My favorite thing about Jerry vs Rick is that 90% of the time Jerry has every right to call Rick out which is probably something Rick understands, but he's too much of a gutless idiot that he never follows through. I think that's why Jerry's Floating Adventures halfway impressed Rick that one time

The new episode really showed that. Jerry has grown to a point where he can argue with Rick without any fear of repercussions
Considering what the Season 5 finale revealed about the "mass production" of Mortys and how that recontextualizes Rick's disdain for Jerry, one of the saddest things about their relationship is how Jerry may be one of the only true friends Rick has.

Hence, why he calls Beth "Rick's daughter" instead of "my daughter." His Beth died, he just popped into her Rick's place when she was an adult already.

I think secretly Rick actually respects Jerry for being a family man something he couldn't achieve
It’s probably the reason he sabotaged the marriage.
Rick is too spiteful and petty to see Jerry actually being a decent father and husband. He hates Jerry cause Jerry is everything Rick isn’t. Rick may be intellectually and physically superior but he’ll never have the humility that Jerry has and the ability to swallow one’s pride for the sake of family.
That gains new meaning after we saw Rick’s backstory. Rick likely respects Jerry because Rick secretly wanted to be like Jerry, a family man who cares about those around him, but Prime Rick didn’t give him a chance.

My favorite episodes are the ones with both Rick and Jerry. At this point Morty grew that his relation with Rick changed, but when you swap Morty for Jerry then you have this original dynamic kind of back.

The comics have this really good story with the doofus rick universe. Since that rick is the dumbest, it has the smartest Jerry, and its really cool. I predict that this new season will introduce different family members that share Rick's intelligence. If they go that route, it will be a really neat concept to explore.

Rick and jerry is my favorite team up . Their complete opposites and pair perfectly but can never get along
I honestly think that people give Jerry too little credit. Like when you compare him to Rick’s values, yeah he’s utterly pathetic because he’s a total idiot and pitiful coward, but at the same time, he still actively loves his family and tries to make himself better as the show goes on such as being able to admit when he’s wrong like in the camping episode or stepping in and saving Rick from Birdperson when previously he would have ran away. Rick on the other hand is so arrogant and insecure that he’ll go to extreme lengths just to avoid admitting he was wrong, and has shown time and time again that while he may love his family, he doesn’t treat them right and is constantly a toxic presence in their lives to the point that they’ve put up barriers around him. That’s why Jerry’s a perfect foil for Rick because his good and simple nature keeps coming out on top, despite Rick’s immense intellect and god-like abilities. If you really want to know who’s winning the feud, you just have to look at how Jerry’s relationship with the family has changed since season 1 and how Rick’s has.

@leafyv4 That can't even be called parenting, rick just needs morty for reasons of his own, although rick has his soft side and has shown occasions that he cares for morty, but it's still too much suffering for a child where rick has gone so far as to erase him the mind to morty just for having certain differences, that's not parenting, it's just a toxic relationship.
At this point after seeing the last chapters should be enough reason for anyone to stop justifying the relationship of those 2 characters

Also in the last chapters it became very clear why rick needs morty, it is not out of love but out of pure selfishness.

[Spoilers] Now that we know Ricks story I guess we can understand why Rick hates him so much. His daughter died and when he finds a family with her where she can return to he realizes that the norm is marrying to someone who can't even hold a job. Plus it goes from seeing his little girl die, to her being married. Must be hard.
