I use a Preppy every day and have found Platinum carbon ink provides a darker and smoother experience.

I blast through too much ink to invest in good expensive ink 😂
I daily a Metropolitan and a fixed up Jinhao 336, and go through a 50ml bottle in a matter of months because of the amount of writing i currently do.
But oh the carbon black looks so enticing...

I actually got into fountain pens because I was at the mall that had a Muji store and a stationery store called Amax. Bought myself a Preppy at Amax and got some Muji paper for it! (I didn't see this pen at the Muji store)
Like you said, easy way to get into fountain pens haha

This is basically the Kokuyo X Platinum Preppy Perpanep Fountain Pen but slightly different style. I have both the Muji aluminum fountain pen and this one, and definitely prefer this one.

Some years back I bought a Platinum Preppy out of curiosity. It's a nice writer. It's supposed to be disposable but I never disposed of it - I just refill the cartridge with a syringe. Looking at this video I pulled it out of the drawer where it has been sitting for probably a year and it wrote right away! It's a cool little pen and because it's inexpensive and very basic it's easy to dismiss, but it's quite good.

A year or so ago, I bought a 3-pack of a pen called “perpanep”. Found it On Amazon. It was an opaque white Preppy. Claimed to be a collaboration of Preppy and another unnamed company. Love them! One day I got bored of my plain white one and just took my black preppy barrel and combined it with a white perpanep cap. Beautiful two-tone pen and very classy looking. Used a gold preppy converter and it holds my yummy “witches brew” combo of brown inks. Heaven in a pen!!! Merry Christmas everyone! Thanks Duddlebud for your wonderful channel! 🤶🙋🏼‍♀️❤️🖋👏👍🎥🎄🎁

I bought this pen - the cartridges are kind of garbage, the ink skips and comes to a dead stop on waxier paper. Once I got a converter and a bottle of ink, it’s absolutely amazing, a pleasure to write with.

Yes, an ink upgrade makes it much better. Not the best ink that is included with the pen

I understand your handwriting feeling different with these pens. The nib tipping is particularly ball shaped. Not like a lot of other fine or extra fine pens. A good feature for beginners though.

I love the idea of the cheep and cheerful pens, But i do Find them too be very light too and its not the best experience if too light. It’s a Goldilocks situation …. Not too light, not too heavy they have to be ‘Just Right’. Thanks for the great Videos :)

Never liked the look and feel of the Preppy, so I never bought one.
But I quite like my Platinum Prefounte with the M nib. I use the proprietary Platinum cartridge which is of really good quality and reliable. I’ve dedicated the pen to Noodler’s BSB.

Hi Doodlebud. With regards to this Fountain Pen from Muji... I don't know if it's like a Platinum Preppy. Why?
You do not explain in this video the most important part of the Platinum Preppy... what is it's most important feature? (Besides it's Japanese nibs and overall amazing performance for being a school fountain pen in Japan)...
The closing mechanism of its cap! The Platinum Preppy, being such a cheap Fountain Pen will NOT dry up on you for very extended periods of time (months! In my case, without using them and filled up). Unlike almost any other fountain pen that I know of and that I own (I have 4 Preppys and besides my TWSBI ECO, almost every other fountain pen in my collection always dries up - at least the nib and in need to restarting and cleaning).
So... I don't know, from your video, if this could be considered a Platinum Preppy.
    Cheers!

    • @jaimejaime1178
      @jaimejaime1178 6 місяців тому +2

I forgot to say that Platinum Preppys are made for students in high school in Japan (my sister is married to one and my big As for to school in Japan). And their sealing cap is made in a way so the ink dies not dry out easily at least from the nib, because students need a fountain pen that will always right when needed.
And yes! Platinum Preppys are very cheap! But they are way better than many other more expensive fountain pens, which is just and simply amazing (in comparison).
I am a Fountain Pen lover for over 40 years and Preppys ALWAYS perform great! Something to think about in the Fountain Pen world.

mine is arrived today, so what I can say after 30 mins: 1) something shaking inside - ok that's ball inside the cartridge 2) polycarbonate color not so white that I expected (like AirPods case as example), 3) poor black color ink cartridges, it almost grey (and Muji wants 5$ for 2 of these?!). 4) polycarbonate at the cap has different colours, the clip is more cold, other cap is more warm. Like it just replaced clip (and produced at other factory from other plastic lol) from perpanep pen. Really not what I expected from x5 price preppy pen, but the white polycarbonate case and pen at all finished at good level (and for that price you get 2 white colors in 1 lol, luxury). The F nib (0.3) is to dry for me (almost with that grey ink), seller said that's M (0.5), but no..

I love the Preppies, but boy are they, um, well, their looks just scream “cheap pen”. It’s fair. That is what they are, but they are so fun to write with I tend to use them lots and sometimes, I don’t want to call attention to my more Yankee sensibilities. :-). I will look for these Musi pens!

The cap is made of 2 different shades of plastic. The clip is white, the rest of the pen is more grey. Looks disgusting considering the cost x5 of a regular preppy just for a white color (two colours haha). It’s as if they just took the perpanep, made a clip at another factory, and put it together. You can see it at 1:06.

  • @ichirofakename

Thanks for the show. Though to my eye it is even more boring than a real Preppy.
