Wow! As a Seikoholic I truly enjoyed watching this! Great job!
Just bought the SPB143! 😁😁😁
What’s the QC like? I’ve heard misaligned indices, date and can run fast? Would really like one but price is too much if there are that many issues
@@jackj2851 usually the problem is the bezel which is in between 2 clicks. So it could be misaligned by a hair.Other than that nothing much. Mine is perfect tho.
The one that stoping me from buying the SPB143 is it’s movement. But nice design and perfectly build proportion.
Great interview! My Journey to the brand is via Swiss watches to GS, then to Seiko. As a marine biologist I've been lucky enough to work with many Seiko dive watches and have over 10, including Marinemasters, Tunas and SLAs - I no longer wear my Sea-Dweller! The new EB steel is brilliant! My only gripe with Seiko is the Prospex logo. The Prospex range spans £350-6000! The logo cheapens the more expensive LX and SLAs with crude, games console/90s extreme sport branding. No need for it! 'Seiko' is all we need.
Tell him to improve Seiko QC and better regulation of the 6R movements. I have had 4 SPB149 which were out of spec. You need to increase quality if you want to charge people more money
Bezel alignment
6R35 in particular. I have a limited edition Sumo black and it runs fast, barely within spec and has done from out of the box. Other than that, nice watch for the money, fantastic lumibrite as ever!
Their movements are not that great, or, they can‘t compete with any Swiss movement you would name. I think Miyotas too are way better.
@RandomUser221 I dont have time to make videos to prove a point to you. Having bought $7000 worth of seikos in the last 6 months (most of them from the Prospex line with the 6R35 movements), I have had nothing but issues with them. I rarely get one with all indices aligned, 6R35 movements under spec. And yes I have a timegrapher and demagnetizers to check if the watch is magnetized or not.
I love seiko but if they are to increase prices which they have every right to, they need to better their QC.
Since I buy and resell watches a lot, most of the new offerings are not selling well on the secondary market even at significantly reduced prices.
I got the SPB149's for 1100$ in august. Now my AD is offering them at $900 because nobody is buying them.
Dibyojyoti Mukherjee what do you think about heritage and possible increase in value as they will grow old? I bought one and i am hoping for that, do you think that’s possible or will all these problems make them decrease in value and be avoided by users?
I bought a Marine Master 300m SLA023 today. A stunning watch. The bezel and hands are perfectly aligned and I cannot find any imperfections. Perfect! Thank you Seiko.
Good?
Seiko is still King despite the various QC issues and rising prices ....
LOL, how is Seiko King if it has QC issues? They do good job on fit and finishing, but when it comes to time keeping, especially the automatic watches, they suck.
@@rayyseason I think my spb143 does a decent job keeping time: after little over one week it's now +10secs, while during that time it has been occasionally sitting on a table. If it's constantly on my wrist, it has been about +4secs in 4 days.
I own lots of Seiko pieces, and yeah I can say that certain movements on some models can lose or gain a few or many seconds, also some suffer from isochronism as well. My Seiko dealer allows me to return any Seiko that not accurate so I don't worry much. All my 2020 limited edition SLA037, 039, 043 are extremely accurate 2-5 seconds gain a day on or off the wrist, my GS SLGH003 9AS5 2020 gains 3 seconds over a day etc.
Love my wonderful Seikos. Incredible history. I’ll never stop collecting the vintage and modern pieces.
Fantastic interview! Thanks for sharing this!
Good job Derek. This is those kinds of videos that I’ll re-watch over and over again.
As an interviewer, not only you need to get the facts right, you also need to know when to talk and when to let the Interviewee talk.
You done a great job. Cheers.
Watching it with my SLA043 on the wrist. Just LOVE the 62Mas design.
That’s an excellent piece! Love the 62MAS design and Seiko’s Zaratsu polishing is amazing
Great interview. Got so much pleasure. I become a seiko fan here in Russia and going to buy sbdc14x watch as a everyday-watch for a long time.
Great interview! I've been enjoying my spb149 so much! I believe the Willard may be next.
Watching this while wearing my SPB143 ❤️
Just read your comment bro... Hope you enjoyed this video! More power to your channel. Great videos by the way! 👍😊
you lucky bastard lol
@@jeeperscreepers7 😂
same :)
Same!
Thank you so much for this! Seiko is one of the few brands in the world which truly listens to and respects its fanbase! LONG LIVE SEIKO YOU ARE IN OUR HEARTS AND MINDS ALWAYS!
What a load of toss.
Ugh… alignment???
@@jamespidgeon5428 ha ha they can't lol. I've accepted it and so should you
I like Seiko very much, I have MM300 and Save the Ocean King Turtle Manta Ray Special Edition. They are so beautiful, I am a very happy owner of those two Seiko Watches, thank you so much, a wonderful interview.
Outstanding interview man!!! congrats! However I wish you had discussed all the QC issues that so many complain about and why can't Seiko seem to address these issues. Thanks keep up the amazing videos.
This was a great interview!
Very nice Video and very interesting. Thanks for sharing. Daniel, Munich
Was für ein fantastisches Interview 👏👍😍 absolut sympathisch
The interviewer was clearly well prepped, but simply being prepared and knowledgeable aren’t the only things that make for a good interview.
Great interview!!!
Great! Love the channel
I wonder if the CEO's SPB143 bezel is aligned
I have very similar vintage Seiko quartz but the JDM model, King Quartz. Amazing watches.
I have the SPB149 and it's an awesome watch.
ありがとうございました!
This seiko line is absolutely exceptional
I collect vintage seiko. There are so many nice ones. I have a King Quartz similar to yours, ref 9222 8000, in pristine condition. It's a twin quartz. The case design looks like yours. The bracelet looks the same. Mine has a washi dial. The details on the case and bracelet is awesome. I wonder if they are handmade?
What about the chronographs? You should have asked him if there are any plans on reissues.
The SPB143 is so so nice, pictures don't really do justice to how quality it is in person
You are correct sir. Everyone was touting the good looks of this watch until I finally got my hands on a spb297. These watches in design and proportions is like perfect to the eyes! I just can't stop looking at it
More seiko and grand seiko reviews please
I love the new releases, especially the SPB143. Great size!
The spb143 is forever goated. Even the new spb453 with the black dial can’t replace it in my eyes. I also have the sje093 which is my weekend watch but it doesn’t replace the 143.
Seiko, FIX YOUR BEZEL ALIGNMENT QC PROBLEMS and make adjustable clasps. For $1,000+, that should be common.
No doubt that Seiko has some serious heritage under their belt and their design language is just beautiful. Please please please starting regulating your higher end watches, it's a shame that these watches don't get the same accuracy tolerance as GS, even though the prices are getting close to GS.
Awesome
Great interview. One thing that bothers me is to ask if it might be possible to have more quality control on the watches. I have some Seikos especially with caliber 6R35 and similar which behave differently in chronometry. You normally have to decide to take these watches for a tune-up by watchmakers who then obviously make you pay for the setup. In my opinion they should leave the factory already well adjusted, you are not always lucky to have a watch that runs regularly. I await your response on this matter. Thanks and greetings from Italy.
The SPB143 and the SPB051 are very hard to beat.
spb149j1
Dear Seiko: when you release limited edition watches, you should regulate the movements and provide accuracy reports!
Seiko should put the marinemaster name back on the sbdx line
Btw the case of the first seiko diver was copied if not bought from switzerland: it was a standard case used at that time by a lot of swiss brands
chapter ring and bezel alignment
If this is an interview question should be asked why prices are so high and QC so poor????????
I own “sumo” 2nd gen and two sbdc 053/063 so I know what I am talking about, and bought a timegrapher and learn how to regulate it myself! But most likely will buy again, because I know what I am dealing with))
Is every Seiko watch made in Japan?
內容豐富! 讚!
great interview! elevator music got me though lol
Thanks for checking it out! Will definitely make a note about the background music for future videos
Is a Rolex sub really 10x better than an spb 143? It's about 10x more expensive.
The Rolex is x2 better.
nice channel
i like it
I wonder if anyone told him about the misalignment issues.
Why does Seiko still have pinholes in the sides of their watch cases?
If you’re referring to the holes in the lugs, they’re designed to make strap changes easier by poking a strap change tool through the drilled lugs and popping the spring bar loose.
It’s a nice feature for people who regularly switch between straps and bracelets.
I love the pinholes on the sides, great design feature.
i wish they make at least one or two new models with not only date but also a day indicator 🥺
I miss Flushing Queens :)
That dudes got some great taste
I want to get Seiko SPB 143J1 in New York, Can you please tell me the address of the shop i can buy, i am here only for short time ?
Thanks
You can buy it directly in my shop
Carat & Co 39-09 Main St, Flushing NY 11354. Shoot an email over to sales@caratco.com
Seiko needs to address their quality control issues. Also someone needs to tell them to stop using Hardlex instead of Sapphire on their mid tier and up watches.
All my Seikos had some Problems or din't run very precise. I hope some day the QC will be on par with the higher prices. Then i will consider buying a Seiko again.
Great interview interesting
SEIKO i wish the spb would have a ceramic bezel. This would make it the perfect watch.
Very good interview. As I’m a Seiko fan. But….. is there something wrong with his head ?
Id really like to pick up these new releases however I am really bothered by the alignment. Ive had 10 in a year and all of them has some problems cosmetically.
Agree, I love Seiko but their divers not all suffer from tolerance issues and the 6R35 gains to much and suffers from Isochronism. I had about 5 with the 6R35 that alignment issues as well. All my GS are works of art but you gotta pay big.
@@josevasquez1781 high five brother! I might pick up the ocean traveller tho despite the high price tag. A traveler gmt at that price is just unbeatable. But will have to see the how tolerable the qc is.
Seiko must do more. Their reputation is at risk. Alignment problems and disappointing movements are to be mentioned first of all.
the seiko fans love seiko's history and the value proposition the brand once offered. going up market and ruining dials with the line the watch is from while still not addressing qc problems has turned myself and many others off of the brand. seiko used to be #1 favorite brand and i would always recommend seiko to friends, family and fellow enthusiasts. NOT ANYMORE. Seiko is no longer even in my top 3. offer smaller pieces - notably divers, quit ruining the damn dials with extra text and fix the qc issues.
you need to ask him about plans to shore up misalignments.. what an opportunity you have and all softball questions
Of course, all questions were screened and carefully picked. 🤩
With the prevalence of widespread QC issues for Seiko watches, you'd think an interviewer would have the gumption to inquire about this. Especially now that Seiko is dramatically increasing their prices across the board.
This is just a public service announcement disguised as a interview. The AD won’t bring up these QC issue in front of camera. Behind the camera perhaps.
I love Seiko but QC needs improvement.
When a 39/40mm diver with 44/46mm lug-to-lug?
SLA017/37/43... but you have to pay thousands more for those. The SPB diver are for poor man, like you and me (:
@@gmshadowtraders the sla017 is very thick. No thanks
@@Ferien7 This is correct. Nearly 15mm lol. I had one and it nearly broke my wrist. The new SPB divers are actually thinner at 13.9mm. I have that one now.
SPB143 is 40.5mm and 47.5mm lug to lug. About as close as it gets for the $1K range
Seiko is left behind. I recently bought my second Powermatic 80. Both watches run at +1s/d out of the box. Even my old NY0040 runs at +3s/d. And of course no quality issues. At least lower your prices Seiko.
you re true
Seiko, please make SPB143 into 38mm.. sell like hot cakes..
I went to the seiko boutiqueto to check the spb145... Its not a 1000$ watch by any means maximum its worth 450$ to 600$ ....i dont understand all the hype
QC needs improvement
Tell him that prices are too high especially considering that expensive models are casing crappy 6r movements. At least they should regulate them
I stopped buying because of QC
I saw new models and quality very bad. I agree with Dibyojyoti Mukherjee
. Between the bracelet and case all SPB has a huge gap, and lots of other quality issues.
Around this price Longines give better quality. Seiko prices are rising, but the quality doesn't follow. I wanted to buy one Seiko SPB, but for this money it is unacceptable.
My english is very bad, sorry.
Its not very bad my friend. I have the SPB149 limeted edi. I checked it on bezel align, specs etc. My watch has no problems. Its worth every penny.
Actually, your English is quite good, just need to study up on the use of adverbs and you're English would be excellent.
@@batu7493 the movement is not adequate for the price.
Shame about the background music...
Sort out the QA issues with the alignment of bezel, chapter ring and dial, also put some R&D into the bracelets. Maybe then I’ll come back to the brand!
Seiko bracelets are miles better than anything under $5000.
so sick of their "limited edition" watches looking good while the X on the prospex line ruins every watch
some K models have fault.
Is this photoshop or why does he have such a huge head?
Wow….he has a big head, almost look like it’s photoshopped
Just got my hands on SPB213 140th anniversary Prospex. This will likely be the last Seiko I'll ever buy until they up their QC. USD$1,200 watch with a loose date wheel (date number moves up and down slightly when watch is tapped/shaken) is absolutely unacceptable. I'm even afraid of sending it out to their Seiko USA service center, which has a horrible customer service reputation and sending back watches in worse condition than it was. I cannot believe this is a Japanese company as I don't see pride in their craftsmanship nor in their customer relations.
I’m considering a SPB147 ….. but I’m still undecided because of hearing so many QC issues.
@@Davyjones5454 my dealer was nice enough to let me exchange the 213 for a 143. I scrutinized b4 leaving the store. After wearing a few days I noticed the hour & minutes hands are misaligned by 15 mins. They also put wrong color lume on the bezel. However, I still do enjoy it as it's perfectly proportioned watch (to me). I do think I would be loving it if it wasn't for the issues. Good luck with your purchase!
Turn down or turn off the background music completely. Very distracting. I stopped watching after a couple mins.
Will make a note of that for the next video, sorry about that!
As an interviewer, talked too much. nothing concrete or new in the discussion. Who wants to hear what you can read from any decent blog review content!
