It'll always surprises me that Guys like him, who had to run through a brick wall to path the way for others to come, don't get any recognition like the HOF... c'mon NFL, show some Respect and put him in!🏈❤️
@@ajburrrthere's a good 8 or 9 ex Denver players with better careers/stats than people of the same eras in the hall. Old afl teams just get shafted that way until the 90s pretty much. The grudge lives on.
Honestly, because the HoF selection committee is full of idiots. It’s a bunch of beat writers who are trying to suck up to certain players and appease certain owners. There’s no consistency to them.
When it comes to telling incredible stories in sports, NFL Films really is the gold standard. The way they blend old footage with current interviews, they tell a stories of players & coaches, who you’ve never heard of, but afterwards never forget.
It's crazy i have never heard of this man after looking over his resume i don't understand why he isn't in the hall of fame he should've been in decades ago i hope they let him in before he passes because at his age he doesn't have a lot of time left
I’m 72 years old and had the best day of my life this year at the stadium got to meet my all-time favorite bronco Lionel Taylar. The man gave me a hug gave me a special jersey I had of his and signed in this man was a true Denver Broncos. He played his heart out for all bronco heart out on every play he played for the Denver Broncos fans, a true professional, a true man love this guy. I wish you all had the chance to watch him play for those of you that did you know what I’m talking about God bless you
Karl Mecklenburg, Tom Nalen, Dennis Smith, Tom Jackson, Rod Smith, Tombstone Jackson. Add Lionel Taylor to the list of forgotten Broncos players who never got the Hall of Fame consideration they deserved. At least Randy Gradishar finally got in this year to remind people that Denver did in fact go to a Super Bowl in the 70s.
john madden isnt in the hall of fame because he was the coach of the raiders. he is in because of his overall contributions to the game. the same goes for steve sabol. lionel taylor shouldnt go in because of his player career. he should go in for the totality of his football career.
Madden got in as a coach in 2006. He was the fastest coach to 100 wins when he retired. Best winning percentage in NFL history (10 years minimum). Never had a losing season.
The thing that impressed me most was how humble he is. I remember reading his stats as a teenage in the 70s. I didn't know that any one had caught 100 passes in a season
LT is still a legend in Denver as a player. And his post playing career is equally legendary. He was THE receiver coach in the 70’s and 80’s. It’s a complete crime that he hasn’t been inducted to the HOF.
Here's a little more digging deep on his stats: his 1st 2 seasons were insane, 92 and 100 receptions. Even if we remove those 1st 2, over the remainder of his 1st 6 seasons he averaged 79 receptions per season. Only 1 other AFL player, Charley Hannigan with the Oilers, ever caught that many in any one season, though he did it twice: 82 in 61 and 101 in 64. But the difference was really in Taylor's yardage averages. All the top AFL receivers were averaging 18, 20, even 23 yards per catch. Taylor, at best, had 14 yards per catch in one season, and his average in the AFL was 12.7. Still, they gotta put the man in Canton.
No longer just a secret in Denver. Lionel Taylor. One of many former Denver Broncos who should be acknowledged as National Football League Hall of Famers. Do the right thing Hall of Fame. DO YOUR JOB!!!! There will be more to come.
Football is still real. It's still an incredibly fast, hard-hitting and physically demanding sport. Just because the league is cracking down on the cheap hits and the vicious tackling and blocking techniques that can cause lifelong debilitating injuries doesn't make that any less true. The game is plenty violent without that extra stuff.
Why isn't this guy in the HOF, his playing career and receiving records are easily enough, add in his coaching accolades and he should be a slam dunk. It's important for the NFL to recognize men like Lionel, he should be a priority.
just remember, the NFL sucks at voting in senior players and contributors - Art Powell couldnt even make the Hall as a senior candidate But Taylor deserves to be in the HOF
I always thought this was sports journalism these stories when I was a kid made me love the game. What happened I don’t read or watch sports outside of highlights and the box score
Well deserved and the Hall down the road ! Put more pure AFL players in . They beat us in the last two super bowls of the old AFL / NFL leagues before the 1070 merger . THEY EARNED IT !
Lionel Taylor should be in the HoF. Sadly the HoF is a joke. There are about 100 greats who should be in the HoF and never will be. As a Redskins fan, I can list 7 or 8 who should be enshrined.
Once again NFL HOF committee going to wait until Mr. Taylor is on his last life to try and get him inducted, let these living legends have the chance and ability to speak for themselves by honoring them correctly.
It’s a damn shame on the NFL that they have not inducted Mr. Taylor into the HoF!!! This is coming from a freaking Raider’s fan! This man needs to inducted !!!!
It seems like his playing career alone should put in him the Hall of Fame. And then, the significance of his coaching accomplishments alone should put him in the Hall of Fame. It's mind boggling he's not in.
@waddlesvlogs3829 It is the pro football hall of fame. Just the NFL says that but then look at the players and people going in. Do you see any CFL players , coaches, or gms outside of Warren Moon? Herschel Walker has an awesome 3 year career with USFL add his rushing number from that league he is in the top 10 last time I checked. Still not in HOF.
I love his last words. "I tried my best." We should all try our best. Thanks for this wonderful story and thanks for all you did, Mr. Taylor!
It's crazy how his story is just being told. ..glad to see the fans still remember him and showing him love
It'll always surprises me that Guys like him, who had to run through a brick wall to path the way for others to come, don't get any recognition like the HOF... c'mon NFL, show some Respect and put him in!🏈❤️
Wait, why isn't this guy in the Hall of Fame? He has the resume.
@The_Winters_SoldierThat should not be an excuse anymore. Many HOFers have played in horrible teams
Early AFL gets no respect

Come on Canton, get him in HOF!
It’s a disgrace that he’s not in the HOF! I urge everyone to write or call Canton to demand his induction, while he’s alive to attend.
Did you?
He and Theotis "Otis" Taylor...KCCHIEFS strong...😮😮😮...
Is it a disgrace?

Stars of the old AFL -- Lionel Taylor, Dave Grayson, Gino Cappelletti to name a few -- have been stiffed for decades by the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Yeah, Gino. All Time AFL in Scoring. It seems obvious, and now he's no longer with us.
'75 Lynn Swann broke Dallas back and broke my heart. Props to the Steelers. Old school football could beat the teams today. Timing and smash mouth.
I was ready for my rams to play the steelers that year. We got em in week 14. But Dallas was really hot and got us. Badly
Today's athletes are a lot bigger, faster and stronger than the athletes from 50 years ago. They would run circles around the old school players.

This is essentially an advertisement for him getting in next year. I hope he is able and healthy enough then, to attend
Ty for this NFL!! ✌️🇺🇲

Mecklenburg and Rod Smith aren't in The Hall?! that's criminal...
You can add Louis Wright to that list.
A real unsung hero for all fans of this game.
This guy and Jim Marshall both belong in the HOF
Agreed. Get these two into the HOF 🏈!!!
As a Lifelong Rams fan, I agree.
Another rams fan agrees that whole front 7....in the 60s...70s
And Roman Gabriel
and Ron McDole and Otis Taylor

Great Video Showing Us a Window into Coach Lionel Taylor and What He's Accomplished in His Life.
This back in the days before receivers had gloves which are like having glue traps on their hands.
Instead of gloves they used pine tar, stick-um, or whatever they could find that would make their hands tacky.
This man is the a fantasy receiver god in the 60s lol
As a Patriots fan, Lionel Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame. It's a real shame that he's not in.
time to make a fan vote for the HOF so this man will actually get in
Wow.. put this man in the HOF, before he passes. He earned it.
As a steelers fan, its always awesome to hear people apart of the history that you don't hear about alot!
What a great story and a great man.
Thanks for sharing. What a great guy.!!! Great player, great coach. Get him in Canton

They need to give me his props🌹🌹🌹
Great story,it needed to be said thx!!
Love to this. Also those uniforms were 🔥
Let’s get this right asap

No mention of the actual start to his career: 8 games with the Bears in 1959... as a LINEBACKER
Great video. I was aware of his playing career but not his long coaching career. Hopefully he will get into the Hall of Fame during his lifetime.
Respect. This was Awesome.

Excellent piece. Such a great football life
Its very strange how he got overlooked. When the official All Time AFL teams were voted for in 1970, he never made a first or second team selection.
How the HECK is Lionel not in the HOF as a player???
Love the old unis

Why is Lionel Taylor not in The HOF, I'll never know.

This man deserves to see himself be enshrined in the HOF.
Why were there cars down on the playing surface? Talk about a great parking spot! 4:38.
The Broncos should have given the Miami Heat the sculptor's number.
And NO sticky gloves like they all wear today.

They should have been offered to take him to see his bust, crazy.
I’ll sign a petition.
The MAN who changed football is named Mel Blount!!!
Tony dungee is a good man and I’ve never heard of Lionel Taylor I believe he must’ve been a good man too

How isn't he in the HOF?
AFL guy. NFL doesn't like putting AFL guys in the hall.
I believe it’s the pro football hof not the nfl hof so sounds like the nfl should have no control over it. (Not a shot at you just speaking my mind)
