you have done so well at developing a video style, they're so satisfying and calming to watch yet super informative always keeps me coming back for more
TBH it is somewhat basic, but still valid bringing attention to this to make a conscious stylistic choice to shoot shadow side. Appreciate you sharing this knowledge! Cheers from Germany
I love North Border's videos and the creativity makes me want to do what he does. I don't currently do photoshoots, I don't even own a camera. I'm not sure if it's practical for me. But 'going out on photoshoots' what is the purpose of it? Are you getting paid? And if so, HOW? I don't see the point doing something if I won't get paid Or at least be contributing to a purpose.
I personally don't do photography because I'm getting paid for it, but it's the experience that matters for me. The feeling of going out to a beautiful landscape and taking pictures is the mental break I needed.
It’s a creative hobby just like drawing, sculpting, or painting. That said, even if you want to get paid, going out and doing spec work, showing people what you can do, or how you see the world, is the way to pitch your work to other people. You have to do the work you want, in order to get people to pay for it.
Already knew this but nice to hear it from you. Anyways i like shooting against the lightsource more, especially when it comes to sunset photos. Shooting with the sun looks less contrasty and flatter than shooting against the sun.
"...you can listen to some curly haired #$%^ on the Internet...." LOL!! You're spot on with your comment. You gotta get out and shoot. I think there's another piece that can help, take notes about what you did. I don't this and end up repeating mistakes. I know I should, but.... Have a rockin' weekend!!
Mike isn’t just giving good advice and teaching. He’s straight up sharing industry secrets. 😉

black and white photography realy help to look for interesting light
Yes, while color is probably 60-40 on light vs shadow side, BW is like 90-10
Most entertaining UA-cam photographer ever 😂 thank you for the laugh and the helpful advice Mr. North Borders 😁btw your presets are fire
I’d also definitely recommend Roman Fox’s video on Understanding Light (Street Photography) in addition to this video.
Mike, you just made me look at my camera again after a long time. Thank you for the inspiration
Mike I really like this video because you're absolutely right. Sometimes I use your pictures to practice with.
Inspiring video man! And Billy is hands off my favourite photographer, the world he sees is so unique.

Can you maybe do a giveaway on a camera and some lenses
“Don’t take another photo until you watch this”
The point of the video:
go out and take photos, because you can’t learn from just watching videos 😂
Soo... if I want to photo a car I just reach out to someone who drives it
borth norders
You missed the best opportunity to call it "Light Side" and "Dark Side" #IHaveSpoken
This is really good advice, man - as always 🙂 Dope shots too - especially at the service station 🫡
