giving you gems.
Hahahaha
Also with E.W.F. The Commodors and their Tribute to MARVIN, JACKIE, and later MICHEAL JACKSON. "NIGHT SHIFT". GREATEST SOUNDS AND TEARS.
Bassist is Verdeen White
I love this track. Absolutely beautiful. P.S. I've always thought that Harri kinda reminded me of the great Maurice White.
I get that allllllllll the time 😂🤣😂
Don't forget about Frankie Valli
Not even close to Mr. Bailey.
Agreeded

Great soul music! Check out September if you haven't already - just fantastic music and guaranteed to get virtually anyone moving #earthwindandfire
No argument. He's the best in my opinion.

Curtis Mayfield and Eddie Kendricks (The Temptations) are as good or better.
It's NOT a competition!

what i like is they' seem to have good relations so it's really a common mood. Maybe singing choirs helped them staying like that
there's another singer maybe solo named Bailey i think ... oh it IS Philip. with Phil Collins doing Easy Lover
You have to check out phil collins and Philip bailey song easy lover another great song
If you wanna hear a good falsettos for the blues, you should check out Led Zeppelin, Black Dog, and since I’ve been loving you, etc.

One of many of my favorite groups. Got them on my playlists on Spotify.
Takes me back, Harri. Thank you!
