  • What are panic attacks? How are they different from panic disorder?
In this video, I provide an overview of the symptoms of panic attacks and clarify what differentiates panic attacks from panic disorder. I also go over cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for panic disorder.
And as always, I discuss scientific research!

I used to suffer from agoraphobia back in 1978 and 1979 aka panic attacks. I had just gone cold turkey quitting alcohol, tobacco and drugs all at once. I had started walking and one day while walking I all of a sudden started thinking about dying and I couldn't get it out of my head and my heart rate increased, my lips started tingling, my breathing got all screwed up, and I was certain I was having a heart attack or that I was going to drop dead. To make a long story short I ended up calling an ambulance on three of these occasions. I went to go see a psychiatrist and he gave me valiums. And finally on one of the occasions when the ambulance came and the guy had me breathe into a paper sack and it stopped. I came to the realization that if I simply breathed into a paper sack I could make this feeling go away. It sounds ridiculous I know but i didn't need to go see a psychiatrist I simply carried a paper sack with me wherever I went for about 6 months. The paper sack made me realize it was all in my head. Now I know that sounds weird but that's what worked for me. I guess you could say I realized that if I started having one of these spells out in public I could stop it without embarrassing myself with a simple paper sack. Losing all that CO2 from all of a sudden getting excited and altering your breathing involuntarily doesn't make sense to me but it happens. But not anymore to me not since 1979. Knock on wood.

Panic attacks are the worst thing a person can experience, I had panic attacks and it was multiple symptoms come unexpectedly at once, very strong rapid heart beating, blood pressure goes very high 220/110 and I normally don't have high blood pressure, very hot waves on chest then very freezing cold waves like ice inside and back and forth, shaking hands , legs, fear that going to die ect. Very very scary, at hospital through IV Dr. Ordered activan in IV inmediatly all symptoms went back to normal thank God. Strong medication

panic disorder is when you're too stupid to realize that you really don't need what you thought you did
