I agree, the smell of a horse is something special. All that grace and power....
Thanks for your comment! 🐴
As much as I am afraid of horses due to a childhood accident. I love to watch how beautiful and graceful they are. 👩🏻🦱
Oh I’m sorry to hear that! They are very majestic! Thanks for watching and commenting 🙂
They are beautiful!! Must be a lot of work to get their tails and manes to look so fancy & colorful. I actually prefer them looking natural. But there is no denying their beauty! Absolutely gorgeous!!!
So much work! Thanks for watching! 🐴
I’m happy to go along with you on this! Thank you for your videos!❤
You are so welcome! Please share, Apollo earned it! 🐴
Thank you for saying you love the smell of horses - i do too! Hardly anyone ever says it but it is a component on loving horses. Wow they were magnificent.
It really is! Thanks for watching and commenting. 🐴
Great episode!!
Aww thank you! Thanks for watching!
Wonder what Apollo,s old owner would think of him NOW .Their loss ,He,s got you !!!😃😃
We feel very blessed and have stayed in contact with the old owner. Very nice guy that was in a terrible car accident and fell on some very hard times. Thanks for watching! 🙂
My goodness! These horses are so huge and so beautiful!❤
Yes, so HUGE 😍 Please share, Apollo earned it! 🐴
....And amazing friends to work with.
Beautiful Shire horses
Yes they are! Thanks for your comment! 🐴
Hello Santiago,
I am a horse lover. Apolo introduced me, to Shire breed. I am absolutely in love of Shires!.
Thank you so much to share this beautiful video. Thanks.
From Spain.
I’m so glad. Shires are the best! Thanks for watching 🙏
I got to stand beside a Clydesdale once and I fell in love, horses smell good, they're smart and sweet, wise beyond our knowing... thank you for the "close-ups," so I can "smell" their beautiful muzzles. Really, a memory with a lovely aroma attached.
Clyde’s are so great! Thanks for watching 🙏
I am literally in tears. I cannot thank you enough for these videos. I am obsessed with draft horses, and the Shires are magnificent. They are so strong and beautiful it makes me cry. Thank you.
You are so welcome! I hope they are happy tears though! Please subscribe 🙏
What an enchanting video. The smell of horses? Yes, for me it has special association.
In London somewhere around 1948/9 my father, an Irish guardsman, arranged tickets for our family to attend the Trooping the Colour - the annual event where everyone is on parade for the presentation of the military colours to the monarch. We waited through a long ceremonial, and then the horses (hundreds?) stirred. I can summon that odour right now.
Wow! What an amazing experience. Thanks for sharing. 🙏
Santiago is a world-class artist who has not only saved a magnificent creature - Apollo - but is gracing the world with his paintings... including those of Shires. I am in awe of his talent and ability to capture the majesty of the Shire.
Wow what a nice compliment. Thank you 😊
I just think Apollo is the absolute coolest!👍🏻🐴🫶
Me too! 😎 Thanks for watching 🙏
Thank you so much for producing this tremendous footage of the awesome Shire Horse. How on earth do you pick a winner from such an awesome lineup? Some are frisky, some are calm and composed, all of them are simply magnificent!!
They are all winners in my eyes! 😍 Thanks for watching! 🐴
So beautiful! I love your heartfelt comments. Really uplifting - and feel good watch.
Absolutely stunning beautiful horses, I can only imagine Santiago what it’s like riding Apollo, so much power, tfs x Julie 🇬🇧
It’s an experience for sure! Cheers 😊
The clarity and quality of your footage is breathtaking…excepting that wonderful horse smell. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful videos of the show, Santiago. 🙏💜
Glad you enjoyed it Diane my faithful watcher and commenter. 🙏
SAVE THE SHIRE HORSE !!! Thank you so much! ❤🙏l👍
Yes!! Thanks for watching and commenting. I hope you’ll subscribe! Greetings from me and Apollo 🐴
Number 85!!!! Big Guy!! Gorgeous❤
So big! Thanks for your comment! 🐴
Aren't they just MAGNIFICANT !! WOW!
They are all so beautiful. It would be very hard to pick a favorite.
Nearly impossible! They are all amazing!
Santiago, love seeing the adolescence come through. Do the groomers use baby oil on their coats to get that shine? 🥰
No, it’s just natural oils that are released when they brush their coat. Please share, Apollo earned it! 🐴
I have to say that I wouldn't want to put all of those ribbons and bows on a Stallion! IMHO. 😍
The wonderful smell of horses is an afrodesiac
Agreed! At least for us horse lovers!
🐎❤😳Wow so many giant Shires all in one place --- magnificent.
Thank you and more videos of Shire please. 😀
I kept hoping the 4 year old with the front left black sock would win, you gotta let us know. 😍
There was so much going on all at once that I wasn’t always able to capture who won each class. They were all winners in my book. Thanks for watching 🙏
No. 26 shire had the thickest neck compared to the other shires. The 3-year-old previous stallion winner is a head-turner! Very handsome all of them. This is a magnificent horse lineage. At 2,000 lb. weight, they were all very muscular with excellent conformation and long feathers. Thank you for the upload!
Wow love this observant comment! Thanks for watching! 🙏
@@apollotheshire It's a great breed of equine, its size second to none. Grew up with horses and love their perfect beauty. Aren't the really thick-necked ones up in Greenland and Iceland??
I’m not sure about that…
I'm in Heaven just looking at all these beautiful majestic Shires!!!
Thank you for making this video❤
Majestic creatures! Awesome 🥰
They are! Thanks for watching and commenting 🙂
Soo powerful and graceful, these shires are drop dead gorgeous and I applaud the handlers for being so patient with the stallions 😁
They were so incredibly patient! Thanks for watching 🙏
ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS 😍 ❤️ 💖 💕
Thank you so much!!
Absolutely breathtaking
I know right??!! Please share, Apollo earned it! 🐴
These horses are absolutely beautiful amazing and a shrimp a have absolutely fantastic
Yes they are! Thanks for watching and commenting 🙂
Wow what beauty’s Appolo is stunning and he is a real credit to you it must be very difficult to handle a 2000 lb youngster
It would be great if people kept the tails all natural
It was challenging for the handlers for sure! Thanks for watching. Please share and subscribe! 🙏
The three year old was a gorgeous animal.
Will you be coming over for the 2023 show? 🇬🇧
Not this year, I’ll be attending the big shire show here in the states. 🐴 Have you been?
@@apollotheshire No, but you have inspired me to go this year. Thanks!
Please send pics and videos! I’m only a little jealous!
@@apollotheshire Unfortunately, a family event coincided with this year’s dates. I will have to go in 2024 instead. 🥺
God, I'm so envious.
Gosh! Beautiful! I sure miss my AUnt's grey Shire team she had. Such presence of all the competitors! thank you for sharing!!
You are so welcome! They really change your life! Thanks for watching and commenting 🙂
So beautiful!!! I would love to own one of these amazing horses!!!
They are the best in my opinion. Thanks for watching! I hope you’ll a subscribe! Greetings from me and Apollo 🙂
Stunning, absolutely stunning! 🤩
Love your voiceovers ❤
Thank you! You are too nice! Thanks for watching 🙏
Gorgeous horses
I think so too! Thanks for watching and commenting 🙂
Magnificent breed.
Please explain the function and purpose of the check rein on the surcingle.
There was about 150 stallions there that day and each one weighs 2k lbs+ so it’s just to help control them so they don’t get too wild. Thanks for watching. Greetings from me and Apollo🙂
Magnificent! Thank you.
Beautiful majestic horse. Thanks for showing your love of these superb animals.
Thank you too!
wow they are beautiful
I agree! 😍🤩
These are beautiful animals. Stately. I agree about keeping tails more natural. They need them to deal with flies
Thanks for watching! Please share and subscribe! 🙏
At least the tails are not docked. The long hair can grow back, but it is a shame they don't have a full tail, especially in the summer.
Marvelous animals! Thank you for sharing.
My pleasure! Thanks for your comment! 🐴
Astonishing and mesmerizing beauty! Interesting comment about how Shires smell differently to you. I wonder if that is due in part to their sheer body mass. How about other draft breeds? Thank you so much for these great videos from the show. I have attended the Draft Horse Expo in Nevada City, CA, and had to be dragged away!
Wow that would be awesome! I’d love to see that! I do feel like the smell thing is shire specific. Thanks for watching and commenting 🙂
I'm only about 156cm tall, so just about any horse is huge compared to me. Beautiful creatures😃
Amazing horse
Thank you! Please share and subscribe! 🙏
@@apollotheshire have just subscribed to your amazing channel
Thanks Mark!
My shire traces back to the year 1760 !
you and I are two peas in a pod. Wish I could have gone with you
They are such a proud & beautiful breed ❣️
( Do a DNA for ancestry on Apollo )
The only other smell that comes close is a river. God's blessings.
Очень очень красивая
The horses look if they have white boots on
Totally!
Why do they keep the Shires tail short? Is it traditional? Greetings from Kentucky!
Mostly just to keep it out of the way of the way for practicality at a show like this. It’s a different style than we are used to in the states to shave them but they don’t really dock tails in the UK like they do her. Thanks for watching! 🙂
What the difference between Shires and Clydesdales? Amazing looking Shires!
Well they are both drafts but a different breed. Shires are from England and are generally bigger, more muscular, and broader in the shoulders. Clydesdale are a newer breed and were originally crossbred with shires. They are both gentle giants and wonderful horses!
@@apollotheshire Thank-You for your reply! After studying the Shires a bit I have found the Shires have a way bigger neck and a shorter back correct? I love the looks of a Shire, never seen one in person. I used to have a number of Clydes and harness trained a lot of young yearling Clydes. Not show material but still very nice purebred papered Clydes. I had other Draft horses as well but by far preferred the Clydes! Would love to see a hitch of Shires one day! So you say the Shires have been around longer then Clydes?
I have a video from an event with teams of shires if you want to check it out. ua-cam.com/video/SRd2QBc1q6U/v-deo.html
Also if you check out my playlists I have lots of videos from the National shire horse show in England.

They would look even bettere if their tails werent cut this ridiculously short :(
That’s a throwback to when shires were working horses, they couldn’t have long tails getting caught up in the traces. I do agree it’s outdated now & they would look much nicer with their tails full length & they’d be able to keep the flies off.
They actually shave their tails and tie their long tail hair up just for the show. It’s a totally different style then what we are used to in the states but it is functional for the show, without docking their tales. Thanks for watching and commenting 🙂
I just wish America had all the assortments of Pig Oils England has to reduce the risk of lice and mite infestations on our Shire horses!
The horses would look and feel much better if their tails weren't docked! This not only detracts from their beauty, but also means they can't flick away the flies. They can be plaited and turned up to make them shorter when driving. I thought docking was illegal in Britain?
They aren’t docked, it’s illegal to dock tails in the UK. They are other trimmed or braided.
However, my shire horse Apollo has a huge long full tail and I have to admit, it’s the worst flyswatter of all time. It does 0% to dissuade flys to land on him.
Why is tail docking still a thing?
It’s not in the UK… but in the US it is still done. 🤷🏻♂️ thanks for commenting!
Stunning horses, but not loving the docked tails…
Well, that’s good since not a single one is docked. It’s illegal in England, only shaved or braided.
