There is some poor wording at the beginning of the video that I didn't catch. Usually mistakes like this don't happen at the beginning of a video because I reread that part so much. Hormone blockers have permanent effects but when I said infertility I was referring to the testosterone. What I meant to say was something more like, "Do you think it's ok to allow an 11 year old to make a decision like that? And then have him go infertile by giving him testosterone." That's a more accurate line and it doesn't negate the fact that hormone blockers do have long term effects. If you think you can just halt important chemicals during a developmental stage of your body and that has zero long term effects then I don't think you understand biology. Considering that vastly more women transition than men these days, loss of bone density is a huge deal for women. Especially as they get older. Seeing that 80% of kids grow out of gender dysphoria as they age and people who transition still have incredibly high suicide rates, permanently altering a child's bone density is child abuse.

@@maemayhem08 16 is still too young and I have read a lot of articles suggesting that kids were being given it at a younger age. Like 15 years old. If they aren't, in general, doing it right at the onset of puberty now, I imagine in a decade or so they will be doing it at that age unless they are stopped.

In my opinion people should understand that decisions like that should be left to the individual. However there should be strict regulations in place that prevent people from hurting themselves or their loved ones either physically or mentally. What I mean is that, changing ones gender is a huge deal that impacts an entire life so there should be much more consolidation and thought behind every step of that journey.
I hope that it is common knowledge that in a normal functioning human body the brain is fully developed around the age of 25. This is why I believe that the first two decades of a person's life should be all about self discovery.
Trying to answer questions like - Who am I, what do I want to be and what do I want for myself?
No one will ever be able to convince me that a 4, 10, 11, 15, 16 or even an 18 year old has their ideal image of themselves sorted out by then and that they can start seeking life altering changes to their bodies and minds whilst having so many other things on their backs that require equal attention. E.g. education, personal beliefs and relationships of any kind.
But I can see that I'm rumbling here.
I hope that what I said made any sens to yall. Argument and discussion is highly advised whether you agree ordisagree with me. :)

I am a woman who grew out of gender dysphoria. In high-school I identified as a transman. I hate the argument that "If they change their mind tomorrow, we still love them!" It is incredibly psychologically difficult to detransition. At that young age, it takes more maturity than most have. I found it nearly impossible to detransition socially because my identity being wrapped up in my transition meant that I was a fraud if I changed my mind. Even at 18 years old I couldn't admit to myself that I'd spent years very wrong about my own identity. Peer contagion and pressure is very real for teen girls. I have a child of my own now, another on the way, and I am incredibly thankful I never went on hormones.

I am a 19 year old female to male trans-person, and I am gonna put it this way. There are kids who are Trans because they suffer from Gender Dysphoria which I personally Sex Dysphoria, and kids who are just playing around and exploring their world. A Sex Dysphoric kid will stay consistent with a strong desire to live as the opposite sex, and a child who is not Sex dysphoric may just want to play around to explore their world but not want to be the opposite sex. I am totally fine with Sex Dysphoric kids who are Trans socially transitioning at whatever age, because not all trans people medically transition some do other forms of transition and that is why kids should wait until they are older. Once the kid turns 16+ they should be allowed to start puberty blockers and hrt if they need to with parental/guardian consent, long-term doctor monitoring, and a mental health diagnosis of Sex Dysphoria. Once they become 18+ they should be allowed to go for trans surgeries.
The fact that your son said he wanted to be a girl one time, and then he changed his mind a few days later shows you that he is not a Sex Dysphoric kid who is trans, he is just a little boy exploring the world around him which is okay too. I am glad your letting your son experiment. People need to understand the difference between a Sex Dysphoric Trans kid, and child who is just exploring and playing in the world around them. I always tell parents to take their kids to non affirmative mental health professionals, to do take the child through a formal diagnostic process, to see if the kid is Sex Dysphoric or not.

When we suspected my niece might be autistic, the therapist told my sister how they'd continue to work with her but they weren't going to diagnose her just yet because she was too young. The same thing can be said with kids who may have gender dysphoria. Children are naturally very curious and don't tend to think of gender roles. @@steffenjensen422See, I understand that you feel that. If all you get is shouted at because you wanted to present an argument or such then you surely won’t accept the argument you receive back. However, it is also about how you ask the question because if you sound sarcastic or outright rude then it sets a bad tone for your argument.
That being said, testosterone blockers don’t actually permanently do anything. Testosterone blockers or puberty blockers for that matter only temporarily “castrate” people. You don’t actually get any effects even until about 6 months, now how do I know this? I took puberty blockers and still do, that being said my sexual parts still somewhat function even though I didn’t want that at 15. So, after those 6 months you have a limited usage of your genitalia and once you go off the puberty blockers the functions work as they did after 6 months.
Now about the side effects, sure they do cause you to sometimes have a lower bone density and yeah that can be scary. However, like the article says… your endocrine specialist actively keeps tabs on your bone density and vitamin D, I personally had a bad issue with bones and needed to bring in more calcium. They also (in Belgium at least) take you off if you don’t actually work on it, for me I had to end up drinking 500ml of milk and eating cheese each day. The stunned growth, I mean if you think about it… what does the end of puberty do to you? You don’t grow anymore and therefore this is just what it says it does, it blocks the hormones that make you grow and end puberty temporarily.
The video claims that bullying doesn’t cause suicidal tendencies. I as someone who was and still is suicidal can tell you, I have perfect parents and I still feel the same. It’s not because your suicidal that you have a bad family, it’s just often another reason. My parents are perfectly fine and I have these issues. As for what he says, about the fact that gender dysphoria doesn’t cure suicidal feelings… well they can, I can say perfectly that I feel much better being on Oestrogen and being on hormone blockers, so much so I got complacent with my weight.
Anyway, this channel itself is inherently transphobic and it’s not because this one video, but there are other videos in which he states things that only come from the radical right. That alone makes it a really grey area, but this video just proves the point. Either way, sometimes gender affirmation can be the difference between life and death.

@@AlterFriends Thank you for taking the time to write out such a detailed comment. I hope you're doing fine and can overcome your hardships one day. I really appreciate you sharing your perspective.
As for this creator, I think he often raises good points, often gives genuinely helpful advice and I appreciate that he always tries to bring out at least one positive side of the person he's talking about, humanizing them and overcoming the polarisation somewhat.
That being said, I also think that some of his views are in misinformed, unhelpful or even what you might call phobic so yeah, no one is black or white I'd say.
As for the topic of puberty blockers, it is obvious to me that blocking the puberty of a trans person is an amazing possibility. If you can stop the misaligned puberty from taking place, that's obviously going to get much better medical outcomes for that person - and as you said, may in some cases be the straw that makes the difference between life and death.
I can see how one would be worried about overprescription though and share the worriesnto a degree. Most people aren't trans and misdiagnosing a kid could have somewhat severe consequences.
I however disagree completely with labeling this "child abuse", it's amazing medicine in one case and an unfortunate error in the other.
What we ought to do in my opinion is study transness more and try to develop accurate predictors, maybe even from infancy - there was research into brain structures that seemed promising but I haven't heard of that in years which is a shame.
Imagine if we could one day know whether a child is trans immediately after it's born and start treatment right away, we might even be able to save the kid from ever experiencing disphoria.
But until that time, I believe in a measured approach based on the best knowledge we have. This will mean that some kids get puberty blockers who later regret it and some kids are denied medicine that they need. This is inevitable and both sides should try to not make bold claims like child abuse because of mistakes happening even with the best intentions but work together on minimizing the mistakes.
I think comments like yours really help fostering understanding instead of animosity, so please keep doing that!
      Cheers

@@steffenjensen422 In my opinion, this creator does raise good points sometimes, which makes it difficult to see or hear whether he wants to sound insulting or not. In this video, it shows he balances it in his mind by saying that he supports older trans people but not children who identify as transgender. Now, yes this could be an opinion in which he genuinely means that but after hearing it so many times, it becomes the new “it’s just a joke bro.” In a sense at least. So like you said, he makes good points but others are harshly misinformed.
I do like the fact you understand that this is often a choice of life and death but like you also said, having a misdiagnosis in these cases could end up ruining someone. Temporarily at least, like I did mention unless they get onto hormones which would either be a grievous misguidance by the doctor or if they are 18+ then they don’t really have any damage, sure you could argue that 6 months of not having functional sexual reproductive parts is damage but they are kids, unless they are having sex at that age now… I’d really argue it isn’t causing any real damage just yet, maybe psychologically but that is a different case to argue.
Like you said, there ought to be another sort of identifier. Now a great suggestion would be to take a brain scan. See, in trans people that don’t identify to go along with a trend we often see that they have the brains of their identified gender. Now you may also ask, “but then there are 2 genders, right?” Well, no because recent studies have actually shown the brain is not binary and has all sorts of in between. (Could link if you’d like.) Therefore I think a reasonable thing to do is take a brain scan and then you know whether it’s gender questioning or sexuality and even in some cases, faking it.
I do enjoy having a regular discussion about this instead of the whole “uhhh transphobic 🤡😖” and just leaving it there. In that manner, you don’t get the view of the other person of why they have that view. Anyway, I hope my comment did alter your view in some way about the effects of puberty blockers and thank you for the well wishes.

Couldn't find any doctors who would do it, but if I had pretended to transition to be a man it would've been done right away and potentially even covered by taxes. Disgusting.

You can’t question anything without being called transphobic or a bigot, you need to question your identity because there’s people who mistake gender dysphoria and normal puberty effects. It’s so sad to see kids who don’t understand identity get hormones and not mental health treatment. After pubertity hits, hormones won't do much for us trans women. I've been through several facial surgeries and soon-to-be voice feminization surgery to reverse the effects pubertity give me. So I think it's good that more and more younger children get pubertity blockers early these days and don't have to go through the expensive shit I've been through. They didn't follow up with every child and the ones they didn't were marked as "growing out of it". A later 2013 study that studied kids who fit the clinical definition of gender dysphoria in the dsm 5 and found that it is a very good indicator. I wish more people would see that the man making the videos is just as biased as the people he critizieses, and twists studies in his favor to match his and his audiences viewpoints.

I was 16 around 10 years ago. I used to think I was supposed to be born a girl for a couple years because I didn't have a lot of the typical traits of boys. Online I would masquerade as a girl. I never transitioned or discussed it with anyone else, but after growing a bit older and getting out of an emotionally abusive household and became more independent it became very clear very soon that I was actually autistic and had low testosterone due to diet/exercise/other factors. I met a wonderful girl who loves every part of me, we've been together for 4.5 years now and are planning to buy a house soon and get married and have kids soon after. She also struggled with her gender identity and sexuality when she was younger as she often prefers hanging out with guys and can sometimes be a bit of a tomboy, but nowadays she let go of all the labels and stereotypes that were pushed on her in high school and since we've started dating her feminine side comes out more and more every year.
It makes me sad to think that if I had gone through those rough couple years back in high school today I would certainly have been pushed to transition and it would have ruined everything for me and I would not be living the wonderful life I have now. My advice to you is this: people who tell you who you are are dangerous. That goes for far more than gender/sexuality. If you spend all day talking to people that say you are stupid, you will become stupid. If they say all day you're ugly, you will become ugly. If they say all day you're a failure, you will become a failure. If you surround yourself with people who tell you you're perfect and amazing unfortunately you only become arrogant. And I truly believe that if they say you're trans or gay all day you will become it. My girlfriend used to think she was a lesbian because of the group she hung out with. Surround yourself with people who don't tell you who you are. Be with people who enjoy your social presence and not your social identity. You will be healthier for it.
