So the idea that Askeladd's mother put into his head at a young age is that the King Aritorius would one day return to save the world from all the rotten people in it like the Danes, and that when the king finally appears Askeladd needs to serve the king and be as staff and his sword. The whole sentiment of waiting for King Artorius to return and cleanse the earth is quite similar to that of the Last Judgment and Raganrok, it's to show that even though people have totally different beliefs, they still share the same ideas. Askeladd said at one point that he doesn't care if it is The Last Judgment or Ragnarok, only that he wants it to come soon, since to him they are all just the same idea with a different name. Askeladd has waited for the king to appear his whole life, but he is done with waiting, he can't just wait and hope that the king will appear any longer, which is why Askeladd instead want's to turn Canute into the image of Artorius and then serve him. Canute showes potential in Askeladd's eyes as even though he is a terrible leader, he has ideals unlike any other Danes, he doesn't have a lust for war and blood, but is rather kind hearted and has lived his entire life by Christian ideals. Askeladd want's to mold him into a leader and make him into the King Artorius so that he can be able to serve him, this is why he decided to kill Ragnar since there is a chance this will make the prince grow up and start progressing towards a true leader.
Askeladd's ideology is probably why he offered Thors to take over as the leader of his mercenary band, because he saw kingly characteristics in him (e.g. combat ability, mercy towards enemies)
Without spoiling From what I understood from the flashbacks of askeledd's mother and the impact of that on him is that askeledd believes prince canute to be king artorius who his mother spoke of and that he will return and save the people of Wales ( his mother's homeland). As we saw earlier, Prince canute signed an agreement of peace with the people of Wales which was all possible because of askeledd. His mother had told him to serve king artorius and become the King's sword and shield whenever he returns after healing his wounds and askeledd believes canute to be exactly that. So askeledd is doing everything to protect the Prince and make sure he becomes the king of Denmark which is why thorgrim questioned askeledd saying that he has changed and why is he willing to go through pointless battles just to protect that coward Prince but as we know askeledd has stated it many times that he can tell what type of person someone is just by taking a look at their face. So askeledd sees something in canute that others don't ( if u know the history behind King canute in real life then it's pretty obvious) I can't explain fully since it will be spoilers, You will understand more clearly in future episodes
Dont think he "believes" canute is artorius lol... It is more like "Artorious is a myth but i will make it real for the sake of my mother so all of our suffering will not be for nothing"
@@azmalftw Nah i meant he doesnt even really believe Canute has something that makes him "like" Artorious... Only reason he is entrusting his expectations on him is because he has no other options... Canute is all he has and he is betting it all on him as a last gamble out of desperation...
Might sound crazy, but I think back when Thorfinn first met Askeladd he really could have taken out 50 men. Thors had no problem just going through the crew casually one-tapping everyone and Askeladd posed a serious risk to Thors, eplicitly forcing him to stop holding back, even wounding him.
Torgrim's soul left his body the moment Thorkel walked up to him, ready to fight. His whole identity & self disappeared into the darkness (that's fucked up).
Hi there Teddy! I just wanted to ask if you could react to this anime -> Magi : The labyrinth of magic. I bet you would like it a lot! There are 2 seasons and an OVA of 12 episodes. It's an comedy/adventure with some action and seinen, a must watch in my humble opinion. Have a nice day 😁
@@Ish895-t4g there 1 is just one spoiler and its only implied and on a side character (ragnars death) the rest is not surprising at all, I dont get why people stop her from enjoying a hype OP
@@TheOriginalDogLP Tbh people confusing foreshadowing with spoilers so much. I don't know why people have so little faith in studios these days. Telling others not to watch great openings because they don't trust the studio not to ruin the show that same studio is making. Can't trust the studio to decide what order to show things in. Have to pick and choose which content to watch in order. Always seemed stupid to me.
*It's funny that Thorfinn's drive to be the one to kill Askeladd ironically makes him one of the most loyal on his side other than Bjorn.*
I think what Askeladd meant is that he's too old and tired of waiting for the true king to return, he's going to raise his own king from Canute
i also think the same "someone had to do it, not a hero, not a god, but somebody"

11:36 Prince Canute wasn't his first choice, he was thinking of Thors way back then when he asked him to lead them.
Lol she’s said Canute was disassociating while mid air. The Canute hate is crazy
Next episode bout to be interesting...
Look at that Fat Cat sleeping peacefully amidst all this fighting and war
Oooh I was looking forward to this episode!! This one and the next one are two of my faves, can’t wait to see your reaction to the next :D
Always gets me that Askellad had his own version of Vinland growing up as well.
Hyped on the next episode 👀
The sleeping cat on the background tho, cute af.
She's always trying to take the spotlight 🤨

@@raulcampos1833 we do not know anything about a change... This is a discussion thread for episode 17
Akeladd is one of a kind, a man fueled by mommy issues in a series otherwise driven by daddy issues.
Ahahaha good way to put it 😂
ummm no, he has daddy issues as well
Your cat passed out in the background is so cute!
"the prince is disassociating again" lol you are ruthless, he is flying midaird during a crash, let him chill a second haha
I'm too cruel but at this point it's a meme that I pick on him extra hard 😂
Seems he's trying to make Canute into a kind of Artorius for him to follow and guide.

i agree. i think he wouldn't be able to beat them without killing them like thors tho
Check on the manga, the Thorkell pressure on Torgrim is very creepy. The anime nerve it so it more acceptable
Thorkell looks like a demon in that manga scene
@@Ryuzaki3737 For real bro, thats why i still read the manga even when the anime comes out.
The manga also generally looks much better
14:44 this cutscene right here is 100x more sinister in the manga which would make piss....shit and shut your brain all at the same time.
Next episode u already know 😏
Best episode
Next couple of episodes are top tier
Nice reaction.......🙌🙌
Thank you!
Torgrim's soul left his body the moment Thorkel walked up to him, ready to fight. His whole identity & self disappeared into the darkness (that's fucked up).
such a good episode
Me every single episode
the 18th episode is probably the most important
14:47 thorkell look scarier in the manga panel compared to this shot
Thorkell is tall majima and it’s the best thing ever
