How far is it from the bottom of your pool to the top of your deck? I'm wanting to know of these would work. I have a 52" pool, plus an additional 7 inches because we covered the top rail. So about 59"
What exactly did you buy for the bottom like a blue yoga mat or what is it
I bought it at the pool store. Hope this helps. You can also find them on Amazon. Here is a link I think this would work make sure it is the size you need amzn.to/3NodRPL
I watched your sewer pipe weights first... I was worried about the ziplock sand bags... What about those flimsy plastic seems. Did you end up keeping with the 2x4 bases you mounted? ... I also hg ad my wood deck built UNDER the plastic top border of pool.
Yes I still have it mounted to 2x4s on my deck. Thanks for watching
After using these steps for the past 10 years I have one recommendation. Instead of using the bags with sand, go to Litehouse pools and buy two sand block weights. They seem to be easier to work with and last longer
I built my own weights, thanks for watching
We just had someone make blocks for our ladder supports but they cut the ends of the supports to align with the blocks. Any ideas how we can finish the plastic off. It currently has 3 open holes and a bit of a rough edge. TIA Jim!!
I would have cut it round and used a piece of sand paper to take off the rough edges.
@@DIYJIM that seems simple enough! Thanks!
This helped out tremendously, especially clamps. I tried C clamps at first, then I seen your video. Thanks
Your welcome
Did you put the sand bags side by side or on top of each other?
Really don’t think it matters. I ended up making my own weights.
How do you remove the ladder when you close your pool?
Me and my boy pull it up and my other boy gets the weight out. Or my boy jumps in the cold water and gets the weights out. Thanks for watching
THANK YOU for the zip tie idea to keep the mat on the ladder!!!!!!!! Ugh sooooo smart!!! I had to replace my liner twice because the ladder kept putting holes in the pool, last year i used bungie cords, but, the zip tie is neater and brilliant!!!!
Glad I could help, have a good summer swimming
We just had our first pool installed a few days ago. Ive been running blind so far. You are correct. The instructions that come with these steps are a joke. Thank the Lord I found you. You are not crazy. This video is very very helpful. Thank you for making it. We will be referring back to it again. Now im off to find a video as informative as this on how to use our sand filter and all its functions. 🤣🤦♀️ I feel like I'm in school again. Happy swimming 🏊♀️ 🥽
I have a few more videos that might help. ua-cam.com/play/PLZEGsnRsdHN6YUm1RnqlWvtj6ZeQTa1IG.html
@@DIYJIM awesome! Thanks again for sharing. 😎
What kind of washers did you use under the 2x4 blocks to raise them up? Don't know what those thick washers are called. Looking for them on Home Depot site and can't find them.
Galvanized washer not sure what size
Your video saved the day! I tried initially to use the mallet according to instructions with my sister's help. It was a frustrating comedy. We then found your video. I ordered the clamps and was able to assemble the steps by myself today. Attaching the mat with zip ties is added good advice. Thank you!!!
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching
Update please, I assume you only used them one season so far. How are they holding up.
So far so good, only one season your correct
I am highly experienced in building things and the clamp was the best idea I have seen instead of the mallet to put the sides together they were so aggravating and I got to looking at UA-cam videos and saw yours and I went and bought two clamps and this thing went together like magic thank you
Glad I could help thanks for watching
Yes the clamp was genius. I was about to launch that thing over the fence trying to get it together with a mallet.
Great video. You answered a few questions about the cross braces.
The rubber met attached to the bottom of the steps will help a lot.
Yours has railings on both sides. Ours only had 1 railing. I hope I can order another rail and pipe set-up. If I can I will need to grill holes in the steps for the polls to go through.
Again... Thanks for taking the time to make this video.
Your welcome thanks for watching
I have these steps but I received diff sandbags along with the ones like yours. I used the ones the pool company gave me…not the ones like yours because they ripped. When I put them on the ladder it still floats. Do you have any suggestions?
I have two sand bags and it is screwed to my pool deck. Can you buy another sand bag?
Thank you for the video. Liked the hand clamp tip. Would have saved my dad and I from pounding the sides together. For the sandbags, what bags did you buy? Did the sand come out at any time during the season? How did you get your bags of sand to stay in place? Any links and advice for materials you would suggest?
The sand bags came with the steps. They did stay in place. I don’t think the sand came out. I might try to do something different this year. Make something to weigh down. I don’t think those sandbags are going to last.
@@DIYJIM Did you have any issues with the drop steps banging up against the wall of the pool after bracing it on the deck?
@@fpvj83 I never had any problems with that and I had kids use them.
How sturdy are the handrails, especially since they don't attach to the deck? Have you figured out a different weight system, other than sand bags? I definitely like the zip tie tip! Thanks!
I would say the hand rails are okay. I plan on making a new system to weigh it down with some four-inch PVC pipe and some concrete. I’m going to make a video of it.
Thank you for this video we put together the main access 7200 steps tonight and the directions that they gave us were horrible... We finally got it all together but will get sandbags and a pool mat like you did..
Glad it helped
I have been "rigging" this same pool stair system for 6 summers now, and am so highly amused by your creativity 😂. I made the pvc weights, and used heavy duty zip ties to secure them vertically to the inner sides of the stairs. Your liner protector zip tied to the bottom is genius! I used blue tape designed for boats and wrapped it around the bottom to make it "padded" (this did not hold up very well, looks sloppy) so I will be trying your idea! For securing the handrails to the deck, I got rid of the screw-in tabs altogether and secured it with a pvc system that fit the diameter of the handrail and secured it from under the deck (hard to explain without a photo) .. but mostly I really enjoyed watching you go under water with goggles to secure the weights ... it made me feel so understood 😂... I sent to my neighbor, who has been my sidekick throughout the years trying to figure out how to make this darn thing work well. Haha . Above ground pools need a better step ladder market!!!
Thanks Kati for watching hope you have a good summer in your pool. I’m making another video of my weights.
They sent me the instructions for a different ladder and I thought I was crazy but after watching this video Im validated lol
Crazy, I’m glad I could help you
I was skeptical about buying this until I saw your video. Great job! I’ll definitely be referring to it.
Hope it helps have a good summer
Thank you so much for this video! These are the type of steps I might be purchasing. Are the steps hard to remove from the pool when you close it?
not to bad after you get the sand bags out
What kind of goggles are those???
Old ones with no strap lol, thanks for watching
@DIY JIM Hahaha my kids thought those were something new and innovative. Smh!
@@prettygirl0160 I used them when I was probably 13-14 years old, not sure how I still have them. They were really good when they were new. Made out of real glass. lol
thanks, put my steps together with you, love the zip tie idea, doing it.
thanks for watching
I just learned a good lesson today. Be very careful with the ziplock bags! When I was dropping them into the pool, my finger went through the bottom. To keep the sand coming out, I turned it upside down. As soon as it got out of the water the ziplock opened. Now I have about 25 lbs of sand in the bottom of my pool.
That sucks, hope the rest of your summer swimming goes good.
When I added my sand into the Ziploc sandbags that came with the pool. I’d left my sand in the regional bag also.
Hello. I wanted to ask you a question about these steps if you have the time to answer. We have an above ground pool and from winter till spring we put up a dome cover for our pool to keep the pollen out. The hand rails of our latter interfere with the closure of the dome. Do you know if the hand rails of this latter can be easily removed? That way while we have the dome up we could
leave the latter in the pool and just take off the hand rails. If you can, please let me know. Thanks.
I never took them off but they should come off easy after you take the 8 screws out. I should show them in the video
@@DIYJIM Thank you for the info. I ordered them. Hopefully they will work out for us.
Was up dad!!!
What’s up spencer
Just bought a set I didn't see in directions where to put the 8 screws . Thanks for the info!
Glad I could help have a good summer swimming
Why would you post this if it’s already put together !
because I was not going to make a video and I thought that I could give some good tips for install. sorry I tried to help you. You don't have to watch
Thanks for the clamp tip! Really helped
Welcome
Would you do the same procedures for salt pool?
I think so
Use cement blocks much easier to hold it down
I plan on making my own weight out of concrete. Thanks for watching hope your summer is going good
I didn’t get a place to put a lite on my step?? I would have never gotten the brace in the back of it until you said to pull the whole thing inward to snap it down. I had to drill holes, my rails didn’t have holes so they had to be drilled first. Thanks for the tips and screw placement boss. Video kicked ass
Glad I could help thanks for watching
what size zip lock bags for sand
The zip lock bags came with my steps not sure what size they were but most pool stores will sell them. Hope this helps thanks for watching
Thanks for the video! Also what is the size of your pool?
we have a 24' pool 4 ft deep. Did you put some steps together?
I mean you did make everything harder lol
Thanks for watching
What kind and size blue mat did you get?
I bought it at the local pool store, 34x25 inches. I think it was bigger when I bought it and I cut it to size.
Great video!! Thanks!!
You're welcome!
why not use sand or mix up the concrete and let it harden?
I just got done making a video on what you are talking about should be on UA-cam on Friday at 6:30 pm east coast. I made a little different it’s going to work great. Thanks for watching
@@DIYJIM
Thank you for this video. We have realized that after making these weights that we spent lots of money battling algae from the sand bags weights in plastic container. Just wanted to pass that on.
I have definitely not had any problems. This year has actually been very easy. Hope you get it figured out
What is the height of the top step from the ground? I have a 42" pool and I'm wondering if this will work.
About 45” hope this helps
Thank you.
Your welcome
Thanks buddy
Your welcome Sean
Thank you so much
Glad I could help
Is your pool 54” and do those anchoring arms go up pretty high . My deck is about 7” above the pool and over the rail
I have a 48" pool, the anchoring arms will slide up all the way to the top. Thanks for watching
So from your 48” mark how many inches will those slide up mine is 54 . I need something that can anchor 62-64”
you better hope and pray those plastic bags don't rip or tear, because you'll have one hell of a mess and problem
You got that right, not worried they are thick.
