How did you weigh down your steps?
I used zipties
How do you get your pool water spinning counterclockwise so fast?
@@steven.h0629 I hope I am explaining this correctly, I have the jet coming from the pump pointed up high and to the right to make the swirl. I had to buy a new adjustable nozzle. The original one just was straight. I hope this helps.
@@ScottBurnette Nice.. I didn't realize a directional nozzle was an option.. that is exactly what I need too thanks!!
Scott: The directions to our above ground pool steps said to add fine gravel. Umm, I guess that is another way of calling it 'sand'.
🤣🤣
My husband was smart enough to know that is a terrible idea, and he is smart enough he watched your video.
YOU HAVE MADE LIFE MUCH EASIER for this Ohio couple.
Using the zip ties will allow the weghts to be removed, making it easier to remove the steps in our cold winters.
I can't imagine muscling out those steps with wet sand in them, up over the rail.
You truly have made life much easier for us.
Thank you, and best of luck with your channel. You made us laugh.

Great idea but why not just use caps on both ends of the pipe after the concrete sets up? Once concrete is set the clean out caps is unnecessary.
funny story, I was going to do that but the Home Depot didn’t have enough caps.
Great job and looks neat and professional,
Fantastic idea works Great Thank You
Smart about to try this now
If you put it inside the Step you could never see the work good idea.
I actually use three granite blocks and zip tie them inside the steps because I have platforms underneath my steps And you do not see anything
My parents has a ladder and ❤
Most of those require you to put sand or pea gravel inside the hollow sections
Looks good,My steps i had to fill with Pool Sand
Did one myself came out pretty good will add 2 more
Is it safe to put the ladder on the pool floor. Does it damage the liner
I have a vinyl mat under it .
Do you know how heavy each tube is? I did something similar with only 2”pipe but need more ballast. So looking at 3-4” pipe.
I used a 60 lb bag of concrete with 4 tubes so I would say close to 15lbs each.
I would’ve totally done this except my pool ladders are covered meaning I don’t have any gaps to run the cables ties through. Darn it.
I would drill some holes then. but that is just me.
Is there a particular reason I’m not seeing for not just adding water to the sakrete and allowing it to harden inside the pipe? Just curious. Great idea. thanks
You can add water and harden it. The example I saw they just kept it dry. If you try it hope it works for you. Working great for me so far .
@@ScottBurnette Great News. I was using little lead weights and they were never enough. Thanks!
@@ScottBurnette Wouldn't hardened concrete weigh much more than dry? That way you can use less pipe or make them shorter or smaller diameter. In your case why not just use sand?
@@Jeff-S maybe, this is just one way of doing it.
This was not what I was looking for but it was exactly what I needed. To solve my issue. Thank you sir! Great video!
just bought these steps and had concerns they would float saw your video awesome the only thing different I did was I ran 1-in PVC across and laid the 3-in PVC on top of that work great
Great to hear!
Thanks for sharing! Great idea. How are the tubes holding up now?
Doing great. Thanks for the comment .
Had the same issue last year using sand bags. Great idea!! I'm doing this, thx
Great idea. How difficult is it to get the steps out of the pool at end of season? Do you cut the ties and pull the weights separately or can you remove the steps all together?
I'll be jumping in a cutting the zip ties. Shouldn't be too difficult that way. Thanks for the comment.
We will try this
Did you wet the cement or leave it dry?
Left it dry.
Let’s get another update on the hybrid poplers
As of 4/15 they have just started putting on leaves. I’ll report back in a week or so.
Mine take up water in the rails and the sand bags I took out end up full of water and moldy. I am thinking with the mat and screwing it to the deck may be enough. I know if water got in the sand my son in law did a crap job of screwing the caps on the sand bags. Point being it was HELL getting the bags out for a good vacuum and for the winter so mine are NOT going back in. I will take a little bounce 😂 and a mat! I am gonna drill holes at the highest point to let trapped air out and see if water fills it enough to hold it down minimal bounce
Should have attached it on the inside to hide the tubes under the steps.
Where did you purchase the ladder
Amazon. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008PJV8TK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I'm considering doing this, but I have two questions for you. How have they held up after using the ladder? And why do the threaded opening rather than sealing both ends completely? Hope to hear from you!
They are doing a great job. Between me and my dog running up and down bouncing on them , they haven’t moved or loosened up. My dog weighs 100, I weigh 250. I did use some strong zip ties. I’ll answer a couple of questions I have had. The Home Depot is the only store close and they didn’t have enough glue caps. I would have loved to had enough. 2nd question is why on the out, algae is bad in my area and if I added them inside the algae would have had a place to run wild. Overall been a good project. If your supplier has enough caps, get them. Hope it Works for you .
@@ScottBurnette awesome! I'm definitely trying that out! Thanks for the info!
Why did you use dry concrete only? Why not wet and let it set up
I've used same method on older steps, worked great. These new steps have been a pain. I am going to have to pull them back out and add more weight. Thanks.
We fixed it your way….. but still have an algae problem behind the steps… so annoyed!!!!
I also am having algae issues this year but I don't think it's the PVC pipes. I think there is an engineering or design flaw with these steps. When I take them out this year I am going to drill a series of holes to allow more water flow. I may even coat them with a anti fungal coating...not sure. I'll video this. Thanks for the comment.
@@ScottBurnette Do you know of an anti fungal product that could be used?
@@bigtimereacts I use an algaecide from homedepot occasionally and I take my water hose with a misspelling and wash back there. That has kept me pretty clean.

If your are still viewing these comments, would you be so kind in telling me more detailed info on how you attached the weights. Thanks. It was an informative video.
Yes I am. I used three heavy zip ties on each weight to the side of the steps.works really well.
Add a small piece of copper to your skimmer. It should keep the algae down to a minimum.
Nice! I’ll do that now
Scott, just putting steps like these together. Mine have open ends for putting sand in all the vertical parts of the structure. Not sure I want to do this. Are yours the same? Used bricks on my last set and they worked.
I don’t have places for sand, tried the sand anchors last year and it didn’t work. So far this is working
why did you keep the sakrete dry instead of mixing it with water first?
Just a choice I made. You can mix it with water.
I've got some questions. Why not just put end caps on both sides for ease and a cleaner look? Also dry cement? Why not use sand? Or wet cement so they weight more for smaller or less pipes? Also why not attach the on the inside so they are less obtrusive?
Homedepot didn't have enough caps for my project and it was going to be a while.
why not fill them with sand or harden the concrete in the tube? looks like a great idea to stop my stairs from floating away.
Sand will grow mold if any water penetrates. The concrete seems to be fine.
That's a great idea i am about to pu my big latter down I'll do this great thanks
You’re welcome!
Very good idea
Thank you
Keep posting what you enjoy.
That was awesome nice and clean…a toss to you
Appreciate the video, I 'm doing the exact same thing!
Let me know how it goes
Just got the steps having the same problem great idea
My wife bought the steps used but in brand new condition off-line I got more invested in weighing it down then I paid for the steps everything is sky high
Looks good to me.
Thanks!
Your idea works perfectly with my new Confer pool steps. Found 3in PVC in 2' sections at Home Depot. Made only 2 which was enough to weigh down steps. Attached with big Zip ties as you did , so they can be easy to remove before taking steps out at the end of the season. Only change to your method was I filled the tubes with wet cement. I'm a bit paranoid about dry cement getting into the pool if tubes open somehow. Otherwise your idea was fantastic and easy to do. Thanks. , you solved my problem.
