A really nice ballad from David Gates, the lead singer of Bread. One of my favourites is by them called 'Baby I'm a want you'. Also 'Guitar man'. Love his voice-Colin Ward
David Gates lives the perfect life still married to his high school sweetheart Jo Rita since 1959 raising 4 successful children. 3 of them lawyers and 1 a Cardiothoracic Surgeon. Pretty awesome life. Outstanding singer/songwriter
Another great David Gates song! "It Don't Matter to Me" was Bread's first hit & still gives me goosebumps. Early in Bread's career they also had two banging rock songs: "Mother Freedom" and "Let Your Love Go"
Hello. I am new to this channel, but I had to post. I have spent the past few days recovering from surgery. I discovered you by clicking on a video to listen to a song I haven't heard in years. I think it was The Carpenters. I found myself clicking on another, then another... Anyway, I just want to tell you how much your family has blessed my heart. I am going to be 55 tomorrow, and seeing young people develop a love for this music has made me so happy. Amber, like me, you seem to have a soft spot in your heart for simple love songs. You may enjoy Kathy Mattea singing "eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses." The only way I can describe it is to say it is just so sweet. Thanks for being a light in this world. God Bless you and your whole family. Jennifer
My favorite song from him is Goodbye Girl!! I have loved that song since it came out in 1978. I have never listened to him as much until you started reacting to his songs. Thank you for doing so.
Such a pure voice! Jay and Amber... for Female Friday, please re-visit SHEENA EASTON... so many 80's hits... a highly underrated singer with incredible pipes for ballads ("For Your Eyes Only", "Almost Over You") to fun pop ("The Lover In Me", "Strut"). You won't be sorry diving further into her catalog!
Amber: You still haven't done Never Let Her Go - a top ten hit from 1976 by David Gates. It is SO beautiful! As you would expect from Bread's lead singer, it is the softest of soft rock. *Too bad you don't have a Soft Rock Sunday.* I've got literally hundreds of suggestions!
One of my song of David Gates "Take me now" i always listen to this song. And I also suggest to listen more of David Gates songs like "Never Let Her Go", "Suite Clouds Rain" and "Lorilee".
It's hard to believe that David Gates is 83 years old. When David was 21-22 years old he wrote a real nice song for the girl group The Murmaids in '63 titled "Popsicles And Icicles." Amber, this is a great song for your "All Girls Friday Night" videos.
David Gates: FIND ME SUITE: CLOUDS/RAIN NEVER LET HER GO I CAN'T FIND THE WORDS TO SAY GOODBYE I CAN'T PLAY THE SONGS Bread: SWEET SURRENDER LOST WITHOUT YOUR LOVE HOOKED ON YOU JUST LIKE YESTERDAY YOURS FOR LIFE GAMES OF MAGIC FRIENDS AND LOVERS TOO MUCH LOVE SHE'S THE ONLY ONE LOOK WHAT YOU'VE DONE LET YOUR LOVE GO DOWN ON MY KNEES...
The end of the song with all instruments coming in, makes think of grand songs like "John Miles - Music (was my first love)" and "Paul McCartney - We all stand together"
So glad you both reacted to this song. I was a freshman in HS when it came out and I was obsessed. Jay, you were spot on when you said it was climactic which is the exact reason I fell in love with it! Love you both!
David Gates 1. Took the Last Train 2. Suite: Cloud Rain Bread Rockers : 1. Mother freedom 2. Let your Love Go All four songs are charted in the American Top 40/100
Staying with Oklahoma musicians- JJ Cale , and more Leon Russell, Elvin Bishop , not to mention one of the great jazz trumpeters from my hometown of Yale Ok ,Chet Baker
Took the Last Train by David Gates was a hit that reached no.30 at the American Top 40 in 1978. Its a catchy song, very good vocals with excellent instrumentations. Bread's The Chosen One was not released as a single but David said it is one of his favorite. You will never regret listening to it
Some Bread suggestions, "Let Your Love Go" & "Dismal Day" are songs you might find interesting as they're more up tempo than the ones you've reacted to so far. I'd also like to suggest a couple of Bread songs featuring Jimmy Griffin on lead vocals, "Look What You've Done" and "Truckin'". Griffin was a talented singer/songwriter in his own right but was understandably overshadowed by Gates' amazing talent and went rather unappreciated IMO.
Amber holds my heart. Been bread fan since my teens. 80$ was my decade of teens but, Bread stood out. Still listen to. Dave Gates crafted great songs. My fav Baby-im-- a want you, too short of song but delivers classic Gates style
Hey guys. With the passing of Robbie Robertson today can you listen to his song "Showdown at Big Sky" or "Somewhere Down the Crazy River" off his EPIC solo album. He was a founding member of the iconic The Band.
Hey guys, I have a big rabbit hole for you guys to go down. It has to do with the tv show Miami Vice. It was so groundbreaking at the time. Jan Hammer did the music for the show and they actually released the theme song to the show as a single. Check it out. It’s an extended version of the actual theme. Look for Jan hammer- Miami vice theme, there were also a ton of songs featured by artists of the time. They did a whole episode around smugglers blues by Glenn Fry. His song you belong to the city was also featured. Here are a couple other songs that got big exposure in the show that you’d like- Lunatic fringe- red rider Welcome to the boomtown- David and David Cry - godley and crème Voices- Russ Ballard
Hey guys! Ive tried sending you a link but it wouldn't let me for some reason so I figured l'd go on your latest song post When you get a chance listen to Happy 70th Birthday Bob Marley. A bunch of singers get together & instead of playing instruments, they make the music with their mouths! This is incredible & a definite must see!!!
I gave loved Bread for as long as I can remember. They do have 3 other members beside Mr Gates, and they sing on songs also. I would like to see you feature some of these. Suggestions: Be Kind To Me, Too Much Love, Truckin', Dream Lady, Dream Lady and Just Like Yestrday.
What I love about older songs of my generation, is that for the most part, the sexual innuendos were a lot more subtle. The message was clear if you were old enough to understand what the songwriter was saying via innuendos and metaphors that peppered their lyrics, but nothing like many singers of today using vulgar words leaving nothing to the imagination.
Rob Squad:: You’ve already done BTO and The Stampeders, then please take a look at another Canadian band with the best of the best music from the 1970’s>> The Cooper Brothers:: “Rock and Roll Cowboys”, “The Dream Never Dies”, “I'll Know Her When I See Her”, and “Show Some Emotion”.
Excellent, one of my favorites is Guitar Man. I am a bit partial I guess because I play guitar and have 24 guitars myself. Lol. Myself and my wife are recent subscribers and watch you both almost daily. We have a whole list of tunes for you to check out and know you will like.
He has a song called Find Me. The video I saw was when he was older and is my favorite of his solo stuff. Oh and he is a cowboy. ua-cam.com/video/D24f4CA4FQA/v-deo.html . Here is a link
Oh man, If y’all haven’t done “Diary” yet, you’ve absolutely got to go there man!! If that one bring a tear to your eyes man I’m telling ya’!! When me and my youngest sister Meredith would be sitting around the record player taking turns playing 45’s (we were both in grade school then when Bread was cranking out the hits) and she would inevitably get to that song which was her favorite back, I would always roll my eyes🙄and complain “Awe come on! That one again but secretly I loved it to🤭✌️🫶
One of the most hilarious moments in the Romcom Maid in Manhattan is when Ralph Fiennes character asks the ten year old in the elevator what he's listening to and the kid removes his headphones and says "The Best of Bread," and you can hear the song coming through the headphones. Great characterisation to establish this kid was different. That movie came out in 2003.
This is the first time I've heard this song. I wonder how I missed it? If it was just part of an album, I can see why I've never heard it. But if it was released as a single, I should've heard it at least once in the last 40 years wouldn't ya think? Anyway, it's always nice to discover a good song. 😊
For a great storytelling song that has resonance for all time IMO, listen to Cats in the Cradle by Harry Chapin. It will give you major vibes especially since you now have a son.
Glad you like David Gates and Bread. Looking forward to more. Please listen to Mother Freedom from 1971 for a different side of the band. You will be surprised.
The title track to David's fifth solo album, it has SOME Bread influence, as Larry Knechtel is playing the piano. That said, I prefer Bread as a group because of the harmonies. Sorry, Jordan. What a pleasant surprise great song by David Gates. But if you really liked this one, you will love the goodbye girl I’m sure I’m not the only one who has told you this.
Need to listen to, Diary, Too much, It Don’t Matter to Me, Daughter, Down on My Knees, Mother Freedom, Sweet Surrender, Look What You’ve Done, The Last Time
@YT_Rob_Squad_Reactions With that being said, the song Hedonism is an emotional rock ballad by Skin, one of the few (maybe only 1) commercially successful black female singers of that genre.
hi k i have an interesting one for female friday daniella tuleshova audition stone cold at 11 years old , she sounded like a 30 yr old pro , she is incredible - won the thing
You still haven't checked out one of Bread's biggest hits "It Don't Matter to Me."
Yesyesyesyesyes!! “It Don’t Matter to Me”
"Diary" is absolutely fire. You definitely have to listen to the words because it will throw you for a twist. Beautiful song
A really nice ballad from David Gates, the lead singer of Bread. One of my favourites is by them called 'Baby I'm a want you'. Also 'Guitar man'. Love his voice-Colin Ward

Wow, that's incredible for anyone, especially an entertainer! 😊
Jay & Amber, you loved his "Goodbye Girl", now do the movie ' The Goodbye Girl', which had that one as the theme song.
They've already done that one, as they noted in the video.

So many great songs came from that group...even today they're all just such easy listening
My idea of love is the essence of David Gates' voice.
How I never heard this song before, I'll never know, but I'm so grateful!! 😍🥰
Y'all gotta do Diary by Bread.
It's one of the most beautiful heartbreak songs ever.
An absolute Fact!
David Gates had such a wonderful voice. Reminds me of my teenage years and listening to Bread.
You really need to listen to the song Clouds Suite by David Gates.
An absolutely masterpiece!!
"Take Me Now" was the last single David Gates charted on the Billboard Hot 100. It peaked @ #62 in 1981.
Very nice song. Another great solo DG hit for them to hit sometime is "Never Let Her Go" from 1975. It sounds *just* like a Bread tune.
