Helicopter Flight to Crescent Bar

- Join me and Penny the Tiny Dog for a flight from our cherry season base in Malaga, WA to an orchard at Crescent Bar in Quincy, WA. I'll fly you down the river and tell you a little about what we're flying over and past while also telling you a little about helicopter operations.
Before you ask, the blue rag over my iPad keeps the sun off it so it doesn't overheat. (I usually use a yellow rag, which works better because it's a lighter color.) If you ask in the comments, I'll tell you to read this description and then you'll feel silly. Just saying.
Answering more questions:
- This is REAL footage. It is NOT a video game. If you think it is, it's time to shut off your gaming platform and go outside. You might need sunglasses; it could be bright out during the day. Real life is cooler than video games if you work a little to make it that way.
- The helicopter is a Robinson R44 Raven II -- the same one that appears in the photo at the beginning of the video. You can learn more about them here: robinsonheli.com/r44-specific... I own this helicopter. It is the third one I've owned since 2000.
- In this video, I'm cruising at about 100 knots airspeed (which is normal for me) and am probably 500 to 700 feet over the river and other terrain (which is also normal for me on a cross-country flight).
- I have been flying for about 20 years. My nearly 4,000 hours of flight time is in R44, R22, Bell 206L (Long Ranger), and Bell 47 helicopters.
- The video was recorded with a pair of GoPro cameras, one of which is connected to the helicopter's intercom system. Both cameras record audio, but I dialed down the helicopter sound to about 25% of normal volume so it wouldn't be annoying. I wouldn't mind leaving it out altogether, but lots of folks seem to want it, so there it is.
- The intro music is by Bob Levitus, famed Macintosh book author. By this point, he may have written more books than me. I should ask him.
- Penny the Tiny Dog weighs 7 pounds and flies with me quite often. She is very well behaved in the helicopter, as you can see. She had her first flight when she was 5 months old: a 90-minute flight from Wenatchee, WA to Hillsboro, OR. • Helicopter Flight from...
My helicopter has ADS-B Out and is picked up by radar facilities. You can see my track for recent flights on Flightradar24:
www.flightradar24.com/data/ai...
This is a great site for tracking any almost any flight, including the airlines.
I'm trying to drop flying videos like this one every Sunday morning and usually drop "extras" with more info about owning and operating a helicopter midweek. Subscribe so you don't miss anything new! And tell your friends. The more subscribers I have, the more motivated I am to keep producing videos like this one.

Gives a new meaning to IFR - I Fly Rivers
Wow, that did NOT seem like 16 minutes. I was engrossed the entire time and was surprised when it was over. I always dreamed of being a pilot but health concerns have now forever preventing me ever passing the medical. Thank you for these vids.
Yep, when she landed i was wondering what the other 10 minutes would show and was totally surprised that already 15 minutes had passed. :)
I love your videos. That’s so cool you take your dog flying.
probably the best helicopter flying videos on YT :D thanks a lot!
Remarkably well behaved doggie there, and an extremely pleasant to watch flight. Really appreciate the video so please don't stop ☺️☺️
She's been flying since she was 5 months old. Her first flight was a 90 ride from Wenatchee to Hillsboro, OR. ua-cam.com/video/hnIbY2y69Ug/v-deo.html
Nothing like a cup of coffee and an awesome helicopter flight to start the day.
haha im new here and thats what im doing
Awesome flying! Thanks for showing us another day as a helo driver. Loved the A-10s!
Penny sure is one spoiled little girl, all those free "$100 walks" she gets to enjoy!
Fun flight, almost like being there. Penny is a great copilot.
Beautiful. You're getting very good at the camera placements and narration.
Your dog is so calm in that cockpit, great little copilot! Those A-10s buzzing you was pretty awesome too. Great video!
love your co-pilot. Excellent flight thank you
That was a nice ride, thank you from Niagara Falls.!
This is the American dream
such a good doggo... what a lovely flight :)
Very enjoyable flight! Thank you for the landing briefing, rotary wing operation is a whole different world!
Saw the a-10 reflection!! Way too cool. Love your content. I’m an air traffic controller at MIA TRACON. Love aviation content. Keep it up!
Love watching! Thank you! The Gorge, always wanted to see Dave Matthews Band there...what a beautiful part of the country!
New subscriber, Maria! Thank you for taking me on these rides, explaining the controls, the ins & outs of drying cherry trees. I absolutely love your videos. Keep them coming. Someday I would like to come up from my home in Oklahoma and ride.
Maria, that was a very nice, relaxing, enjoyable flight. I also chuckled at your video description :) Happy flying!
This one might have been my favorite. Had I seen this 40 years ago, I might have gone rotary wing. I understand how working an aircraft can get tiring and boring. I towed banners in Ocean City, MD two seasons. Eight somethings nine hours in the saddle can get rough. Happy landings.
I think this one is my current favorite, too. Thanks!
Ms. Mary, I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this video. Great commentary, super scenery, beautiful landing. Thanks. Oh yeah, cute pooch too.
My dreams of becoming a heli pilot... for now I’ll live through you! Thank you for your channel and content!🙏
Love the copilot ♥️♥️♥️
Daniel Miller • Aww so do i!
You definitely need a fury one when riding the copter!
I could watch these videos all day.
I only just realised the little dog chilling in the seat 😁 so cool.!
Out east in Ottawa Canada, watching your video while munching on a bag of Wenatchee cherries. Mmmm
She does a great job explaining much of the technicalities of aviation. Just like in any career field, they have their own language. I really enjoy her videos. CAVU.
Very aesthetically pleasing flight (especially the cloud reflections) plus relaxing, informative commentary. Thank you.
Thank you for letting us share a nice day and a smooth ride down the Columbia with you two.
For the first time I'm watching, and I will undoubtedly subscribe. A very beautiful place, and calm way you talk, and the information you pass on who is watching. GOD BLESS YOU. from England
Great camera angles. High resolution. Very informative and no BS. Please keep in the helicopter sound. I think 25% is perfect. Enough to know it is there but not loud enough to distract from your talking. It's like being on a helicopter tour. Love your videos.
The sound is pretty constant through most of the video, but it’s nice to hear the blade slap when I decelerate and start making my turns for landing.
In the first half circle at approach, the dog knows thats coming to a landing and it's so excited. :)) Thank you for this nice flight.
That was a blast just to watch! Thanks for bringing us along with you. WA looks a lot like NM except you have water, that's just so cool. And your co pilot is a champ! :)
Watching your dog there as he was watching your approach. It looked like he recognize that yard and was getting excited about running around there. Oh boy oh boy oh boy. It doesn’t look like the height bothers him at all. Nice flight, looking forward to seeing more.
She really likes running around orchards.
Wow... gorgeous day to fly! Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful flight!! The scenery is awesome! Thank you 👏♥️
Thanks for the videos. I'm almost 70 yrs. old and have been fascinated by helicopters since the TV show whirlybirds was on in the 60's. During my Vietnam tour I was in the 101st Abn. Div. and flew on a semi regular basis on all types of birds. Was also in an Army Nat. Guard helicopter maintenance unit in MI. for a while. I miss the actual flying in them so your videos really help to satisfy that. I think alot of your subscribers would like to know how you became involved in rotary aviation
I remember that TV show!
Thanks again for the fine videos!
Amazing videos , thank you for letting us fly with you. 👍👍👍👌👌👌
Amazing flight ! Thanks for sharing. You re living a dream
And here I was thinking you were going to drink a pint at crescent bar.... 🍻
love watching you fly, thanks
LOVE the cockpit camera looking back at you! Gives us a lot more perspective during the flight. LOVE these scenic flights! You are doing what I always aspired to - lucky lady!
Great flight Maria, thanks for sharing!..
Awesome! Thanks. Really enjoyed it. ❤️
thanks for the ridr alone. Beautiful!
Thank you. Fun to watch you fly by an orchard my grandfather manages and fly to an orchard I have visited. Keep up the great videos.
Thank you for posting me and my wife are shopping in the area to buy and this type of view and history of the area was super helpful.
I love how your little dog is relaxing at the co-pilot seat.. He really seems to enjoy it.
Like i enjoy watching your videos!
Much love from germany!
Relaxing watching you cruise around the skies. Thanks for sharing :)
Great video! And great camera angle, you can see so much! Love the dog too, I didn't even see her at first! She looks so chilled haha.
I ALWAYS love your flight videos!!! Please keep them going, would love to have a lady like you for myself that loves helicopters and flying as much as I do! Best of both worlds :D
Most informative. Thank you. I really enjoyed travelling with you. :)
Thanks as that was a very enjoyable scenic flight. Helicopters are so cool.
Thanks for another delightful video and the soothing, informative narration. You’re a terrific pilot and tour guide. Loved seeing your cute pal at your side. I’m fixed-wing but would still love to fly choppers! Maybe one day ... 😃👍🚁
Very beautifull trip, thanks for showing.
Love this! I grew up in the Chelan/Wenatchee area and used to dream about what it would look like from a helicopter.
Looks as beautiful as I imagined.
Amazing little vibration and great audio. Very nice. Thanks for the ride, Maria. :)
Excellent enjoyed the dog flying with you 😀 x
Beautiful. I could see the A-10s in the reflection, that must have been a bit unnerving! Love the tour and history lesson you provided on the flight. Great video!
I am Australian but used to live in Washington state for about four years, so enjoy seeing these videos as it reminds me of the area.
Thanks for the ride and the informative tour! Just like sitting in the left seat.
Very cool. I stayed in the red apple motel in Tonasket over night, last summer. Did some laundry the next morning, talked to a retired man, and an officer was interested in my bike. Him and his wife recently moved there and bought two bikes that were similar. From last years trip I realized how far I can travel in 4 days, so your videos are giving me all sorts of ideas for future adventures. 😉
Very cool to see the general area my grandfather was from. Nice narration!
Thanks for the video. Entertaining as usual. My experience in helicopters comes as a Huey crew chief/door gunner back in the '70's. Keep the videos coming. Enjoy them.
Jerry Carroll Jerry- Tks for your service!
Very CooL Mam. Nice and Smooth. Like how your Dog can sense a Landing coming up well before you land.
Love it. What a view from a helicopter. For a fixed wing pilots this view is a luxury. And your dog, so calm and relaxed.
i love all your flying please never stop making them also penny is a cute doggie
Thank You for this very nice flight😀
That was a really nice flight, thank you from England.
That was really fun to watch, keep up the great videos!
I loved flying in a helicopter! Versatile piece of equipment lot of fun. 💙
I could watch u fly all days. 😁 The area you live in is gorgeous. I'm a student pilot working on getting my private license in fixed-wing but helicopters just looks so much fun. One day I wish to own a little piece one land with a helipad. Keep it up, love it
COOL! Great Tour and piloting.
Nice Flight. Thanks for sharing
Enjoyed enormously, Thanks
Awesome heli ride tour. The landscape is beautiful.. i love your video.
Up at 3 AM and found your video. Thank you for the nice tour, it was relaxing. I was an Army crew chief on Black Hawks in the 80's, sure miss flying. I envy you having your rotary license. I had the good fortune to get an hour of stick time in an MD500, one of my favorite helos. Be safe, stay within the envelope, always follow procedures.
fantastic video love your little Dogie

>^. .^< I'm approaching 70, have not spun a set of blades in 5-10 years actually. So thanks for the ride......
Great view of the river and its surroundings. Interesting to say the least. Thanks for sharing.
Love your flying and beautiful views of Eastern WA! I’ve only been in your area once (on a motorcycle trip) and it was beautiful

Amazing video. Loved the flight.
Hi, I'm Bengt S from Norway and I enjoy your flights in your home area. I follow the map on Google Earth so I learn the area. I coundn't find Crescent Bar on the map so I had to follow your flight along Colombia River. Now I have pinned the place (hehe) so its easy to get back to you.
I love your videos. Your dog seem to be a good quiet "co-pilot". Take care
I was just watching another of your cherry drying flights, and was wondering when you were going to post another video, when this one popped up. Nice!
It seems I am at the control and flying over the pretty river there. Nice video and good explanation.
