Hi everyone, I was not expecting this kind of reaction to the video, so thank you everyone who watched it. I will definitely be making more in this series. I have a few addendums to add, as I've learned some things from the comment section.
First of, I was being hyperbolic when talking about DCS players. I am, in fact, one of those losers with no life other than flying fake cartoon planes who thinks they're better than anyone else. The joke wasn't my best writing, but hey, it is what it is.
Also I show the F15E when refencing the mod dependencies, and its actually the F15C, which is much cheaper and much lower fidelity. I didn't do my homework well enough, I'll be sure to next time.
The screen isn't called an MFCTD, its a PCD, or Panoramic Cockpit Display. It's also 2 monitors side by side with no visible seam to the user, so it looks like one big one.
The EOTS is usually pronounced E-aughts, which in my opinion sounds dumb as fuck. I'm gonna make the A-T-A-T and at-at argument on that one. Also it's thermal only, no color vision.
If I have any other corrections to make they're be in a reply to this comment. Again, thank you for all the support guys.
There's a mobile game called Carrier Landing HD that's basically DCS for phones, and it has an F-35 in it. You should check it out.
This is a really cool idea for a series. Its like Ahoy's videos on weapons in games videos but for super niche bullshit. Im all for it. Glad it popped up in my suggestions
If i may have some criticism, saying things about a community that are not fully accurate and after backlash you pass it off as a joke does not seem very genuine. Making assumptions about a community in front of a audience can really hurt that community. still, liked your video very much.
Also I think theres a much more accurate F35 mod with an actual F35 Cockpit
Another thing to add: The Ace Combat F-35 can use the internal bays of you throw on the AIM120s. I literally never did that in any playthrough when I used it. So That's on me.

former Spy-1 Radar tech here. Phased array Radar as far as my understanding goes, is a bunch of tiny radars in an array that uses phase shifts to steer the wave front to wherever the radar wants to look. Each array element phase is slightly shifted to create constructive and destructive interference in a certain direction. Thus, there is no need for the antenna to physically move. Some advantages over standard radar other than no moving parts is the ability to simultaneously track multiple targets at once without having to wait for a radar sweep. It can track different targets and search with different waveforms and search patterns depending on the environment, and it's essentially looking everywhere all at once sort of. Still has a duty cycle but doesn't have to wait a few seconds for an antenna to spin around. Also very redundant. You can loose a few antenna elements and still operate with only a slight degradation in performance.
@@tripwire3992 lmao
@@tripwire3992it depends on the aircraft you are trying to detect, the wether, and the distans and rotation of the aircraft. It depends on more then this but that is a couple of factors
@@tripwire3992 MAXIMUM POWER!
Yep, that was essentially the explanation that I saw for such in my electromagnetics class for electrical engineering
there is still an advantage to having a moving antena since by using destructive and constructive interference the radar waves going sideways are weaker than the ones going straight, the grippen E has a moving AESA.
35 mech here;
The display is called the PCD (Panoramic Cockpit Display) it is actually 2 screens with no bezel in the center dividing it
The EOTS, to make things short because everyone including the engineers at LM like to use acronyms that can be announced, is pronounced “E-AUGHTS”
We cant see color out of the EOTS or DAS since its only black hot or white hot thermal
And yes it can dogfight, the B is not the best option for this however
@@FatherExo thank you for the clarifications :)
The F-35A is a 9g fighter and the B a 7g right? I’m not sure about the C but yeah the F35 whips.
@@DefaultProphetC would be 7g as well due to the folding wings, the A is the only 9G one
@@ThePrimordialArchon thanks!
Did you run this post past the CO before you put it up mate?
How the fuck was Ace Combat able to spit out lots of Sukhoi Flanker variants but they couldn't even push the A and B variants of the F-35?
To be fair the A B and C variants probably don’t differ much in performance as the do flanker variants with the canard and no canard variants and thrust vectoring and those without like you can’t tell me the Su-30sm/mil and Su-35 aren’t that different but I get your point they could have at least put other shit like the frog foot or hell I would’ve been more accepting if they added some of the flankers as their Chinese counter parts because atleast they would come with different liveries than the basic Russian blue and white camos
Kono has a Flanker fetish, that's why. I believe it's on record that it's his favorite aircraft.
The A and B's have appeared over the franchise though, Infinity had them both and not the C. Still kinda strange that they weren't in 7, given how often 7 reused Infinity assets.
They have all variants modeled, and the only instance of all being in one game is Ace Combat Infinity. This time they just chose not to for some reason.
The answer is actually really simple:
Licensing fees. It's why an aircraft might appear in some games but not others.
well the runway in all AC7 missions is always long enough for take off. there's not really a point to include the other F35 versions that compromise on performance to allow for a shorter runway/vtol
Just wait for the jet to get added in War Thunder. Someone will probably leak a document in their forums, and then we can get an accurate representation of one.
@@Lockhorns Classified documents on the F35 actually did leak on the WT forums a few weeks ago.

The VTOL VR F-45 is SO realistic to the real f35, from just the TSD being an EXACT replication of the F-35's, to the stealth aspects of beast mode or just using the internal pylons

F-45 is honestly scary to fight in VTOL, I’ve had moments where I didn’t know that the Ghost was there until I could literally see the pilot waving at me
bro u play VTOL i love that game we should play
Ive done that in 1v1s before. Turn your radar off and inspect their loadout before popping up on their 6 and saying "dont do it"
Doesn't help that the F-45A is the second best dogfighter in game. (Second only to the A/V-42C)
While the 26B and the 55 have a G limiter switch, the F-45A's lift fan doesn't have a speed limit nor a damage model (the F-45A itself doesn't have a G damage model at all either in general, where in theres some maneuvers you can pull to get to over 20G's and it does not receive damage)
the lift fan allows you to get a tighter one circle against other aircraft, in essence allowing you to viff. this also applies to the A/V-42C, which is the first best dogfighter because it's engines have a piss missile acceleration rate.
Did a user made mission where my job in the F-45A was "Destroy SAMs".... weapon restricted me to AGM-88S.... "You do not understand how this platform is to be used. Give me SDBs..."
@@Eihort GBU-53's go hard on the F-45A, legitimately best A2G IMO. Although AGM-145's can go up to 70nm depending on altitude.

You must have found the wrong side of DCS. Maybe just stay away from the popular communities like Growling Sidewinder. I am part of the DCS dogfighters community. It is group where people specialize in guns only 1v1 dogfights. Very welcoming and friendly. All the best pilots(even a real F-22 pilot) there take time to teach you how to improve in a non-hostile environment. They host a dogfight server where I fly on. Best community I have ever been a part of.
Edit: YT has been shadow deleting every comment I made responding to which server. It is called "DCS Dogfighters" in both discord server and DCS server

you forgot the most high-tech realistic aircraft and spacecraft SIM, Kerbal space program
So I actually considered throwing KSP up there. I have like 3k hours in that game. On more sparsely represented aircraft I might use it with BD armory. The AC130 comes to mind.
YEAH
I’ve actually made F-35A and C variants that operate as spaceplanes. They both have internal weapons bays with 4 missiles total (that also hide the extendable guns), an equipment bay on top that hides a docking port and solar panels, and the C variant has a hidden tailhook, but sadly no folding wings.
They also hold up to 4 crew each (2-seat cockpit bc of the B9 Lightning cockpit it uses and a Mk1 cabin in the equipment bay, so it can carry a backup crew for long-distance flights or passengers for tours).
They’re not SSTOs, they’re more like TSTOs as they use a reusable winged lifter.
@@Mimiaga0 Not sure if you know already or not, but the dev behind BD armory is the same dev who makes VTOL VR
Try juno new origins, which is more realistic than ksp (no hate).
What it lacks in soul it supplies in ultra customizable crafts.

As for why only the C appears in Ace Combat 7, It was the first F-35 to debut in an AC game, in 5. I believe they chose the C model as 5 has some missions which force you to use a carrier based aircraft, so they chose the C to give the player more options during those missions. From there, it's just the variant of choice to depict, more out of tradition than anything. Spinoff games have included the A and B, Assault Horizon and Infinity, but the mainline games have never featured other variants;
Also a funny oversight with 7's depiction is it still has some of it's Luneberg reflectors attached, which artificially increases it's radar return for peacetime flight. It's also equipped with the Block 4 Sidekick bays that increases the A2A missile internal capacity to 6, but it only has the 4AAM spw rather than 6AAM.
The F-45 looks like a cursed mix of J-20 and F-35 and I can't unsee it
The J-20 but good
@@Mimiaga0 personally I think the J-20 is good in its own ways as a stealthy multi-role heavy fighter that does exceed the F-35 in some aspects, like range and payload, even with the shenanigans that was part of its development.
@@joshualeespiny7172 no no, J-20 = chinese, and therefore must equal bad/ nono not got see?
@@andrewduan5123 the fact they have a good stealth fighter is impressive.
It does have stealth in Ace Combat, kind of. I remember when playing through AC0 on the hardest difficulty where one missile will kill you from full health, one of the bits i was stuck on the longest was a night mission where 8 F-35s show up and jump you, they are invisible on your minimap a lot of the time so it's basically impossible to keep track of them all. I think the squadron at the final Round Table mission took me less tries than those 8 nameless F-35s
In Ace Combat 7, stealth factors in how well the plane can be locked and tracked by missels. I noticed it especially on higher difficulties, when enemys start takeing advantage of there bottemless supply of missels.
@@MeowMeowMeowMeowMeowMeowMeowww In multiplayer, it also affects when you show up on radar and the HUD. Like if someone is flying a lower point cost plane, they won't see it until it is way closer (You can see this same effect with people who use Rafales in under 2500 point games with the stealth parts.) Though because its so expensive it almost never comes into play in an actual match since most people fly F22s or super planes at the F-35's level
The huffnug mission?

Yeah, "Inferno" is absolutely BRUTAL in AC0. That mission trips me up every time on Ace difficulty. It hurts even more when I'm doing an F-15C-only playthrough. Those F-35's are able to turn with me at my stall speeds, which forces me to just extend away and pray I don't get a Fox2 up the ass while I reposition for a joust.
QAAM's are a lifesaver here.
For the DCS one, I don't think it uses the F-15E module (which was review bombed as a result of a pay dispute between the devs and publishers) there's a low fidelity F-15C module with Flaming Cliffs 3, I recommend the bundle.
FC3 is no longer available, it got replaced by Flaming Cliffs 2024 with a price hike :(

You said it, not me lmao
The irritating thing about that whole F-35 lost to an F-16 in a simulated dogfight article, is it was total BS. They were NOT dogfighting, they were testing areas of the F-35's envelope that could be expanded safely. At the time the flight control software limited the F-35 to 6 or 7 G's, I can't remember specifically but it was testing with aircraft like the F-16 that allowed Lockheed Martin to fully open up the F-35's flight envelope and release it to a full 9+ G's flight envelope.
Regarding Ace Combat 7, the other two weapons 4AAM and SOD are internally carried. If you're playing on PC there's also an F-35 stealth mod that mounts all weapons internally, replaces the SOD with cruise missiles and the 8AGM with XSDB. It also enhances the stealth stat in the game, which translates to the AI enemies not attacking you from as far as they normally would.
Fun facts:
USMC have both the B and C variants.
Harrier Squadrons got the B
Hornet Squadrons got the C.
Vanilla ArmA 2 has the F-35B.
Yea, of course they got both variants. They need a replacement for the Hornets too

7:25 a bit about Phased Array Radars.
The modern generation of phased array radars, are called Active electronically scanned arrays (AESA)
When compared to most fourth generation fighter radars, which are mounted on a gimbal with a motor that steers them in the direction they need to look, these new phase to raise are fixed in place and the radar beam is steered electronically. This allows it to move much quicker, it also allows for advantages in how accurate the radar can be and some other fun stuff that's a little too technical to explain in a UA-cam comment section.
I always rooted for the F - 35 since I was 12; I genuinely never understood why people hated it.
the program was very late and over budget, also like he said, russian propaganda
Late, over budget, and it was designed to replace many aircraft that were beloved, while not appearing to have anything like the capabilities of those planes. Eg. It’s way slower than F-15, and doesn’t go Brrrt like an A-10.
@@MrOtistetrax Speed means nothing when you can't achieve it. A F-15 will have to go into combat with a missile load and 2 or 3 fuel tanks bolted to it, while the speed on the spec sheet was recorded in a clean config flight. Supersonic flight is extremely costly in terms of fuel so once you're past transsonic there's not a lot of reasons to go max speed when Mach 1.4-1.6 gets you there fast.
The 25mm BRRTS just fine.
@@MrOtistetrax People put a lot of emphasis on speed but even one of the directors of the F-15 program has stated how little they've flown supersonic, both in combat and in training, let alone above the F-35's Mach 1.6

Good video. DCS isn't that bad, you just have to find people who are respectful to fly with, not big communities. VTOL is literally what we've all dreamed of since we were kids, and I love being here for it.
A good mention would be in VRChat, someone has made a F-35 Simulator world that allows you to fly F-35's, you can control the dashboard and a few other features work, and you can do a full cold start. The only downside would be you can't use any flight stick itself, you are using your vr controllers to interact, while holding the grip allows you to use the throttle and stick.
That is teh average Arma experince of you look away for 5 seconds and 90% of the platoon is now dead because one guy mistook a frag gernade for the stun gernade
You can also find f35s in the Annilation and Blitzwar Community moda for Wargame red dragon.
Dam, i honestly want a song liste. The meme potential is through the roof.
The first time I encountered the F-35 in a game was in Battlefied 2 as part of the USMC faction. It was the B version and was deployed from a Wasp class assault ship.
Even though it uses the F15 in Dcs with the F35 skin over it it doesn’t mean it flies like the F15. The performance is adjustable like roll rates, pitch rates, acceleration etc and has been made to be as close to it as a developer can make it based on their idea of it at least. But it’s not just the “F15” with skin.
The F15 is a “low fidelity” simplified Flaming Cliffs 3 plane. It’s made to represent the F15 but the cockpit doesn’t work, it just uses basic key binds. So it works with your HOTAS and follows the big things but there’s no “Adjusting the countermeasure dispensing program” or “fine tuning the IFF” or whatever. So the F35 is a low fidelity version with the closest someone can get to the known performance of it.
You've actually missed my favorute and by far the oldest depiction of the F-35! It's called literally "Joint Strike Fighter" and was released in 1997 by Edios Interactive. The goal was basically to take the requirements set forth in the JSF program, look at the two competitors and imagine them as operational aircraft that managed to attain the design goals of each platform in a simulator environment, at least as what passed for one in the late 90s. As a result we see things like datalink and the TSD represented pretty well. As a side note the soundtrack goes extremely hard for what is just a random sim game, for me personally it's by far the most memorable "background track" type OST in any game (as opposed to the Ace Combat OSTs which are very much 'main theme' foreground stuff for the most part)
7:33 😂 that's a great line
I pretty much only use the F-45 in VTOL VR. Love that plane so much

The F-45 in VTOL is amazing. There are a lot of (legitimate) controversies around the F-35 program, but when you hop in the cockpit and start using the damn thing, you understand immediately what they are trying to achieve even if it's a very simplified version. The modular interface, the sensor fusion, the data link, the crazy capabilities of the EOTS, the helmet display... It's intuitive and easy coming from the other aircrafts with analog interfaces. The fact that you really have to interact with the plane to fly it and use its systems in the game makes it very clear that this is the future, there's no going back.

I love that you showed the single best and most quoted GTA V cutscene.
To give a example of how much of a change AESA is, a regular radar scans like a lighthouse and a AESA scans like a those concert lights that cause seizures
Edit: also for most mods in dcs all you need is the F15c which is $15 dollars right now or lower because of the summer sale (idk, I dont use the steam version of dcs)
I saw that NCD post as well
Nice video.
The one game I’m missing here is JSF (1997) made by Innerloop studios and published by Eidos interactive.
It was the first combat sim featuring the JSF when the fly-off competition between Lockheed’s X-35 and Boeing’s X-32 was just announced and no winner was of course known.
The cockpit design (6 separate MFDs) is notably different and the sims avionics are basic as well.
However it was still the first to feature the “F-35” in some form, also allowing you to exploit its stealth features, if you equipped a loadout limited to the internal weapons bay and reduced the reliance on radar, complemented by an in flight datalink with the AWACS.
I play both DCS and VTOL VR, I’ve never flown the F-35 mod in DCS, but I’ve flown the F-45A in VTOL, it’s basically a mix between the 3 main variants of the F-35, and with canards, but let me tell you, the F-45 is a *BEAST* in A-G and especially BVR, and despite having that big lift fan, it’s still one of the best dog fighters because of something called VIFFing, or Vectoring In Forward Flight
Edit: also the F-15C module for DCS is like $16 (it’s the low fidelity F-15, which is used for most mods in DCS
The USAF mod F-35 for arma 3 is amazing, it even integrates the DAS and jammer, plus satellite feeds into the cockpit and a bunch of other stuff

honestly the best way to utilize jets in battlefield is to be doing constant dive bombs so your ground targets arent flying past your crosshairs. its the air combat that your not really doing that.
I don't know if you would be interested in a Strategy/RTS game compared to a flight sim, but Broken Arrow by Steel Balalaika Studio will feature Infantry, tanks, artillery, anti-aircraft systems, and aircraft, including all three variants of the F-35. For the multiplayer battles you can build a list from the available specializations including customizing payloads for aircraft and helicopters and editing weapons packages for ground vehicles and infantry. In the last multiplayer beta the Marine Corp and Armored Specializations were available for the US and brought the F-35B with only weapons in the weapons bay with two Amraams and two changeable slots for bombs or missiles.
Vtol vr is truly the best flight sim that is also a game, dcs is cool and all but I ain’t spending a down payment on something I can get for 40 + a vr headset.
Id pay far more than what baha asks to get the dlc aircraft
Ok, so I play a game called War Tycoon. Its on Roblox (I KNOW I KNOW ITS ROBLOX BUT ITS ALRIGHT) and its an alright game BUT. The F35 in the game costs like £25 AND is just all of the variants in one, holds 6 lock on missiles (air and ground) 4 bombs and has the most health out of any aircraft except a B29 or AC-130. It has an internal gun, VTOL, beefy ass landing gear.

I remember enjoying C&C Generals and shortly after my favourite RTS of all time came out with YF-23, F-32 & YF-35 (the 32 and 35 was only in the expansion)
if you bit the bullet on that f-15 in dcs you would have been extremely dissapointed to figure out that it was the wrong one, and that you wasted $60 on a dying module lol
The Ace Combat 7 F-35 can use the internal bay by selecting the 4AAM weapon, your fox 2s will still be on the outside, but still
I'm assuming that your just making a guess as to what the DCS community is like because it's actually extremely non-toxic community. I know it might seem toxic based on the nature of the game, but you'd be surprised. I recommend Enigma's Cold War (ECW). Also, if you do decide to give it a try, play standalone and not steam. And, for older aircraft (older in the context of DCS release date, not IRL) there is a 2 week free trial for each aircraft, map, bundle, etc. No credit card required
Edit: ECW runs off of Syria and Caucuses (which is a default free map) so I recommend you rent the F-5E, F-86F (f youre into early cold war) and the Syria map. The Modern DCS aircraft like the F-16/18/14 are very high quality and detailed.

@@gigacream5830 either those or cold war players who just love the vibe and play DCS because it's currently the only realistic cold war air sim [not counting WT despite systems realism due to game mode realism issues/lack of buttons :( ]
The myth, the legend, Tom Clancy's HAWX 2 F-35 experience was a core memory for me. In fact, imma go play it again, been too long.
I'm playing it though for the AC130 video, and oof. Not the best experience.
I have an iPad game with the F-35C. Once the developer updated its cockpit back in 2022. I absolutely fell in love with it.
Elevator Mechanic here, it is almost certainly a plane.
Just as I was starting to wonder why VTOLVR hasn't been mentioned yet, you literally saved the best for last. Amazing.
While not a hardcore sim like DCS, it is still the best and most functional representation of the F-35 that we have at the moment. Ironically, it has less carrier landing navigation systems than the F/A-26B which makes think that Baha intentionally designed the Ghost to almost always be landed in VTOL config.
i love how professional trained pilots and mechanics still need the painted danger signs
There's a saying across aviation (I've heard it many times being Navy, so I assume it's the same for the other branches) but everything we do is "written in blood" because either some died from it or got hurt from it or someone caused someone to die or get hurt. And, unfortunately, people ain't the brightest. I once saw a trainee walk under an Super Hornet that had a turning APU to get to other side only to be told to go back and he walked under the tail hook. Then when we had to bleed the jet, the bucket of hyd fluid somehow spilled on him. So, yeah, professional pilots and maintainers need warnings lol.
My first introduction to the F-35 is Energy Airforce: Aim Strike! A PS2 game from the early 2000s, which has 2 variants of the F-35 (F-35B and the C variant which dubbed as X-35). It was somewhat realistic, could also configure between stealth or non stealth configuration. Also there is a world in VR Chat called F-35B Simulator or something, and has pretty much all the neat features in it and you can also configure its loadout.
20:15 the will sports music is spot on for MSFS
Ace Combat Infinity on the PS3 had all 3 variants fyi
Former Lockheed contractor here.
I built power supply’s for the F35 weapons and tracking systems. (SMT solder station operator. Sounds more glorious than the actual job) But I’ll always have a soft spot for the F35
Hi, I know I am late to the conversation, but better late then never. In Ac 7 we got a lot of mods for the F-35C And some modders are working on the B variant right now. Personally, I can't wait for one of them to do the A variant
There's an Arma 3 mod F-35 with an interactive cockpit, including mfd pages. There's also a mod that lets you control the eots while in the cockpit view.
I was kind of hoping the old Over G game for Xbox 360 would show up, that game was surprisingly in depth in terms of characteristics of the planes they used
the F-35 in Ace Combat 7 does use the internal weapon bay for the SOD and 4AAM special weapons
My favorite part was where you used an OST example of AC where the F35 wasn't even present in the game :OOOO
Please make more of these! I loved this. Would absolutely watch more.
F-35 also made an appearance in BF4. Decently accurate F-35B.
The F-35s VTOL capabilities are uhh severely lacking due to a slight issue found in testing that set the program back years:
The engine had a tendency to melt anything below it.
Earlier ace combat games actually had the F-35 use it's internal weapon bays
The Corolla of 5th Generation fighters
It ain't pretty but it's worth every penny
Also is the only 5th gen fighter on the market, right now...
A Corolla with the specs of a Lamborghini under the hood
14:25 the F35 model in Ace Combat 7 does use its weapons bays for special weapons other than the 8agm. also has its radar reflectors equipped which would never be used for any combat sortie… thats what kind of ruined the plane in that game for me honestly. You can’t unsee them
0:16 VMFA 242 my beloved Squadron. Greenside Corpsman rise up!
I knew in the back of my mind from the very beginning that VTOL VR would be the best f-35
So the “touchscreen” in the cockpit isn’t exactly like an iPad or phone screen. Since pilots are wearing gloves, it would be harder for the screen to detect its being touched. Instead, they developed the screen and then put a laser grid over it. Wherever the grid is interrupted is where the plane will register.
Your rating system has me LOL
A lazerpig fan to be sure
Rockstar games tends to combine different vehicles and form them into 1 single vehicle, and most of the time you can tell which ones they’ve combined. The Raiju (I think) was a combination of the YF-23 and the F-35.
Unironically I avoided your vids on this as I thought you were gonna be another one of those classic youtubers who just keep saying the same misinformation about these aircrafts, but no you are actually right. please keep those chill vibes in the vids, awesome work!
(Spray was the bain of modern aircraft.)
