Pete Townsend once stated “ Ray Davies should be Poet Laureate “.
    True

The fact that he's still playing to such a small crowd, which would have been when he first started out, but never forgot his roots...He played that room...what a legend...my love always, Ray...xxx

Something so original about the Kinks. Everything is just perfect in this performance.

Hope Ray relives his triumph every time he sings this-it was the summer of ‘66, Sunny Afternoon was #1 in the charts and England had just won the World Cup.

This song reminds me of shopping at Macy's with my mom for paisley shirts and wide wale cords... and don't forget the big belt. Young and innocent days.

Why do millions of people of all ages still listen to and revere the Beatles. The same can't be said about the kinks. Fool of fool. You must be tone deaf, and possess no real grasp of music. So twanging guitars and a few trendy lines impress you thick simpleton.

When you think about the genius of Ray Davies and the only thing that comes to mind is Lennon or McCartney, it shows two things: you have a personal problem with John and Paul, The Beatles are above any other band. Your comment is very unfair to Ray, John and Paul.

Davies was brilliant but didn’t match up to the sheer volume of genius of Lennon & McCartney.

I watched this when I was seventeen and fell absolutely in love with this man. I'm engaged to a musician now myself, and I am thirty-four, but this takes me back every time.

In the twenty-twenty hindsight orthodoxy of our Rock & Roll history textbooks, Ray Davies gets cited as the progenitor of the proto-punks. He loved the music that had found success before his, though, including the trad-jazz that offered his oldest sister the casual opportunity to enjoy a dance in the arms of a stranger, where she died the day she gave Ray his first guitar.
The trendy guitar bands like his kid brother's (not to mention John and Paul's - and Mick and Kieth's) quickly made that scene a thing of the past - along with the music hall sing-alongs his dad had loved. When success came to reward his cohort for their foresight and swagger, they never looked back. Ray did, though.
"Help me, help me, help me fade away..."

I agree. It looks like the 'younger' ones have just gotten off the bus expecting bingo, only to find one of the greatest singer/songwriters of all time has been booked instead. Well done the older bunch who know about music. 👍

The tax man's taken all my dough
And left me in my stately home
    Lazing on a sunny afternoon
And I can't sail my yacht
    He's taken everything I got
All I've got's this sunny afternoon
Save me, save me, save me from this squeeze
I gotta big fat mama trying to break me
And I love to live so pleasantly
    Live this life of luxury
    Lazing on a sunny afternoon
    In the summertime
    In the summertime
    In the summertime
My girlfriend's run off with my car
And gone back to her ma and pa
Telling tails of drunkenness and cruelty
    Now I'm sitting here
Sipping at my ice cold beer
    Lazing on a sunny afternoon
Help me, help me, help me sail away
Well give me two good reasons why I oughta stay
'Cause I love to live so pleasantly
    Live this life of luxury
    Lazing on a sunny afternoon
    In the summertime
    In the summertime
    In the summertime
Ah, save me, save me, save me from this squeeze
I gotta big fat mama trying to break me
And I love to live so pleasantly
    Live this life of luxury
    Lazing on a sunny afternoon
    In the summertime
    In the summertime
    In the summertime
    In the summertime

This is one of many 1963 - 1969 covers which will be on Haley Reinhart's new album, "Whats That Sound" to be released September 22nd. This as well as the Mamas and Papas' Words of Love will feature Scott Bradlee of Post Modern Jukebox on Piano.

Ray Davies should really stop with the panto " let's hear you at the back" audience participation stuff. It's annoying to everybody. Just play the songs...
