She'd have sanctified him in American media if he'd have done it with a tray of catholic wafers or a flacid loaf of unleavened bread. But, carbs on the face of a popstar without first dipping them in diet coke? Blasphemy, the plastic surgery damages to consider, alone.
Art must have layered meaning and not just because you hate your own body so much you need to get the carbs off your own plate.
You want to see people truly galvanized in Madonna's narcisstic wrath, go check out the oprah interview from the 90's with her sister or any interview with her brother after their mutually-beneficial career break.

Its a shame they didnt get on because Amy wouldve looked INCREDIBLE in McQueen, the early slim tailored dresses wouldve been incredible on her. But maybe its exactly their similarity as to why they didnt get on, just like me and my dad 😶‍🌫️

    • @maebandy
      @maebandy 2 роки тому +8

We hate those we similarities in, it shows us just where we are weak. And the less powerful of the paradigm feels a betrayal in that. Because what else could you feel from someone who knows you as well as you know yourself?
The rest of the world can be forgiven or ignored. Their experience is from another perspective and so can't be expected to understand your pain.
But, if you've got another succesful social outcast, body loathing, hurt kid at a party and they pick on you, because only they can see how you are weak. That's beyond pain, that's betrayal. Had he sent himself and not a dress, they might have helped one another to save them from themselves.

Interesting fact about Amy’s death- she actually had quit drinking for a little bit beforehand. Obviously she relapsed and went on a binge. She drank a ton of vodka, an amount she had previously been able to. Because she’d taken a break, her tolerance has decreased drastically and she likely didn’t understand that drinking the same amount she had in the height of her alcohol use would ultimately cause her body to shut down. Same thing happened to Bradley of Sublime. Had been clean off heroin but wanted a special occasion night of fun but he used to the level that his tolerance has previously been able to take and he overdosed. Very sad. Winehouse was a bulimic since her early teens, suffered drug abuse, alcoholism, emotional trauma and the body is resilient and tries to balance out the damage by compensating in otherwise unsustainable ways. The problem with quickly removing one component of a perilously balanced system, is that it causes the whole thing to collapse. And the weakened blood vessels, gastric lining of an ed sufferer compiled with alcohol overcomsumption is deadly especially if they are feeling such misguided self-loathing for all the calories they just drank.
Overdoses in former addicts occur because the bodies tolerance for drugs has lessened but the sufferers mental anguish and their appetite to drown it out has not.

Basically they were probably very similar in temperament and being British and adding alcohol and drugs etc adds fuel to the fire. You have to understand British people to think this is completely unsurprisingly. I reckon if they had both lived they would have become friends or at least civil when older. What a shame.

    • @maebandy

Oh they were twin flames all right and had everything to gain and lose by becoming friends. Two successful miscreants, unabashed in their own art forms to call attention to unseemly social pain? Everyone around them had reason to incite this fued, people who profit off other's misery, which only continues when they feel alone.

I would've loved to see how this drug dealer, sorry fashion stylist friend of their's come post-mortem narrator to the daily news actually handled his intermediary role at the time when they were alive. Was he screwing Lee when he was 5lbs overweight or being besties with Amy when her needle marks were hanging out? Subutex is a helpful co-therapeutic to trauma aware methodologies which most in Amy's position are egodystonic of. Her trust was too broken to use a pill to solve problems especially when handed to her by a person her broken trust was partially resultant from.

Thank you for this video! As you can tell by my profile photo, I'm a HUGE Amy fan! I had V.I.P. tickets to see her in 2007 but she had cancelled her US tour to enter rehab for the second time I think. When 'Rehab' was the big song and I'd be at the bar or club and it would come on my friends would say "Holly! It's your song!" LMFAO! I never had the chance to see her again and I would have probably met her too cuz I had VIP and they were pretty expensive tickets (a guy that liked me had paid for them lol) I was waiting for a train when I got the call from my boyfriend that she had been found dead :( I nearly fell to my knees! I cried that entire rest of the day! I could relate to Amy in so many ways (the substance abuse/alcoholism and mental health issues) and I also had a similar relationship with a guy around the same time she was with Blake. We're also both Virgos, the same age (I'm 10 days older than her). I instantly felt a connection to her the moment I heard her music and she will always be a legend and a Queen! R.I.P. Amy!

Sometimes I think... this woman would have made even more BEAUTIFUL MUSIC. 😌 out of all these "celebrities" and "artists" she was different. Real, authentic, relatable, talented, an angel. Poor girl just need some help. I don't think her rapid growth in popularity helped her.

When I think of this kind of cross pop cultural fashion drama, I think of Karl Lagerfeld. It seems like he crossed swords with everyone, and hutch might just be a consequence of his being on the scene for as long as he was-it was bound to happen, sooner or later. He was also inspired/attracted to some troubled/temperamental pop stars; I bet there are some stories there if people have shared them.
Also, anyone who got close to Grace Jones probably has stories; Interview magazine from the 1980s and 1990s is a great resource (plus they’re fun to collect. I think there might be an online archive too, but those large format magazines are just so cool):
She’s amazing, and she doesn’t pull punches.

Amy felt hurt and betrayed by someone she felt should have had her misfit back. To have sent her an item especially one as considerate of her style as the black tulle overlay bubble hem dress in the second collection mentioned, without in-person apology would feel like another slap in the face. Kind of like "Oh, so you do get me, we are the same, yet you used me to temporarily level yourself with the elitists responsible for our pain? And now that my fame is profitable for you, you wish to apologize with like a cheating husband trying to halt divorce papers by sending lavish gifts? Go eff your couture and probably fake diamonds, come crawl at my dramatic feet if you're at all sorry for the humiliation that you caused.".
Amy was a real one. Unhinged, dramatic, self-indulgent of her pain. But, you goddamn know that tardy Naomi huffed out of that fashion show with as many pieces as she could stuff in her assistant's bag. And sold/gifted them to the likes of Ghislane Maxwell or a Saudi Princess for real blood diamonds she could squirrel away in her take no prisoners bespoke by Satan, heart shaped purse.

@@espeon871 you have to give it a visual imagining. Naomi backstage, tardy as usual, denied despite her godliness. (Have you not heard of her physical antics upon subordinates?)
She, by her own justification, makes the most out of every situation because everyone is making the most money off of her. I'm not speaking out of turn, I'm speaking out of possession by the spirit of the goddess herself.
It's not madness or a sign of need for medical intervention, it's empathy. Just because you don't get the cultural reference doesn't make it crazy.
