      Mike Mulnix doesnt take much to keep these oldies running. Theyre rock solid as long as you stay ontop of regular maintainance, they’ll keep running long after were gone 😆 almost done refurbishing mine. Only other thing ill dois a swap to a trail tech vapor speedo as the stock guage have recently been playing up.

      @@PAbrera1 mine was severely neglected, even the overflow for coolant is missing, the black box for the engine breather is missing, someone put a ktm rear wheel on it. Broken shift lever, no lights or turn signals, bald tires, about 100 yards of cut and spliced wires and the cam tensioner was so loose I thought it was knocking and when you think that's all the forks are leaking and the seat was ripped lol. However I have been restoring everything with new.

    Where did you get the fork dampener holding tool?

    So if I just want to change the oil i can stop at 3:50 of the video, empty the oil and put some new one in?

    • @PAbrera1
      @PAbrera1  3 роки тому +1

      There are 2 chambers that hold fork oil. Inside the damper rod and outside. You wont get it all out unless you tear down the whole fork, unfortunately.

      @@PAbrera1 Does those two oils circulate with each other? Or is the cartridge oil (inside the damper) separate from the fork slider oil? If the two are separate from each other, technically one could just change the fork slider oil while leaving the cartridge oil unchanged, no? Many mountain bike forks are like this, where the damper cartridge and its oil use one chamber, and the sliders use another oil. With mountain bike forks changing the slider oil is done much more frequently than the cartridge oil, hence one can "open" up the forks and change the slider oil without touching the damper cartridge.

      @@PAbrera1 Btw I did see your subsequent video where you reassemble the fork. That somewhat answered my question by showing that there are two separate instances of adding oil: first to the cartridge, secondly to the fork leg. However, still curious regarding the separation of those two areas, as it seems the damper cartridge has those two holes at the top that possibly let oil migrate back and forth between the two sections of the fork....

    I have a 2020 DRZ 400 SM,I want to lowered 3" how i can do it?

    • @PAbrera1
      @PAbrera1  3 роки тому +1

      Look for lowering links (dogbones). These can lower up to 2 inches, and you can crank down a bit on your preload on your shock spring collar to compress your shock spring for a bit more lowering at the cost of shorter over-all shock travel. I have not used these lowering links and cant vouch for how the lower rear will affect handling. Your bike will definitrly turn-in slower cause the steering angle will in-effect get slacker with the lower rear.

      @@boricuaenlacasa787 you can gain (or lose if you prefer to call it that) maybe 1-1.5 inch by raising the fork tubes in the triple clamps and also cranking down on fork preload adjustment close to maximum preload. I assume you may have already tried these? Popular wisdom says anything more significant in terms of trying to lower the front is going to affect the handling and suspension performance negatively. Good luck! Thanks for tuning in 😉
