    A great talk, learnt a lot of high level information on re-potting and realised I have been doing some of it totally wrong especially the next pot regime (vision), but the greatest limitation to us mortals is the price of decent pots for the next stage of that Bonsai to achieve that vision.

      This is why rock planting is so advantageous to us mortals with a 9 to 5. The beauty of a good rock is it could be under your porch or in your yard.

    I have killed more tree’s from failed repotting or lack thereof for fear of disturbing it.

    i hate "never bare root"^^ without bare rooting you will never have a 100% good tree. in my opinion, these "great master high end 50-100 year old" specimen lack of a perfect nebari in 99%. the top is always HOLY SHIT HOW GREAT. but when i look at the roots its like.. oh ok they never bare rooted it :( they let nature do it's thing with the roots and style the top xD

      sorry, i'm having a language problem here, i can't understand the mean of the expressionn "bare root", can you explaint it to me? does it means something like to clean the roots?

    • @pedantic_bonsai
      @pedantic_bonsai 4 роки тому

      yes, bare rooting is to remove 100% of the soil/substrate surrounding your roots to see every single root. this way you have 100% control about growth directions and which roots you want or not. but.. you can bare root 50% at a repotting session and next time you make the other 50% naked.. maybe thats a way you can bare root without bare rooting xD

      @@pedantic_bonsai A lot probably has to do with the stage of development a tree is in. A young tree in development most likely needs to be bare rooted to get the nebari set up etc but as the tree matures it is safer to do partial soil replacements like Ryan said. Also not all trees can actually tolerate being bare rooted.
