I scoured the internet then watched 3 UA-cam videos searching for the simplest and cheapest way to cut wool for hooking… literally EVERYONES advice was “u are doomed to, uh… we mean u **get to** buy this cutting machine!! lolzie so fun!!! 😀 P.s. if u use scissors u can’t sit with us! 🥰🥰✌🏻😘” ALL THAT before finding your video. 😂😅 So waita go, I hath subscribed, and also I love another video of yours, in it you did a punch & hook combo rug with the crazy flower design. Great info on your channel, your energy is beautiful & I’m very excited to watch & learn!!
Thank you for this video finally found. I’m on central west coast. No resource out here. Quilt shop unable to help with questions. Same with Joann’s and Michael’s. They don’t punch or hook out here. It’s been challenging. No I can’t spend the dollars Thank you.

This was so helpful. I live in the UK and the hooks are not so common and expensive to boot. Glad to know I can use other tools to cut wool. Although I was really interested in your video about using yarn. I have those in spades. I even have wool I started knitting a cardi, when my Mum was still alive, she's been gone now almost 20years! 🤣🤣🤣. For one as lazy as I, this information was fabulous news. I'm so glad you're there, Louise! I love textiles too. I grew up sewing and worked as a costume maker in the theater when I was younger, but gravitated more toward hooking and handcrafts that don't involve constantly having a sewing machine out. I'm glad you're there and I hope the videos continue to entertain. My group has a big Facebook page too and I run things like monthly rug hooking bingo games (there's one tonight) that just added to the fun and inspiration. xx
Does washing/drying wool fabric make it stronger? I cut #3 worms and they tear easily. Is that to be expected? Thank you for your very helpful videos!!!
It definitely can. Wasing wool hot felts it, what hookers call fulling it. Some wools are just loosely woven and they never improve with fulling. People sometimes still work with difficult fabrics bc they love the colors. I think in your case wading will help before you cut
I just love your videos. Your room looks cozy and would love to see "all" of your hookings. Did you paint on the canvas in the window? If so,,,,super talented lady.
No, that's something I picked up in a shop. I have so so many paintings and rugs to put it. I'll do a little tour of all the bits and pieces as soon as I finish putting the room together. It's fun to see other people's spaces!
Ok good... So you know his to tackle it now! However you cut, you know no one will be able to tell whether you cut with s pair of scissors or used $2K cutter. Let me know how it goes!
Thank you for this information. I ‘accidentally’ found your video as I was searching for info on cutters. As a ‘newer’ rug hooker, I cut my strips using a rotary cutter (I’m also a quilter) without really knowing it was ‘ok’. I do have some issues with shredding and it was suggested to me from a long time hooker, that it may have been because of using the rotary cutter. Any thoughts or suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated!!
So if there's a lot of shredding it probably means that you have a hook that's a little bit too small for the width of the strips that you're trying to pull through. Having said that sometimes we want to use materials that are really loose weaves and don't hook very well. Sometimes you find a wool or something from a garment something recycled that you want to use and it just really isn't going to hook well it's a loose open weave and wants to shredd. With those things you can put them through the wash and dry them and hope that when they come out they're a little bit more full and felt it and they hook a little bit better. Sometimes they just never do and you still want to use them because they're beautiful or they're special or you just love the color . In that case it can shred as you go along because you're using a material that doesn't hook well but you still want to use it. It sounds like your hook may be too small. But it's not you. It's the wrong hook or it's difficult material. If it's the hook you can get a bigger hook. If it's the material you have to decide if it's worth it. You can hook difficult material and trim the shreddy bits. Depends on how much you can take and how it looks. Xx

Someone long ago made a plastic grid that you could run your rotary cutter through to make strips. I have one at home, I’ll have to show you
I like to be as authentic as possible, so I cut my strips without a cutter. I just use sçissors
