This is fascinating on so many levels. Fenech is a sponge, some trainers are good, but from his instruction it’s easy to understand why Steward made as much money training as guys did fight. Dude had zero professional fights yet boxing gave him a collection of Mansions and Rolls Royce’s. Loved him as a commentator he was so into into fights. They way he reacted during the Toney/Jurov fight sums it all up.
R.I.P Johny Lewis, Emanual Steward. The two greatest minds in boxing's history! No one teaches like this anymore, so much of the old school boxing fundamentals have been lost to this generation.

this dude turned so many right hands into bombs tommy hearns u can say lennoix lewis. or atleast polished lewis. not just the right hands he is one of the best trainers of all time thats for sure. i was just thinking someone needs to make a movie about emanual with a real actor i think that would be cool.
Not one of the best...actually the best. Records has it that he trained 41 title winners in different weight categories...no trainer evr had that record.
He was interesting to boxing folks but he’s not interesting enough to make a movie about. Plus he made some questionable decisions for some of his fighters as well. The way that he treated McCallum for instance. He was highly regarded as a trainer but his fighters with the exception of McClellan and Hearns were For the most part boring guys to watch. As a purist I enjoyed watching his guys fight but his training style turned some entertaining guys into boring fighters. Nasim Hamed was one of the most entertaining fighters of all time. When Steward hooked up with him I figured he was going to take him to that next level. Turns out what made Hamed good and entertaining was coached out of him. And what he did with Klitschko is admirable but Jesus Christ watching his earlier fights and then his fights after hooking up with Steward are night and day. The guy knew how to win but he didn’t really produce can’t miss fights. Exceptions to the rule obviously with guys like Hearns and McClellan. From what I gathered he was a bit of a money grabber, made some shit decisions that pissed a lot of people off in the business. He didn’t share credit with the important guys that help him build Kronk which rubbed people wrong as well. James Toney spoke candidly about it and given that he was at that gym I tend to believe it’s not all bullshit. I don’t see what the motivation would be for Toney to lie.
@Gerald McClellan Moorer is another exception to the rule. Mike McCallum was very candid about his split and issues with Steward. He's spoken about it in the past and if you Google it you'll find that what he has to say makes sense. McCallum got other people in his ear and the rest is history.
Great trainer, great boxer right here. Manny coud train so many different types of fighters, and styles to suit that fighter's physical abilities. And Jeff Fenech was a monster, and seems to absorb instruction instantly. Really good footage I'd never saw before.
Awesome footage, I believe this was around 1995-96. Manny was training him during his comeback. Unfortunately Manny couldn't be there for his title fight against Holiday and Jonny Lewis stepped in at last minute. I was at that fight and Jeff didn't have any hunger at all when he stepped in the ring and admitted it straight after loosing. Jonny also said he didn't want Jeff in the ring as he could see the hunger wasn't there.

Emanuel always ranked Fenech very highly... too bad he caught him at the backside of his career. At his best, Fenech was an indefatigable iron chinned robot who could box a bit when he needed to... his fights against Payakaroon and Callejus are my personal faves... plus he manhandled the great Nelson in that first fight, but shipped a dubious draw decision that effectively ended his run as Jeff Fenech... but at his peak, wow, a nightmare match up for most anyone

Villisana was a 126lbs champ, Zarragoza was a 122lbs champ, and Greg "the flea" Richardson was a 118lbs champ... Jeff had already beaten all three of them... not sure anything like that has ever been done before... I'm a musician BTW, and I love Mike Patton and Mr. Bungle FWIW
