Nuur Abdullahi first of all, don’t like your own comment. Secondly, because the threat of a nuclear bomb makes leaders less likely to wage war. However, if nuclear war did break out, the consequences would be much greater. It’s not that hard a concept to understand.

one word: Nukes. Nukes are why mot major nations don't wanna f**k with one another. Cause no matter who start a war, its almost certain that everyone loses.
WiseSloth ForBernieSanders The answer is much more complicated as things like these are rarely so simple, but yes, nuclear weapons do play a vital role in the lack of war lately.
Octillerysnacker Building more nukes wouldn't change shit.. Honestly. The nations which has nukes already has enough to nuke the whole world so more nukes wouldn't help. But if you then started to gift nukes to the countries which doesn't have them yet.. Stuff would probably go really bad. There are psycho leaders out there who aren't clever enough to see what using a nuke would lead to. Nukes in the wrong hands is a no no. It is although right that the nukes around the world that exists today are helping with the world peace ^^

This video stands as proof that humanity isnt actually getting better, it is simply just harder and less usefull to start wars. Most people would still be capable of doing the same vile things that were done in the past.
The only reason that war stopped happening is the fact that nukes exist. The reasons shown in the video are actually comparatively unimportant compared to nukes, as they practically all apply in some way since the 19th century.
I thought that wars mostly stopped due to the concept of MAD (mutually assured destruction). With many global superpowers possessing nuclear weapons, a war between them would practically be the end of the world. I don’t think it’s people being nicer, but people not wanting the weather forecast to announce nuclear winter
thats what stoped us from using nuclear weapons..... wars were still fought, but the fact is that little y little humanity has become more prosperous than ever before, even if the gap between rich and normal riches has being made larger, the people cosidered poor now have more resources than the poor 30 or 40 year ago. the people getting by has expanded, people living well also, and extreme poverty was subsided for the first time in history..... thats...... before covid lockdown thats it
MAD only assures that nuclear weapons are never used. It doesn't guarantee that a war will never happen. The reason war is so rare nowadays is because every democracy is allied with largest military power in the world, and any conflict would involve the US involved in some capacity.
it's the sole reason, none of the other points would matter if another country could invade without the threat of mutually assured destruction, case in point the cold war. even after that true peace was prevented the second the monopoly on nukes was broken, hence two opposing views hence friction hence enevetible conflict. whether said conflict would be war, only time will tell
Kurzgesagt: "If we don't have one major war in the next 75 years we can be really confident humanity is changing." Reality: "War... War never changes."
@@hannes5633 The war in Ukraine is a minor conflict. We are talking about a world war, which will not happen until anti-nuke technology cancels out nukes and we return to traditional military conflicts. Or when someone makes a really, really stupid decision, which is always a possibility.
For everyone asking about NUKES - we didn't include them in the list because it is not that simple. Nuclear weapons cause war and peace, this is called the "stability-instability paradox". We didn't want to put that in there because we couldn't have done it justice. Also, this is kind of a cold war phenomenon, I wouldn't say that nuclear weapons currently prevent a war. @Ashvin Vaidyanathan Even if we agreed that the United Nations exists for 100% for that reason - is it a bad reason? Or is it your ideal that, because the former colonizing nations commited brutalities and killed millions of people - now the former victims should get their vengeance and kill some millions of them. Is that your developmental stage of world view and goal of well-being?
@Ashvin Vaidyanathan ...by preventing mass murder and installing an international court of law? Btw, the latter against the current political will of the US.
@Ashvin Vaidyanathan Lmao.... Also by pumping a ton of money into their economies and giving US based companies massive subsidies for opening up businesses abroad? You really have no clue what you are talking about, do you?
I think its because people are sick of losing there friend's and families. People are sick of the constant loop of death that has no change. Soldiers are sick of fighting wars they get nothing out of. My great grand father had to face child soldiers in ww2. He never shot at them or ordered his men to shoot them. He said that any man who kill a child will die the same. Tho he lost many men to children manning machine guns and throwing grenades not one of his men killed any children. He died a sad unhappy man because of these experiences. Same for my father who faced child soldiers in Afghanistan. Hes sick of it. Im sick of it. We can only hope because we dont have control over anything.

@@ChryptoCrystal Oof, bro. Maybe in the USA it was like that. Here in Europe we lived those wars on our own turf. Everyone had grandparents who spoke about the horrors of war here.
The thing is Science and war are mutually beneficial to eachother. War leads to arms races which give huge boosts to scientific research, and better technologies benefit warfare. Look at WW1 for example. We went from Horses charging at Machineguns to Tanks and mobile infantry.
Yes, in theory, you can. However, most tech breakthroughs have come from war. Modern science is a result of the tests that the Nazi's did on Jews in WW2. The strength of the engines in cars and semis are a result of the improvements from needing tanks.
You realize science actually has a field day during war time? Innovation is down to necessity, and finding ways to win is a big necessity in wars. For example take Germany and Japan during WW2, they did horrific experiments on people, but a lot of that knowledge laid the foundation for so much modern knowledge and technology.

Its probably because the title asks if War is over, and this was made 7 years ago, so because Ukraine was recently invaded and turned the conflict into a near full on war, it would prove the question incorrect.
Democracy is still relatively new (not the concept, but it being widespread), and we already see cultural changes, mentality changes, and political changes that will challenge what democracy is. You can barely call the US a democracy anymore. Its ruled by the rich, and the middle class/lower class is kept complacent via cultural distractions, such as reality shows, and consumerism, which promotes low attention span, and narcissism, leads to the rejection of responsibility, and all of that combined leads to ignorance and carelessness. You can't have a functioning democracy, if the majority of the population is careless, scientifically illiterate, and ignorant about politics, because such a population is easily exploited by the ones holding power. You'll have a government that exploits its people, not one that represents their interests. People need to stop talking about getting sixpack abs, what celebrity X said on reality show Z, and instead start learning about psychology, argumentation, the importance of recognizing and accepting being wrong, and get at least basic college degrade in physics/chemistry/biology. We need to wake up everyday and want to improve ourselves mentality, and have the psychological tools to do so. Only then can we have a future of peace, true democracy, and mutual respect and compassion. But hey that's just my opinion. (Oh and ofc I don't mean that staying is shape is bad, but getting buff or otherwise fixating on our looks, shouldn't be our main concern, which it is for the vast majority, at least here in Denmark)
"We need to wake up everyday and want to improve ourselves mentality, and have the psychological tools to do so. Only then can we have a future of peace, true democracy, and mutual respect and compassion. But hey that's just my opinion." Well sir I agree with your opinion.
"We need to wake up everyday and want to improve (our)selves mentality" I totally agree. The attitude here in America is that "I'm what I am and I can't change that". It infuriates me because people are admitting they are not even willing to try and improve themselves. Almost all problems in this world would be solved if everyone woke up every morning trying to improve themselves or help other people.
I agree. Personally I believe the best way to ensure freedom and generally good things is to have a very well educated citizenry. Many people together can have tremendous power but they can't enact change if they are too ignorant to realize there is a problem or they are being mislead.
Seems like you forgot to mention the existence of weaponry on a nuclear scale gives all the more reason not to start a war with how much devastation it can induce, pretty sure that's actually a bigger reason than anything else on the list.
But at this point in history every country knows that even in a full scale war the other side isn't going to use nukes. Possessing nukes has just become a status symbol.
Kevin Luna The cold war suggests otherwise. Consider that the last big war between major powers was the first to have nukes and also ended in a nuclear attack, and the two strongest military rivals on the planet spent the next half decade trying to stay out of direct conflict, building better WMD's and trying to control their use. If a conventional war starts and doesn't go well, a theres always the risk a nuclear power could consider them an option. And even if they're only used tactically, the situation can only spiral from there. MAD doesn't apply as much if you're already being destroyed conventionally.
@Phantom Easy way to put it no. not realy As long as no Planet Destructing Mass bombing is done wich would be dumb and not Tactical in any way in the worst the World will loose alot of Humans since Strategic points are highly Populatet there for alot of Civilian losses but not any Reset back to Stone age but rather a very chaotic world

FireflyHS Yeah but the fact is, they don't. Nuclear weaponry is the main reason there is no major war anymore. It could have happened but it's becoming very unlikely now that a nation possessing nuclear warheads will go to a full war. It's very arguable that nuclear bombs saved more lives than it killed in the grand scheme of things.
Djorgal Nukes definitely have saved more lives than they have ended. Just imagine the amount of US and Japanese soldiers, and Japanese civilians (that would have been militarised) that would have died if the US attempted to attack Japan via assault. It also would have delayed the American aid in Europe which would result in the NAZI Germany war machine steam rolling through Russia.

Nukes.
WiseSloth ForBernieSanders yaay MAD (sarcasm)
WiseSloth ForBernieSanders So you're saying we should build more nukes? That might work, but there are better alternatives.

This video stands as proof that humanity isnt actually getting better, it is simply just harder and less usefull to start wars. Most people would still be capable of doing the same vile things that were done in the past.

I thought that wars mostly stopped due to the concept of MAD (mutually assured destruction). With many global superpowers possessing nuclear weapons, a war between them would practically be the end of the world.
I don’t think it’s people being nicer, but people not wanting the weather forecast to announce nuclear winter
Yeah. That's the biggest reason in my opinion.
thats what stoped us from using nuclear weapons..... wars were still fought, but the fact is that little y little humanity has become more prosperous than ever before, even if the gap between rich and normal riches has being made larger, the people cosidered poor now have more resources than the poor 30 or 40 year ago. the people getting by has expanded, people living well also, and extreme poverty was subsided for the first time in history..... thats...... before covid lockdown thats it
most of the countries dont have mass destruction weapons, why they are not in war?
I do think people are really getting nicer kkkkk
@@altbitt Because even the little countries have big friends that have nuclear weapons .

If it wasn't for war we might not have landed men on the moon.

War should be a boxing match between both presidents
if only.. shame wars are caused by things like economic problems, and political problems, like the french revolution, and communist take over.
here is a small scenario that can prove why somthing civil like a boxing match, or game of chess won't do it.
country A: *needs oil* *is envious of country B's oil*
country B: *suspects nothing*
country A: *begins illegally obtaining country B's oil*
country A & B *have constant political arguments, that eventually escalate to war.*
now both countries hate each other, and are not willing to be civil.

I am Vietnamese, just saw what happened in Afghanistan yesterday and it reminded of Saigon's 1975. Interestingly, this video appears in my recommendation. Most of the world now live their lives without experiencing a war, god bless you. War is nothing but hell, pray for the Afghani
hey, if you don't mind answering, what is Vietnamese opinion on Vietnam war and the US (who was the loser)? since US lost in Vietnam War and War in Afghanistan against Taliban, I'm kinda curious and I'm not sure I can believe western article
@@yantyagustina2735 I am glad you ask. First of all, the war had ended nearly 5 decades and we obliviously won with enormous sacrifice. My generation were born after that time so we are not really the witness of the war with the US. It is what have written in books that we learn. Frankly, nowadays young Vietnamese people don't have negative emotions toward the US. We rather concern about the big bully neighbor China instead.
Secondly, what make me sad about Vietnam war is it exactly the war of Vietnamese. We fought each other, killed each other in the name of superpowers nation like America or the Soviet, much like what is happening in Afghanistan now. It is cruel and meaningless and must be stopped.
I hope your pardon for my clumsy English. Have a nice day!
@@quangthanhtruong4505 yeah I know I saw how Afghans fell just like the fall of Saigon (I'm sure you saw people comparing photos between the two) and I realized the problem in Afghanistan lies wayback to Cold War and since US lost in Afghan in almost similar way to Vietnam,I kinda wonder what you guys felt back then and now. So there are no resentment to the US about what happen during the fall of Saigon? (because it damn looked like US abandoned you guys at that time, much like the Afghans now). And hey, thanks for answering,I'm from Indonesia and english isn't my native language, relax. Also please if you know some books that objectively reviewed what happened during Vietnam War from a neutral standpoint, please recommend it to me,I'm also happy to read such book from Vietnamese POV also, providing its in English
@@yantyagustina2735 Of course, at that time, many would've felt abandoned and betrayal. Some fleeted oversea, other got captured and be punished. Under the communist regime people were indoctrinated and oppressed just imagine like North Korea right now. But things have changed a lot since then. We now get more freedom, educations and access to information around the world. The leader are changing theirs political orientation, we now more open to the Westerner for economically and politically benefits. As the young generation we generally don't hate the US it's quite the opposite we admire their advancement and hope that both countries could move on from the past and work together.
For the books recommendation, i'll try my best. If i can find something worth your time i'll send it to you.
@@yantyagustina2735 We didnt lose in Afghanistan. The point of American occupation of Afghanistan was to keep terrorists from getting power while we were there, and that is exactly what happened. Saying we lost Vietnam is a really minimalistic way of looking at that, because at the end of the day, US casualties were at less then 10,000 where NVC were well over 100,000. We lost Vietnam politically, but dominated it militarily.

While the war between Ukraine and Russia is mentioned, it is retroactively accurate. At the time of video’s release, Russia invaded Crimea, then followed by the Donbas regions. 8 years later, Russia began invading the rest of Ukraine. Edit: 500 likes!

But hey that's just my opinion."
Well sir I agree with your opinion.
I concur.
"We need to wake up everyday and want to improve (our)selves mentality"
I totally agree.
Mostly true, but one doesn't need a degree in physics, chemistry, or biology to be educated.

Seems like you forgot to mention the existence of weaponry on a nuclear scale gives all the more reason not to start a war with how much devastation it can induce, pretty sure that's actually a bigger reason than anything else on the list.
pretty much every superpower is afraid to start a war because of nuclear warfare
But at this point in history every country knows that even in a full scale war the other side isn't going to use nukes. Possessing nukes has just become a status symbol.
Kevin Luna True buts its a rather effective status.
MAD doesn't apply as much if you're already being destroyed conventionally.
sm901ftw
No war will ever get so bad that the losing side will seriously consider using nukes, because they will have surrendered by that point.

Also, nukes.
That's probably why no very big wars have happened since 1945
Oh and when nations with them fight.. oh boy..
