      Qui-Gon was right even after Anakin fell to the dark side, he redeemed himself through his son Luke and turned good. Padme believed her love was good and would come back with her dying breath. Anakin murdering Palpatine is actually so much more emotional after watching the prequels, as is Obi-Wan’s death in A New Hope. As for Revenge of the Sith, it may not be perfect but it really did bridge the gap in the series quite nicely and everything interconnected very well. There's the main one that says he'll destroy the Sith and bring balance to the force, and a bunch of other smaller ones that explain why multiple characters claim Anakin is prophesized to do different things: they've heard different additional prophecies.

  • @lordmortarius538
    @lordmortarius538 2 роки тому +77

    There are a variety of factors that lead to Anakin's turning to the Dark Side: his view of the Dark Side as just another tool and not as an inherently corruptive force; seeing the corruption in the Senate and in the Republic's dealings with the Outer Rim planets, which it exploits for resources while the Jedi look the other way; the way the Jedi keep trying to force him to be this emotionless drone without actually addressing the very valid issues he has; no one going back to Tatooine to friggin free his mom, FFS. He sees the hypocrisy of the Republic and of the Jedi for what it is, and he doesn't buy in to their incessant virtue-signaling, knowing that the 'good' guys do lots of bad shit too and justify it in the name of 'peace'.
    Obi-Wan was also a very strict teacher after he took him on as a padawan, which is how Anakin developed that huge chip on his shoulder; everyone telling him he's THE CHOSEN ONE, and yet Obi-Wan is always shitting on him for not being good enough (Obi-Wan was also just barely out of training himself, mind, and was definitely not ready to take on an apprentice). If Qui-Gon had lived, things would have turned out very differently as he was definitely more of a father figure and seasoned mentor for Anakin. It's not until after Shmi is killed that Obi-Wan softens his approach, but the damage has already been done.
    Yoda also does him no favors when Anakin opens up to him and Yoda's like "nah fam, all that shit you're worried about? Just get rid of it". Obviously that's not an option, but Yoda doesn't know the full story so gives bad advice without digging any further. Mace Windu is also not exactly someone who should be handling him either, as he is a practitioner of a dangerous discipline that utilizes the Dark side without succumbing to it (hence his purple lightsaber). Constantly being a dick to someone isn't going to make them want to do what you say :P
    Sidious has been grooming him the entire time as well, cultivating a friendship with him, and sending him visions of his mom and of Padme dying to kind of herd him along the path he wants him to go down. Anakin has also expressed disdain for democracy as he has seen the gridlock in the Senate that continues to see nothing get done for anyone, and kind of falls into the Megatron line of "Peace through tyranny"
    Then, when he sees Master Windu doing the exact thing he berated himself for doing to Tyrannus as 'not the Jedi way', with Windu basically telling him that it was wrong for HIM to do it, but now it's ok because it's the Sith Lord... the hypocrisy is too much for him to take. This and the attack on the man he considers his father figure convinces him that the Jedi are actually evil.
    Taking all of this into account, is it really surprising that he chose the Dark side? In his view, he's now able to ACTUALLY get shit done, punish those who deserve it, and not play into the hypocrisy of the Jedi anymore. His views are only reinforced when Obi-Wan shows up and instantly condemns him instead of, you know, asking what he's thinking and why, and offering to help. He just says "Only a Sith deals in absolutes" (itself an absolutism) and squares up. WTF do you think the reaction to that is gonna be? :P
    IMO the Jedi got what they deserved, and yes, while Sidious/The Emperor is pure evil, Anakin was not, and if he had actually succeeded in overthrowing his master (which he did try to do, but failed), things might have been very different.
    Anakin Skywalker's story is a tragedy of galactic proportions.
    Also, R2 never stays with the ship in the original trilogy because the last time someone told him to, it was Anakin on Mustafar, and he never came back :(

    • @cyberneticbutterfly8506

      The reason the Jedi are hypocritical is that the story is written from the perspective of a mixture of religious and philosophical views of the term "wisdom" that has influenced George Lucas.
      E.g. The "wise master" from eastern lore that speaks in riddles and finds convoluted rationalizations.
      The story would be written differently if it wasn't influenced by this.
      "wisdom" is just *poetic-sounding words* to *rationalize* religion and philosophy that doesn't have a leg to stand on.
      This *vagueness* is needed for religions and philosophies to be right every time.
      This of course is mimicked by George Lucas in the way Jedi speak and act in the "master and apprentice" paradigm.
      It is also used to justify the Jedi Order traditions by making similarities to monk orders or other "orders" in earth society, or powerful characters in fiction that stereotypically try to "not intervene in society" due to dubious rationalizations.
      It's also a known TV trope. "Tropes of Wisdom" you can search for it.
      Only when knowledge becomes clear and in tune with reality does it become science or knowledge. Actually useful verifiable and without vagueness.
      I suppose there is real wisdom sometimes among the fake wisdom but very few people are even aware of the existence of the latter and keep mixing the two.

    Aayla Secura (the female jedi at 21:03) was very, very respected among her troops, and even the other units she fought alongside. In regards to that, there's a theory circulating that because she was so beloved by her soldiers, the clones fired as many shots as quickly as possible so she wouldn't suffer as much. They had to follow the order, but they tried to make sure she died as quickly and relatively painlessly as possible.

    @natejenkins8645 2 роки тому +15

    Great reaction! Fun fact about Anakin/Vader. As a punishment for losing to Obi-Wan, the Emperor purposely had Vader’s suit made using very low quality material. The suit itself caused Vader excruciating pain literally every second he had it on, but this served a purpose as well. The more pain Vader was in, the angrier he would get and thus this would fuel his power in the dark side. In the original “legends” timeline of Star Wars (which isn’t canon anymore), Vader’s suit itself was so large, clumsy, and heavy that Vader had to use the force to simply walk. I forgot how tall Anakin was as a Jedi knight but when he gets put in the suit the helmet is so large that Anakin’s height (while in the suit) increases to at least 6 feet 8 inches tall ( I read somewhere that he could’ve been 7 feet tall while in the suite as well). Since Disney has the rights to Star Wars now, they’ve changed a lot of the lore so all the “ legends” stuff is no longer canon. In the current Star Wars canon I know Vader’s suit still causes him severe pain but I’m not sure if the suit is as ungainly as it is in the “ legends” continuity.

    It's not really mentioned but the impression I get is that Sidious (emperor) has honed a dark side power that allows him to cloud the force instincts of others around him. This allowed him to sit in a room with Yoda repeatedly and never have his nature be discovered, and how he managed to dispatch 3 of the jedi Windu had with him so quickly. Sidious wasn't a fan of using a lightsaber, preferring the force and subterfuge as his tools, but he was very skilled in its use should it be required. The reason Windu was able to win that fight was because he had mastered a very rare lightsaber form that let him draw strength from his opponent, even dark side power.
    Darth Vader's suit was far from state of the art. It was very heavy and left him in constant pain and discomfort. Sidious chose this suit for him on purpose as a kind of punishment for his failure on Mustafar and also to keep him in check, because he knew how powerful he was and wasn't interested in being supplanted by Vader at any point. He never taught Vader how to use force lightning (and the fact that both of his hands were mechanical would probably make that hard to do anyway).
    Also, Anakin's visions of Padme dying were likely created by Sidious to drive him in the direction he wanted. Darth Plageuis was in fact Sidious' master. Apparently he killed him around the same time Darth Maul was fighting Kenobi and Qui-Gon. I don't think Darth Maul was every really intended to be a Sith lord, more just a precision instrument that Sidious wanted to use for his plans.

Not to mention it is top notch Star Wars content, building on the history, politics and lore, and will introduce you to characters you will eventually see in The Mandalorian and other live action shows coming out. The first two seasons are pretty slow, so it wouldn't be bad to start at season 3 if you feel pressed for time; there are a lot of episodes.

    What I love about this movie is that it really shows the tragedy of Darth Vader, but more importantly, it makes his redemption even more powerful. Luke wanting to see the good out of the evil of killing the Jedi, younglings, and especially if you tie in Rogue One, Rebels, and his various adventures after Order 66, Vader shouldn't deserve redemption; but, Luke is the spark of hope- the inner strength not to give in to Palpatine in ROTJ that Anakin failed to do here, that being a father ultimately brought the return of Anakin... beautiful storytelling. My running theory is that Anakin's choke didn't kill Padme, nor did her loss of hope. I think Sideous drained the life from Padme to keep Vader alive. Sideous is so quick to tell Vader HE killed her, yet the medic-droid says specifically "For reasons we can't explain, we are losing her."
    It's clearly referenced that Sideous was the apprentice of Darth Plagueis, so he knew a way of restoring life, but only in an unnatural way.

    The only thing I miss in this movie is a short scene inside the jedi temple when it gets attacked. Like Anakin just walks to the librarian or the first jedi and straight up goes for the kill in front of other who didn't realized the menace. I know there is the part with the kids but it's not the same symbolic violence between killing children offscreen and betraying those that think you are an ally, face to face.

    There’s a theory (no idea if it’s confirmed in the larger canon) that Padmé dies because the midi-chlorians were diverted from her to keep Anakin alive. The story Palpatine tells Anakin about Darth Plagueis about saving someone from death is something Anakin didn’t use… not directly anyway.

    Now we can finally tell you: The Emperor lied. The powers to use the force to create life, it never did that at all, rather it was the power to siphon life from one person in order to restore life to another. Did you pick up how the robot doctors couldn't figure out why they were losing Padme?
    It's because in order to save the life of Darth Vader, Sideous used the dark side of the force to siphon the life out of Padme and into Vader.

    • @mitromney
      @mitromney 2 роки тому +21

      Lmao. Nice headcanon there. That's not true. The power to create life does exist. This is how Anakin was born. Remember - he had no father. He was a dark side experiment of either Plagueis or Sidious from the start. Padme died out of grief. As much as people hate on that, it's actually a valid cause of death. Your psyche can go through an experience so traumatic that the stress literally kills you. It does clinically happen, though it's very rare and usually there are other secondary factors. But I'd say child birth is enough of a secondary factor as far as physical strain goes. Plenty of women died from childbirth alone.

      The Emperor seduced Anakin by manipulating the story of Plagueis. Plagueis attempted initially to create a being who could serve him, and the force fought back against Plagueis which created Anakin. Anakin is a created being. The Emperor then tells Anakin that Plagueis couldn't save himself without telling him that he got Plagueis incredibly drunk and then killed him with lightning in his sleep. Plagueis wakes up in his agony only to die at the Emperor's hands. Notice the Emperor never says who the apprentice was. We learn later that Palpatine wasn't fully lying about there not being a way of preserving life, but the means are sure interesting. Also, George Lucas confirmed himself that Padme did die of heartbreak, so although the fanfiction theory of Palpatine taking her life is plausible, it isn't what happened.

    A little backstory for this film:
    Grievous got his cough from Mace Windu. While he was down on Coruscant he was sent to "kidnap" the Chancellor (obviously staged). While returning to his ship, Mace almost caught up with Grievous. As he was entering the ship, Mace quickly force crushed his chest plating, damaging his lungs and giving him his cough, but Grievous quickly recovered and managed to avoid Mace and get away with his ship. Anakin was indeed the Chosen One, but that doesn't mean what you think it means. In truth the prophecy was misread. The real prophecy was that bringing "balance" to the force means eliminating all Jedi and all Sith alike till there is an equal amount of Jedi and Sith. That's why sometimes there are wars between the Jedi and Sith all of it to correct the imbalance in the force. With out balance the universe will simply collapse into chaos and destruction. The only way to not have war to perfect the imbalance is with being a so called "Grey Jedi". Grey Jedi are Jedi which don't only use the light side but also the dark. Not only do they maintain balance in that way but it is also helpful to the force user cause in life there must always be moderation. Anakin was technically conceived from the force to perfect the imbalance as there was 10,000 Jedi and only 2 Sith at the time he was born. So in some way Anakin was right all this time. The clones attacked the Jedi because of the Sith's involvement in their creation. Count Dooku requested the Kaminoans to put inhibitor chips inside their brain. So when Palpatine said "Execute Order 66" he activated the chips and the chips took control of their minds killing all the Jedi. There is also this interesting theory that says that during the process of Anakin being put into the suit, the Emperor was stealing the life force of Padme and giving it to Anakin so he would survive and killing Padme in the process.

    There was really no holding back from Obi Wan. He uses Form-III fightning style what is basicaly a pure defensive style. You can see in all of his fights he always backpedals until he has an upper hand or sees an opportunity to strike.
    Anakin use Form V what is a mixture between power attacks, defense and immidiate counter attack. Sooner or later Anakin would have overpower Obi without the high ground "perk"
    Windu use Form VII what is the most offensive and hardest to master as a jedi because that form use passion and fury in the attacks what is dangerous for a jedi to use.
    Palpatine use Form VII, though he masters every other style as well but his force powers are even more formidable so he prefer to use those instead.

    This is my favorite Star Wars movie by far. I grew up as the prequels we’re releasing and was constantly rewatching them and playing LEGO Star Wars lol. I just love the overall feeling and setting of the prequels the best. Plus this movie was just a banger.
    You should really watch The Clone Wars as that is some of the best Star Wars content ever made and I think you’d really like it. It’s true the first like 2.5 seasons are more childish but that doesn’t mean they’re bad. There are some really good episodes and storyline arcs in those first 2.5 seasons. As the show went on it aged with its audience which is why it gets more and more mature over time.
    Plus I really feel like you’d love all the clones (specifically ones like Rex and Fives) and Ahsoka. And if you do enjoy The Clone Wars you could also watch Rebels. People say Rebels is a little weaker than TCW but personally I liked it just as much. It also ties in a lot with the new live action shows and especially some of the upcoming ones.
    If you’re gonna keep going through the rest of the movies and the live action shows, both TCW and Rebels provide a ton of background information and world building for them. If you do start watching, make sure to watch TCW in the chronological order listed on the Star Wars website. You also don’t need to watch TCW movie as it’s not that good and it’s pretty long. The only important thing it really does is introduce Ahsoka as Anakin’s padawan.
