I’m headed to orientation and now I know what to focus on on because I’ve asked for 4 weeks as a new nurse and I’ve been given 4 shifts with preceptors who don’t precept or use a checklist for evaluation. I pray I’m trained appropriately this time around with supplies and leaders that are available
This is wonderful content. I wished I had the ability to evaluate myself. I am aware of all the tasks I am to do on a daily basis, but what I would like to evaluate in myself is fine detail. Skills not used daily or things that others overlook, but I want to do daily as a basic to be sure of my completeness. I have 3 years of med/surg experience, but have been found lacking by my current employer. I have applied for their ACU, to pre-op same day surgeries, IR, Scope procedures, as well as process some from emergency to assist and facilitate them to OR. On the other end we Recover them and educate them through the discharge process, back to life. I would love this opportunity to learn a new part of our hospital. I am hoping for the best, but since I have not done so well in med/surge after over 2 years of experience, I am scared. I do not have any family/friends who I can speak to, you are my last hope. Write me back, you are very encouraging, and I really need that right now. Love your videos.
This is good info for me. I've oriented a few nurses but did have confidence in my own ability to evaluate and respond to concerns. Thanks for this video. I would love to hear your thoughts on being a preceptor for a senior student nurse intern. I'm taking my first student in January. I'm feeling out of touch with what my expectations should be of a student and how much I can let them do independently.
Well when I was a student, I remember observing a staff nurse (with whom I was assigned to..) poor performance in her time..looking back I would've confront her.. I have many similar experiences, there was this time when I took over a shift from this staff ( I'm still a student and new in her hospital) she gave a medicine that was not supposed to give, well I did what I had to, report it . Sometimes evaluation is not just for new nurses...
This video is so timely! I am almost at the end of orientation as a new grad nurse and these points you made put me in check! Thank you Nurse Nacole!
You are very welcome, thank you for your support.

I provided my email on another post, write me there. We can discuss the fine details.
Wow is good to know how they are going to evaluate me when I’m a new nurse!
Thank you for your support.
I just started as a new grad, and this gives me a lot of direction on how to make progress. They cut our orientation in half and I’m stressing out
I'm orienting at a new place myself and working many twists and staff limitations... I'm BEYOND stressed, haha.

I'll do a video for you.
