It definitely reaches pure gross at a certain point. Also keep in mind that at a further point, the flavors are also likely to start breaking down after long enough.
Just a quick tips : Make more than 1 bottle, maybe a gallon (not in one gallon, but different bottle), so in case you failed, there's another one, and if success, congrate you have a gallon of vanilla extract
My grandmother kept bottles of this stuff. She always had a bottle opened and more bottles sitting waiting to be used. It makes some of the best vanilla extract. The longer it sits the better and more potent it is. If I was more of a baker I would keep it on hand too.

Update. I actually had almost 3 full bottles of liquor. It was all for baking. I have some brandy, Jamaican rum, and white rum. And also purchased a 750ml of smironoff blue. Been watching lots of videos and i bake a descent amount. Im going determine which one i like the best. Each bottle has about 30 vanilla beans. 😅 Gonna be a 2 year brew. Well 18 months at least. So pumped

I've done this but our family uses bourbon. Bourbon already has vanilla notes from the way it's aged. I think it makes a stronger richer vanilla extract.

You don’t put it in the fridge, you put in a cabinet and keep it out of the light. Also you shake it every day or so.

My family used to do this, we used bourbon, and would wait about 2-3 months. It was better than artificial vanilla.
You can do it faster with the same couple months old tincher. Just allow some of the excess water to evaporate off. A couple more beans (1-2)
