This is a great, straight forward video, and I appreciate the wrench and socket sizes and torque specs. We got a quote for about $6000 to replace two outer tie rods, two LCAs on the front end, and two rear shocks. Banged out the first two this weekend and after handling that nightmare your great video makes these look like a breeze. They wanted $1300 for the shocks alone!
Those prices are crazy! I suggest not going back to the place that gave that quote
@@themechanic6117 Bud they charged market price for an oil change, they charged $250 to "pull codes" and "clear codes" to solve her A/C mode acting up. Far as I interrogated they pulled a battery terminal for 15 seconds! They quoted $6500 for $800 worth of parts and small labor. Their service advisor started acting squirrely when I asked for the codes off their OBDII hardware and now I'm jacking up the car and swapping parts. Life's too short to let clowns play you.

For the future DIY viewers, The KYB Excel-G Shock Absorber 349075 comes with the bushing kits. These shock absorbers are made in Japan.

This guy's does great job of explaining each detail. I just got one thing to say i got everything complete with my shocks from parts geek didn't need to buy anything extra.
Good advice on the torque spec. OEM specs are many times for new fasteners only so your correct to adjust the torque to feel before you strip the threads . Very well done bud. 👍
I got to about 90 and the bolt was spinning but the torque on my gauge wasnt going up....nope. time to stop😂 backed it off and set it to a happy 80lbs
@@themechanic6117 really good video that was easy follow, but the torque values you were using were incorrect. That lower shock bolt should be torqued to 81ft/lbs, not the 110ft/lbs you referenced and the upper mounting nuts 18ft/lbs. When looking at the factory service manual it lists 3 torque values in this order ex. 110 N-m (11 kg-m, 81 ft-lb)

Just dropped off my car at the dealer, both rear control arms are covered thru extended Nissan warranty. Glad I watched some of these videos that’s how I found out about it. My car is Altima 2015 and the warranty expires in July.

I bought. The shocks from amazon. 2 monroes shock. And they came with the bushings
Top wash and nut
Top rubber and lower.
But thank u for the tip the some shocks dont come with it

@@themechanic6117 I'm a retired auto tech and did the shocks on my Altima yesterday. Your video helped me prepare for what to expect. All went well and I even did the rear brakes while I had it jacked up. Us old guys don't like working on the ground, so I tried to do what else was needed while I had the tools out and was in position. PS:: Thanks for the tip about the bushings for the shocks. I checked my parts before hand and was lucky that the bushings came with the shocks. Thanks again!

Don't you wish all car companies would ISO certain consumable
parts, not just obvious stuff like threads, fasteners, connectors, etc.?
Those rear shocks went on so easy.
Some cars/trucks are just so obviously not meant to be repaired.
No care is taken to use galvanized hardware, or any kind of
fastener lubrication, but they'll slather on that thread locker,
the entire length of bolt, then zip it in Hercules tight.
I know, planned obsolescence- returning Customers.
Sometimes- it's taken too far.

A bought the new structs. So my mechanic can put it in but after 1 day it keep making a loud creepy noise on the back still

Excellent video well explained. Only one question....do you ever apply a little grease to the rubber bushings to avoid squeeks that can sometimes happen
I didnt think it was necessary here but you can. As long as the grease wont harm the rubber
@@themechanic6117 Thanks for that. I just phoned a technical hotline who suggested using a silicone based grease. That will not degrade the rubber in any way

Need help!! Are the 3.5 and 2.5 rear shocks the same? I can’t find a set of 3.5 shocks with the top mounts. I found some used shocks on ebay but they say it’s for 2.5, will the mount bolts be the same? I just need the mounts to put on the new ones I got. Any idea?

I'm kinda late to this video, but my question is about the shock bushing when you were saying that they make a noise when worn out. Does the noise that the worn out bushings make sound like a metallic rattle of sorts? Just wanted to confirm my suspicion from a noise that im getting from my rear end.

@@themechanic6117 I never done and upper shock before I have use extractors when a a bolt break but when it snaps and it’s factory welded on top . Idk what to do. I look in the trunk and couldn’t find it. I was thinking of drilling it from the bottom and using a bolt front the top. Idk tho you any good ideas?

My next option is dropping new bolts from the lock with a lock washer hopefully that will hold
@@pierrecastellanos961 I use a 3/8 thick self taper because it’s mostly just to hold in place a lot of down weight. You can get them from fastenal! My other options because I have no way of getting to it was to remove interior panel. Or take it Nissan..
Do we need the bushing kit even for the front?
May I ask you your opinion on the rear left light assembly on a 2015 Altima SV . So I swapped all lights to LEDs in and out the car . Good quality LEDs. So I replaced the led new and still didn't work so I ordered the harness that's attachable I hope that works . I changed the fuses they were blowned and still didn't work . May I ask what do you think It could be I hope what I ordered works???
Take out the LED and put in regular bulbs. The car was designed to use regular bulbs

I have squeaking (I think squeaking) noise from rear of my Nissan Altima when I go on bumps. I observed the same thing from many other Altimas as well. What could be the reason.

Im trying to install coilovers on my altima and that bolt at 1:10 is seized to the metal sleeve. How do i get it out? Or if i have to cut that bushing, can i press in a new one while that spindle knuckle is still on the car?? Thanks in advance!
Yours too huh. HowI you fix it if you did?
I didn't, I just installed the front coilovers. The rears is still stock. Shop told me they'd have to cut that bolt then remove the hub and press that bushing out, they can't do it while it's on the car. Seems like a hassle so I just left it with front coilovers for now
@@mctapout187 man thats sucks. I was trying to take my coilovers off end of last year before winter but the rear right bold was seized so I left it. Now that it’s warming up I’m trying to fix it but it’s gona be a pain i see.
@@mctapout187 I also threw away my old shocks when I installed the coil overs now that I want to go back to stock I realized I need the top mounts from the old ones since the new ones don’t come with it. And I can’t find them anywhere either lol
