- Russian forces have targeted Ukrainian airbases slated to accommodate Western-supplied fighter jets, including US-designed F-16s, according to a statement from Moscow's Defense Ministry. On Thursday morning, the Russian military launched a coordinated strike using long-range sea-based weapons, Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles. The ministry claimed the attack successfully hit the "airfield infrastructure of Ukraine, planned to accommodate aircraft from Western countries."

Why such a long preamble?
Ukraine lacks maintenance crews for the jets! The F-16's aren't going to be around long enough to need maintenance.
Their ground crews are also in training. The f-16 will likely outlast the Russian jets by a good margin
The US is talking about allowing contractors to go to Ukraine. These will probably include maintenance crews.
@@icedriver2207 more likely it would enable them to have the same support as we do on bases. Contractors from the engine and airframe manufacturers along with avionics suppliers. All have representatives where the aircraft are being maintained.
