19.2 hands and still growing! That bay was truly a warhorse in type. I love the slight dappling and the tawny underbelly. Thanks so much, Santiago, for documenting this event, especially for those of us who may never travel to the show ourselves. Give Apollo a scratch for me. I adore the big boy. 🙏🏻💜
The slow motion was spectacular! What a joy to watch these magnificent giants gliding in front of you. Thank you, Santiago for a great day at the Horse Show...couldn't help but smile throughout the entire video.
Not crazy for you to travel and attend something like this. I'll guarantee that you learned a lot and gained so much by SEEING all of the horses.. considering your skill-set. It will certainly spur you to be an even better owner. Your commitment to Apollo is inspiring.
@@apollotheshire I am EXTREMELY impressed by all of your artwork. As I said previously, you ARE the Caravaggio of the Shire, and I am ALWAYS ready to see one of your Shire paintings in the process of completion. Your ability to both see and execute what you do -- regarding ALL subject matter -- proves that your skills are that of a true craftsman. And I say this in comparison to the likes of Reubens, Rembrandt, Gainsborough, Turner, Bricher, Winslow Homer, and even the tonality of George Innes... plus NC Wyeth (having myself grown-up close to the Brandywine area... in Valley Forge). There is not one work of yours that is less than masterful. And if I had the funds of Warren Buffett, I would certainly be a benefactor and commission many of your works. Even your railroad compositions are highly commanding... standing TALL on their very own.
I went to the National Shire Horse Show this year and it was amazing. I love Shires and this was probably the best show I've ever been to. I'm so glad you were able to travel so far to experience it.
Thanks for sharing another part of your day at the National Shire Horse show. The horses are gorgeous. I rewatched your Apollo story video again the other day - its so interesting to watch his transformation.
Oh thank you for this post, and for not adding music. Oh where is the Queen? She was synonymous with horses! I had quite forgotten just how windy England can be, and those great scudding cloudbanks. I really enjoyed the slo-mo shots because it enabled one to appreciate how truly elegant those horses are, and how powerful. The crunch of hoofs set down on turf in rhythmic stride is all part of “being present”. Thank you for sharing this beautiful event with us.
Anne McCafferty wrote a young adults book called Black Horses for the King. It’s the story of how King Arthur introduced large horses to England to fight against the Saxons with along with how horseshoes were developed in Roman times. I can’t help but think of that book while watching these beauties cantering. I recommend everyone who loves horses (even adults ) to read it. Well worth the time.
Such gorgeous horses! Thanks for the opportunity to see so many gorgeous Shire horses!! I just have one question. as I don't own a horse I have to ask, why do you shave Apollo? Again, thanks for gifting us this beautiful show!! AND Apollo!
Thanks for your question! I shave Apollo sometimes in the winter to help him regulate his body temp. Trimming horses helps them dry more quickly, which minimizes the risk of sickness/problems after sweating in low temperatures. Thanks for watching! 🐴
Docking has been illegal in the UK since 1949. What is done here is the hair of the tails is either shaved off or cut short and/or also tied up and decorated to protect from risks of damage in harness, and it preserves the traditional look of a draft without harm to the horse. One of the earlier videos in this series shows a woman doing the braiding and her technique is amazing.
As a brit who lives in the east of England the shows are def a great day/weekend out.
Thank you for NOT putting music over the top.
Blessings
Greetings from me and Apollo 🐴

@@apollotheshire Thanks so much for your reply. Watching the grand parade now. Wonderful, just wonderful!❤
I like u thought the big bay was awesome to. Sad he didn't win.
He is beautiful and will surely win in the future, temperament has a factor and the other horse was better on the day
I love shire !
I take it the light bay colour was 19.2 hands and still a young male horse very impressive
