  • Building a 16' x 24' cabin in Wasilla, Alaska. We built a 480 square foot cabin with a loft just outside of Wasilla, Alaska with the help of friends and family. This cabin build took us approximately one year to complete. Along the way we had many wildlife visitors including moose and an occasional bear which we never saw but only saw the evidence they left behind while visiting during the night. Want to see us build another cabin and VLOG the entire process? Subscribe and comment that you would like to see that and we will consider it if we get to 1,000 subscribers and have enough people interested. #Cabins #Alaska #BuildingACabin #Cottage #DIY #Construction #CabinLiving #CabinBuild #Wasilla #nature

Great job on the build it looks great! I am planning to build one the same size here in Michigan - a few questions:
    - Floor system - 6x6 posts and 2x10's? I was considering only doing 3x 6x6 posts to span the 24' but 2x12 boards instead of 2x10's
    - Roof Trusses - After you made the jig how long did it you to build all 16? trusses and what was their OC spacing?
Thanks for documenting your build and providing some help/inspiration for others!

Bears are real. I have a cabin and land. Worked my entire life to get it. Now it;s mine. Was sitting on the east side of the cabin drinking a cold one and listening to the radio music. And then like the snap of a finger, out popped a 400lb black bear. he was big. He looked me eyeball to eyeball the entire time, he never blinked. He walked back into the woods like so-what. But he came back...!!! He came back to check me out again. And this time he was all about closing distance. A dead giveaway to an attack, he was not afraid, he was curious. Curious is what gets you killed. Bears are extremely aggressive when curious. A fat bear is a calm bear. A curious bear is not a fat bear. Bears are not built like a dog or a human . A 300-400-500lb bear is like a pitbull a lion and a hog all in one animal. Quick as lighting. So fast it will memorize you. Like slow motion. You ever see a bear near or far, you best be pulling your pistol or loading your rifle and taking the safety off. If you can see him, they know about you too. Depending on what they have eaten lately is the gauge of an attack or not. Believe it or not. Peace.

Hey I have a few questions.
    How tall are your trusses?
    How tall are your walls?
I want to build a 16x26 one bed, 1 bath, with a loft above the bedroom and bathroom.
Just want an idea of how high to do trusses to make a comfortable loft.

@@maurytitaniumberg3708 this is exactly how people lived back in the day. You’re blessed not to have to live in something this small. Other people have no choice and do it just fine.
Take a trip into other countries and count your blessings.

The small loft was about 6’ tall in the middle and walls were 8’ tall to the point the rafters connected to them. I got the plans to easycabindesigns.com however the gentleman that did the designs has since passed away so if you had a question you would no longer be able to connect with him.

Easy Cabin Designs. The gentleman that designed them all has since passed away but his widow has now placed them on Amazon so you can buy them through there as well. Very easy to follow the blueprints.

Is that the foundation that the plans teach you how to build or did you design it yourself? Because it looked like in the plans there was a stem wall.

In the plans I purchased after talking with the designer who has since passed away that was what he had us do for our needs.
