Finally we arrive at the Tal Tal Mountain Range Grand Orchestration. Since I first started, I was tempted to arrange it early on, as it is also my favorite track. Through great patience and humility, I held off on it, and even placed it far off in the tracklist, until my skills improved enough to tackle this beast. It is more appropriate here anyways, as this is when you can finally reach the majority of the mountain. Nevertheless, I've been arranging it in my head for the last 9 months, and obsessing over it until now.
With regards to instrumentation, I felt the interpretation from the "Symphony of the Goddesses" concert was suitably epic, though a bit brief since it was a medley, so I kept mine similar for the fast parts. Tambourines really do add a nice flavor to the energetic rhythm and keep it from sounding too heavy. For the repeating ostinato, I used a combination of ukulele and nylon string guitar, which is similar sounding to the Gerudo Valley theme.
Although every characteristic of the original song is preserved in my arrangement, I still made some significant alterations. The first drastic change you'll notice is that the opening phrase of the main melody has been stretched out 4 times. I felt that the original version rushed to the climax too early. By giving it more room to develop, I feel the melodic progression sounds a lot smoother this way. This also gave me more places to try out all sorts of instrument combinations and articulations. Check out those strings playing trills in discord to the melody. Sounds slightly off, yet somehow works!
One possible controversial addition I made is introducing a third arc to the music after the first two repetitions of the main melody. Since the song is constantly fast and rhythmic, having it on repeat might sound a bit exhausting to a listener. A mountain range consists of peaks and valleys, plateaus and caves. I wanted to add some gloom and introspection, as I'm sure Link must be feeling as he nears the end of his journey. This also allows your mind ears to rest in between the awesome main melody.

+Xeno87 Link's Awakening is still quite playable by today's standards of game design, though. I'm not saying it doesn't deserve a remake, but I think the original Legend of Zelda needs it more desperately.

I have this full album on my phone. I’m a truck driver, and I was traveling through the Sierra Nevadas today, this song played just as I was approaching the base of the range. Talk about your perfect timing. It was epic!

This is by far the best arrangement of Tal Tal Heights I have ever heard; it's an incredible rendition of an already awesome song. It's probably the best song in the game, and arguably the best song in the entire series, and you somehow made it better. Amazing work!

The Second Narrator That's a good mandate. This shit is top tier soundtrack material, especially when you realize they were working with Gameboy era sound technology. Best to keep it as close to the source as possible, there really ain't much worth changing.

This series of reorchestrations, your comments on how everything works together, and the accompanying gameplay footage inspired me to get out my old Game Boy copy of Link's Awakening again and start playing it for the first time in several years. Still never reached the end, but I'm giving it another try thanks to you.

Follow-up to my comment from before. I finally finished Link's Awakening after these videos inspired me to start playing it again. It was really a great Zelda game and may be the best of the 2D installments in the series (still not sure whether ALTTP is better or not). Thank you for the inspiration.

By the way, I liked the gameplay window. The part where a piece of power is dropped, Link hesitates and then decides not to grab it was so cool and true. The in-game music for that thing is not welcome, especially when listening to this.

I've been listening to this gem of a remix for years but i write only now that i absolutely LOVE more than any fan remixes i've come through (thanks to you i found the switches remixes boring as hell (; ) as well as the windfish ballad one .
This is one of the first thing that come to my mind when i think about adventure no kidding ( i even listened to this most of the time during a trip in a high lake in Italy (years ago) . I even had this on my playlist during a boat trip and listened to tough about it when i saw lands . I'm doing a bit of a monologue here but i just want you know that i adore this track ... And i know i'll still come here years from now , this music has become special to me . Thank you so much and great job !

EPIC! Loved Link's Awakening
I was...:underwhelmed by this track in the remake. All I kept thinking was “this is ok, but man...The Second Narrator really captured the essence of the original better!” I even muted my tv while in tal tal and put this on.
This is very telling.
You should totally do Crystalis, idk if you've played it but kinda like Link's Awakening I think it's a black sheep of the fantasy game family that needs a little more love and definitely has a soundtrack that could give a lot of space for talent like this to do some wild stuff.

This arrangement (and indeed the original BGM) has a very "New Game Plus" feel to it in that it is the sort of music you'd hear upon embarking on the same adventure for a second time to set things right.

Beginning - Holy crap so epic, immediately into favorites and my hype playlist
In between - Eh, getting a bit muddled, not sure what to feel.
1:30 - Oh frig yes.
2:15 - Alright, alright. Good stuff. Not great, but there will be plenty of filler in this marathon of a song.
2:42 - Really like what you did here. Some key changes / melodic changes. Representing the difficulty of the mountain's trials for Link maybe? It's no cakewalk.
3:40 - :( Liked how you matched the mood of the video feed.
4:23 - And there it is again, that excellent instrument choice.
5:10 - Again, good stuff. But at this point I'm wishing it was a bit shorter. I mean, even the Zelda 25th Anniversary soundtracks aren't longer than 3-5 minutes unless it's a medley.
6:59 - Still good, but now I'm really wishing it was shorter. Hype cannot persist this long.
8:22 - Great buildup for the ending.
8:35 - This variation is really cool. But then...it repeats? I don't understand why you chose to have such a long song, a veritable epic piece, but then have a fadeout at the end instead of a suitably epic finish?
Overall, awesome job. REALLY love the beginning.

I recently started my channel because I want to create my own arrangements (I'll update it soon). At the moment I'm writing an arrangement for the Mother/EarthBound series. Maybe you know or maybe you don't? It's a great franchise and it has some of the best OST out there. TLoZ is also on my list because it's my favorite franchise and your Link's Awakening arrangements are a real inspiration!
It's going to be a medley of all 3 games (about 15-20 songs will be used). I want to be as faithful as I can to the origional OST. The question that always comes up with me is 'what would it sound like back in the day when they had the programs we have today?'.
I have a keyboard, a drumkit and a bass guitar available for it but I have no idea which digital recorder and program I need for it.
I hope you can tell me which digital recorder and program are a good choice?
