1:54 I was curious who said this part. Allegedly, according to an online post, it went like this: Question asker: you could be gay icons then? Johnny Capps: they're already gay icons!
🚨Disclaimer! Please read below ⬇️ In the video Julian is talking to Katie about Morgana & Morgause’s “lesbian undertones”. For RELATED half sisters to be written in that way is VERY WRONG and comes off as f3tishizing. I didn’t realize to later putting the clip in that it could be potentially took the wrong way (as it to be funny or a good thing) or people would just overlook it. Julian has said even more things about it in that commentary that I didn’t put in the video that are more graphic.
In many old arthuruan tales morgana and morgause are often arthurs galf sisters and mordred is the son he conceives with one of his half sisters. Those are more disturbing than lesbisn undertones of 2 half sisters whom we are not even sure are half sisters.
I didn’t know the name of morgause’s actor so I assumed that she meant scenes with Gwen’s actor. Also it just figures that he’d be much more graphic and detailed and open about lesbian undertones in a relationship where those undertones should not have existed than the beautiful gay couple right in front of him!
I think there should be room for people to interpret it how they like. If you see two best friends, great. If you see a couple in the making that awkwardly keeps dancing around the subject, also great. Anything in between, go for it! I personally enjoy both perspectives. I've come across some really interesting fanfiction on both sides of that spectrum. 😆
I had no idea there was a merlin fandom. I am 16 now but it was my favourite show EVER when I was younger I was totally obsessed it's one of very few things I can remember vividly from that time. I totally forgot about it though until my friend told me I should watch it I was shocked😭. Rewatching it now and seeing the gay (over)tone to the whole thing makes it SO MUCH BETTER I AM SO HAPPY
It honestly makes me really sad that there was no canon acknowledgement of the romance between Merlin and Arthur. What I wouldn't give to see this show remade now, with justice done to the intense romantic chemistry between the two. If Merlin or Arthur were a woman in the show, we absolutely would have seen something different. Breaks my heart that it never happened, because I think the show (especially the finale) would have been so much more impactful if it were explored or at the very least acknowledged. The "just hold me" was the nail in the coffin. The showrunners absolutely knew what they were doing at that point - even if it wasn't intentional in the beginning - and to me, it really just reads like queerbaiting. I still love the show for what it is, but so many shows just like this really just damaged me emotionally as a queer person. I really didn't realize how bad this sort of thing messed me up until I watched "Our Flag Means Death" recently. I would recommend the absolute hell out of that show to anyone, queer or straight. SPOILERS: I spent the entire show believing nothing was going to come of Stede and Edward, and I genuinely cried happy tears when it did, because we (queer folks) have been so conditioned not to expect any fulfillment or honest representation in protagonists in mainstream media. A lot of other people who watched Our Flag Means Death commented on the same thing. The show is just incredibly healing, and it's made me realize just how many times we've been let down by other shows. Merlin, as much as I love it, was one of them. And I can only hope that OFMD is just the beginning. It's so cruel to lead queer audiences on, to insert so much subtext, to drag out the audience's expectations by compounding on it in order to capitalize on queer people's hopes and desires to be represented, just to gaslight the community and say "maybe that's what /you/ saw", or "ah, people just like to read into something that's not really there". Or to say after the fact that it was always there, when there was obviously no intention of following through. Anyway, that was a whole essay. Sorry.
all thanks to 500+yrs of religious bs, compounded by Victorian lawmakers. even today, the BBC is in the grip of this bs when they want to sell their 'family shows' around the world
Ofmd really was like First 8 episodes: Ooh pirates that seem gay, maybe they'll kiss The 9th: OMG FINALLY I CANT BELIEVE ITS NOT QUEERBAIT The last ep: oh shit, wtf, no, NO, NOOOOO! WTAF
What makes 'The Adventures of Merlin' so good is the comedy, Merlin's dry humor & sarcasm & Arthur growing out of being so arrogant & becoming more humble & wise - mostly thanks to Merlin. Keep doing the bloopers, so fun, informative & reminds us these characters are actors.
This is absolutely brilliant! Angel and Katie's comments during episode are my fav. Also in the interview with bradley and colin why do i feel like colin iz holding back a laugh😄while bradley talks about the strong "friendship" between arthur and merlin. Thank u so much for your work🤗
ofc there is _love_ between the two main characters. for 5 seasons (roughly 10yrs or so) Merlin was Arthur's constant companion both in life and death situations and daily routine stuff. Arthur clearly loves Merlin and Merlin dedicated his whole life to Arthur. the question is: is anyone _in love_ with the other? friends love each other. but is there more to it here?
I saw this come up in my recomendations, and I have NEVER been so thankful to the youtube algorythm. That half of this was Katie McGrath talking to one of the screenwriters / Co-Creators, about how gay the show is, just made my day. 😂
This Guys should bring back a season 6 of Merlin. I personally feel the story line had more to be exploited, and could possibly give a season 6 and even 7
the episode commentaries for this show are outstanding for this kind of stuff. i think they were made during that perfect period of time where no one really paid attention to dvd extras so there wasn't so much pr restriction on the stuff said in them.
U know I think it would be awsome if they continued it again but with older merlin and I think he should find a way to travel back to the past that would be cool if it happened though most likely not this is still my favorite series to watch and I will forever keep re watching it.

1:54 I was curious who said this part. Allegedly, according to an online post, it went like this:
Question asker: you could be gay icons then?
Johnny Capps: they're already gay icons!
Ah okay, thanks! Yeah I had a hard time trying to figure out who was who in that interview
“The cast”coughs” Katie..” I’m screaming 😭KATIE fan number one of gay romance on any show
7:02 this is genuinely the most iconic thing I've ever seen
Morgana both denies the canon ship but then states "Give the fans what they want!" And then full on ships them herself. Love it.
He should have made them kiss, EVERYONE WOULD HAVE LOVED IT. YOU KNOW WHAT, they should film it again with an ending kiss
in the final ep when Merlin realises Arthur is dead, their foreheads briefly touch. he could have kissed Arthur's forehead instead.
Omg the subtitles 💕 thank you so much!!! The production value is *chef's kiss*
My pleasure! 😇
This is so good! Yesterday marks the year I finished this amazing show. I’m never going to stop loving their relationship ❤️
Thanks! Aww Happy belated one year 💜
@@merlinsimpclub Thank you!
I DID NOT KNOW ANY OF THESE INTERVIEWS/COMMENTARIES EXISTED OH MY GOSH. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR PUTTING THESE TOGETHER AND SHARING THEM!! BLESS!!
🚨Disclaimer! Please read below ⬇️
In the video Julian is talking to Katie about Morgana & Morgause’s “lesbian undertones”.
Also it just figures that he’d be much more graphic and detailed and open about lesbian undertones in a relationship where those undertones should not have existed than the beautiful gay couple right in front of him!
... Considering some of the original Arthurian tales, I think that's the least disturbing of the source material. Chill out, it's not real. 😂
The fact that the creators confirmed that the show is a love story between them...
This is my first time hearing about Katie McGrath and I already think she's awesome.
You even dug up Tom Holland's tweet from 2012. Great job! I love that this fandom still lives
the way katie goes "i love you :D" is so adorable
Percival’s actor finding out about ship names is the funniest fucking thing I can’t even
"The last vestige of his hetro-"
LMAOO!!!!
Oh my God... I'm not even a Merthur shipper, but don't think I need to be one to say WHY WEREN'T WE GIVEN THE ENDING KATIE CAME UP WITH!!! 😭😭😭
2:51
PFFT I DIDN'T EXPECT COLIN TO POP OUT OF NOWHERE LIKE THAT XDD
s a m e 👁👄👁
I love the conversation between Katie and Julian. That was amazing.
Im so happy this fandom is still alive I was just missing it and i found this and it made me very happy
also yeah merthur is canon lmao
It will never die :D it’s magical
"Which bond is stronger? Athur's romance with gwen or Athur's bromance with Merlin"
Bradley :- "Athur's ROMANCE with Merlin"
Love how we are still talking about this in 2022
Katie is so fucking sweet, we love her ❤
I had no idea there was a merlin fandom.
I used to watch it with my dad which makes it even better bc he is definitely a bit spicy LMAO
so your dad would have been cool with the whole _Merthur_ notion?
Audience “merthur?” Cast: “wait I thought it was canon”
Sorry.
all thanks to 500+yrs of religious bs, compounded by Victorian lawmakers. even today, the BBC is in the grip of this bs when they want to sell their 'family shows' around the world
Ofmd really was like
First 8 episodes: Ooh pirates that seem gay, maybe they'll kiss
The 9th: OMG FINALLY I CANT BELIEVE ITS NOT QUEERBAIT
The last ep: oh shit, wtf, no, NO, NOOOOO! WTAF
Kate is officially the president of the Merthur fanclub. I'm obviously vice president 🤭
What makes 'The Adventures of Merlin' so good is the comedy, Merlin's dry humor & sarcasm & Arthur growing out of being so arrogant & becoming more humble & wise - mostly thanks to Merlin. Keep doing the bloopers, so fun, informative & reminds us these characters are actors.
the merlin fandom will NEVER DIE. WE WILL ONLY GET STRONGER !!
This is absolutely brilliant! Angel and Katie's comments during episode are my fav. I wanted to awwww every time arthur and merlin were on screen too))
Even the creator says there's love between them.
I am a simple girl.
I saw Katie.
I clicked.
We think the same way
Katie out here writing the fanfiction for us 👑 Queen!
Merlin fandom still going strong I see, well done everyone!!
“That’s not what I meant and you know it” HELP HAHAHAHAHAHH I LOVE HIM
I didnt expect tom holland in the end 💀
Katie must be protected at all costs
3:36 THE SARCASM dripping down I’m crying
I saw this come up in my recomendations, and I have NEVER been so thankful to the youtube algorythm. That half of this was Katie McGrath talking to one of the screenwriters / Co-Creators, about how gay the show is, just made my day. 😂
Dude I almost spit out my coffee half way through the video XD
"You could be gay icons then"
"They're already gay icons!" 🤣
that’s cool that toms favorite show is merlin
This is probably my favorite video on youtube, ever. 😭 You're doing Gods work here 🙏
Okay I loved Morgana while watching the show and now I also love Katie McGrath just for the person she is. Wonderful 😂😂😂
Katie being an absolute fujoshi fan girl through the whole thing is ✨✨✨✨
This Guys should bring back a season 6 of Merlin.
Woah I hadn't heard most of that commentary in other edits! I'm really surprised nobody has used Bradley saying ily merlin lol
Bradley seems so sweet around fans. Bless him 😂😂😂
this is perfect!!! I just come here every year to rewatch
Tom is everything in this
and don't even get me started on Alex my Merthur shipper #1
OMG I CANT BELIEVE THIS TOM HOLLAND LOVES MERLIN TOO? WE NEED TO HAVE A GEEKY CRYING SESSION TOGETHER ABOUT SERIES 5 EPISODE 13
History books: aNd tHeY wErE RoOmAteS 💀✋
Merlin:
katie's got no filter at this point 😭
I'm rewatching the series and seeing relatively recent comments here is so heartwarming. I love this fandom
U know I think it would be awsome if they continued it again but with older merlin and I think he should find a way to travel back to the past that would be cool if it happened though most likely not this is still my favorite series to watch and I will forever keep re watching it.
Katie McGrath take my soul
Me: this could not get funnier.
This line: "Merdred sounds like murder. Yeah I like merdred"
Me: oh my fucking god.
Me: on the floor dying of laughter.
I can’t help but smile❤️❤️❤️even now it’s 2022.🥺
They are a perfect couple. Hands down. Katie should have wrote the show
Katie has always been supporting gay coupling, she also wanted to be a part of what would’ve been an iconic couple of Kara and Lena in supergirl. Give our girl her gay romance!
