Since some quirks can affect a person's personality, Toga felt urges to consume blood as a child, but her parents didn't do much besides yell at her to stop or act disgusted by her. All that boiled up with her age and caused her to snap in middle school.
The fact she got yelled at by her family, may be why she equates love to blood, she wants to be loved back.
Since the anime trimmed down the villain arc, aspects of Re-Destro's character was cut.
After watching a new commercial for his company, Re-Destro's assistant made a little comment about the original Destro. Despite how much he cares about his assistant, Re-Destro doesn't allow anyone to bad mouth Destro, and tearfully snapped his assistant's neck.
When Curious was killed, Re-Destro had to stop himself from crying.
Toga is such a crazy little psycho yet I enjoy seeing her in action against these other villains.
Yes they are villains but they are our villains.
I love her
Alright, because these episodes tend to focus on smaller groups, I think the time has come to bring back these character profiles. But before I get going I’ll just remark that this episode had a beautiful spinning camera scene when Toga upgraded her quirk that unfortunately had to be scrapped due to the scene being made with not enough time to color it before it aired. I think it can still be googled. That and I’m pretty sure Redestro is not the 1st Redestro. But from a line of them. I think he’s the 2nd or 3rd. Of course the common theme is that they are from Destro’s bloodline. I can’t remember if the anime changed this or not. Another cut was an amazing commercial scene that showed Redestro as CEO of Detnerat showing clothes made for people with multiple arms, and other various weird designs MHA is known for. And he provides heroes with equipment. (Which he also provided to the MLA, and they always shout Detnerat’s whatever when they display their gear.) So it was an unfortunate cut that made him less focused on. Ultimately, this isn’t a HUGE loss. But it’s worth noting that it’s stuff like this that made the Uraraka filler a pretty major mistake since they didn’t invest more into it.
Alright here’s some profiles.
Chitose Kizuki (Curious)
MLA role: News Publication Executive (so she as a journalist controls narratives to help bring people to their cause)
Quirk: Landmine. Grade: D.
So the versatility on this quirk is insane considering what she can use for her quirk. People, precise surfaces, and more. And it does lack power. Maybe because those she’s attacking she has no intent to end things quickly because she’s always freaking going for interviews. Her chain ring equipment is meant to be an on hand close range attack to keep people at bay. (She said it was called the Curious Flattener) The key to get her quirk upscaled is to try stacking her effect for larger mines. (To get it to a C grade) Not…that we will ever know that considering her current occupation is pavement stain. Well Curious was never about her quirk anyway. Her studies about people’s personalities being effected by their quirk doesn’t seem to apply to herself either. But it DEFINITELY applies to Toga.
Himiko Toga
Quirk: Transform. Grade: Yes (S to F)
Now this quirk just moved up from a D grade to the whole span. And it’s no slouch. If she masters the feeling of a love/obsession, this quirk is no different than Copy that runs on blood and can last 24 hours. (Which is HUGE) As of now the only ones she should be able to use the quirks of are Uraraka, Stain, and POSSIBLY Deku. (Not the most likely since Deku was a blank for Monoma.) This quirk does also give her Reinfield’s Syndrome. (Blood obsession.) Which is a bit beyond quirk therapy’s reach to fix. That needs a specialist. And the Toga family did NOT have such a specialist to work with. Making her the crazed person she is now.
I’m going to end on one final note. I made a FEW references to Monoma in Toga’s profile…and I think this is the perfect time to mention this. Curious mentioned she is the eldest sibling of the Toga family. (Which implies the Toga family was on the rich side to be referred to like that.) And between parents that are weirdly aggressive and demotivating, (parents just telling Toga be normal, and Monoma he can’t be a hero with his copy quirk) a strange side affection for fashion,(keep in mind Toga spending all her money on a duffel coat and Monoma’s non flashy tux with coattails as his hero costume) and also a VERY close physical resemblance, not to mention quirks that now essentially have the same effect…there is a VERY high chance Monoma and Toga are related. And Monoma might be the changed name of the Toga family. If you look at their maniac smiles side by side…they REALLY look like they’re related. They both have the exact same color blonde hair too. And since Toga is ACTUALLY not that far from the kids in age, I don’t think it’s a coincidence Monoma is never put on the battlefield when Toga is out and about. Not at summer camp, which I think is the TRUE reason they had him and only him fail his final exam of Class B. So he and Toga couldn’t encounter. And I think that’s also why Class A and B didn’t go to the same provisional license field. (Aside from the hero profession not wanting to put classes against each other from the same school. But I think this is the actual narrative reason) Yes Toga was filling in for Camie, but I think Monoma would still be able to recognize his crazy sister through her disguise by her actions. I’m only saying this because it’s currently unconfirmed. But I get the distinct hunch it won’t remain that way for long.
So something the anime unfortunately leaves out is that Redestro is actually the CEO of a company. And that company very recently has gotten into making support items for heroes. But he also distributes them on the black market. In which they are programmed to self destruct if any criminals are found with them(like the guys Bakugo and Shoto fought back during episode 12. Curious having that gauntlet that blew up in Toga's face is another example of said support item. I think it works similarly to Bakugo's gauntlets in that it made her explosive quirk more condensed and powerful. That aside, let's get to the analysis.
These episodes that focus on the villains really showcase the flaws in hero society. Instead of people trying to get Toga help or at least tell her things would be okay, people only called her gross and a monster. Even her own parents. They told her to repress something she couldn't control. She didn't ask to be born with that quirk. So all of her repressed feelings eventually bubbled to the surface and burst out.
Yes poor girl
Because of the nature of Toga's quirk, she was born with an affinity to drink blood. But instead of getting her any help to learn how to manage it, she was screamed at by her parents and called creepy. Hero society didn't help her. So Toga kept all of it bottled in and acted normal for 10 years until all that pent up frustration burst out in middle school. Saito, the first boy she killed and drank the blood of, was a boy that she liked. That's why she was crying when she was drinking his blood. Her way of coping with it is to love her victims instead of hating them. Saito also looks exactly like Deku.
Great episode and reaction! Really delved into Toga's backstory and allowed her to grow as a character and her quirk to evolve! Taking a hero's face is one thing, but being able to match their quirk as well..👀

I remember up until this point I more or less thought of Toga as this anime's answer to Harley Quinn, this episode/moment in the manga kind of swayed me away from that though. She's actually pretty unique in terms of what she stands for.

Probably in Smallville, but with Superman they could be anywhere in the world....... in all seriousness we are behind on the show. We plan to finish the season tonight and the rest of the episodes will release over the next week.
